Blog: Dream Big Little Guy: Brica Fold ‘N Go Travel Bassinet Review

I was at the doctors the other day getting Ethan’s weight check done and my husband and I we are fumbling around the doctor’s office trying to get Ethan undressed and ready for his check-up. We both had blood shot eyes from the lack of sleep and while my doctor is talking to me I’m just sitting there wondering if she’s laughing inside that we look like the complete cliché of new parents… she must see this all the time.

She praises my husband and me for how well we are doing raising him so far, and I feel great hearing this. As we drive home I start thinking about what happens as he grows and gets older: Am I going to be able to keep doing a great job? Will I be able to keep him safe from everything negative in the world? Right now he is so small and I am able to keep him safe and sheltered in my arms and how I wish it could always be this way. I start thinking about all the things that could hurt him, physically and emotionally; he is going to scrape his knee, he might not get that job, and that girl could break his heart.

As I hold him in my arms all I want to do is keep him here with me, safe from everything, but I know can’t. I realize that all I can do is hope that I raise a boy who knows how much he is loved, help shape a strong moral character in him, encourage him to chase his dreams, challenge his fears, and hope that is enough to help him navigate the world outside my arms. I will always remind him that he will be supported on any journey he decides to take in life, but I can make darn sure that he doesn’t do it on an empty stomach and has lunch before he goes!

In the meantime while he is still a newborn he needs me to make the best decisions I can for him. I can control the amount of Brica Fold N Go Travel Bassinetsafety he experiences. Where your baby sleeps is important and you want it to be secure and safe. I got my hands on the Brica Fold ‘N Go Travel Bassinet. At first glance when I opened up the bassinet, I thought this looks very light and flimsy. I could not picture Ethan sleeping in here, I had visions of the whole thing capsizing and folding up on him. Although I was hesitant I gave it a try.

I definitely was wrong; this bassinet has been a great addition to my growing collection of baby needs. When I placed Ethan inside, I actually loved how light the material was, there is netting all around the sides making it very breathable. The rods that hold the bassinet up advertise that they create a strong locking frame, and I agree they are very study, and it snaps tightly once you have it popped up, so I did not have any worries about it collapsing on Ethan.

I loved how easy it was to put together. I have subjected my husband to enough time-consuming baby items that needed assembly. This one I was able to put together myself in a few seconds. There is essentially no assembly required for this product: Each side has a button you push and the bassinet pops open like a tent, this would be a great product to take on-the-go for visiting family and friends and travelling on vacation. Pretty much you always have a ready to go bed or even play mat; it’s somewhere safe to keep baby while he is awake as well.

The mattress is not too hard, but since you are keeping it on the ground anyways it will create a sturdier base. Along with being breathable, I also like how the sides are all netted so I can see Ethan when I am sitting on the couch. The netting also makes me not have to worry about his face suffocating against the wall.

To fold it up you simply just push the buttons and the whole thing will collapse inwards. Right now I keep mine at my parents’ house since I am there so much. It’s perfect because I do not need to worry or think about where I am going to keep Ethan for his nap times.  If you prefer to have your baby close to keep an eye on like myself, the good thing is that the bassinet is so lightweight that I have dragged the bassinet while Ethan was sleeping (he must have been dreaming hard because he didn’t even flinch!) to move around the house with me. I only wish it was bigger, Ethan is 14 pounds now and he is almost as tall as the bassinet length when he is fully stretched out.

Dreaming big

Tip for new moms:

Learn to swaddle, and learn to swaddle well. I had to YouTube this many many times and still cannot get it quite perfect. I learned babies love to be swaddled and Ethan falls asleep much better when he is wrapped up. Babies’ hands can be wrapped or unwrapped in the swaddle; Ethan prefers the hands out method of swaddling. Babies are so wiggly though, if it’s not tight enough he will be able to kick his feet out and wake himself up. So a good wrap is essential to a long nap!
