Blog: Diono Radian RXT Review

One thing about car seats, that you don’t realize this until your baby starts getting a bit bigger, is that they are often pretty bulky. It can make it hard to get your child in and out without bonking their head or finding some other way to incite tears, and quite frankly, the world is full of enough potential dangers without having your dad crank your head off the car door frame whenever we go somewhere.

I’ve found the Radian RXT significantly cuts down on the number of bumps on my girl’s noggin. It’s sleek and has a very slim profile making it easy to load in babies and toddlers alike. It’s solid as well, and with a steel frame, it is certainly not light, but it is also certainly not going anywhere once you get it installed. I have not had any other car seat that buckles in as solidly as this one, between the easy fasten clips and the weight of it, it’s pretty easy to get a nice snug fit, and the tether on the back gives another level of safety.

My baby is a big fan of the cup holder. In case this will make or break it for you, it can hold many stuffies (Dino, bunny, sheepie, and lizard to name a few) in addition to most sizes of sippy cups and water bottles. She was very concerned the other day frantically saying “my breaked it!” when she accidentally popped it off and thought her wonderful cupholder was broken. It took much consoling and discussion from the front seat to convince her that we could fix it at our next stop. With winter now upon us, we have found an important purchase to keep our SUV’s upholstery clean has been a seat guard that keeps a barrier from the salt and dirt. With our girl till rear facing, but with long legs, the bottoms of her boots kick against the back of the seat constantly. As I removed the car seat we had in, and installed the Radian RXT I realized just how much grossness makes its way under the car seat, and not just salt and dirt from boots. It was like its own tiny micro-climate under there, mostly made up of Cheerios and raisins, and the costume jewelry ring we thought she had lost as well. Luckily with the seat guard I was able to simple dump it out and wipe it down to get things respectable again.

The Diono car seats have by far been my favourite of all the car seats we have tried, and they give me the most peace of mind. After installing it, I really had no concerns. I’m confident I installed it correctly, it feels so solid and was really simple compared to others from start to finish.

We’re a busy family that’s always on the go, so it’s nice to feel that our girl is safe and secure as we travel from place to place. The toddler years are full of worry, let’s face it, parenting is full of worry, so one less thing to worry about is good in my books.
