Blog: Graco Modes Sport Stroller Review

When my wife and I first began researching strollers it seemed a simple enough task, to me anyways, being the one who was essentially being presented with the research and not actually doing much of it. My big concern was, is there a cup holder? And, does it hold a baby? This seemed to me to be the crux of it.

Perhaps my demeanour was a little to lackadaisical around this decision, or perhaps some recent changes in hormone levels had something to do with it, but I quickly understood my interest in this decision was tied unequivocally and directly to my care and love for our future child.

My wife has affectionately become known as “the Googler” amongst our family and close friends, a question is barely out of your mouth and she has produced the answer for you. When this penchant for searching is paired with the need to research some larger than normal purchase, as well as a woman who is off for the summer (school board, lucky), it is a recipe for a husband to get blindsided with mountains of information when he walks through the door at the end of the day. Youtube videos of high-strung, and far too excited moms reviewing their favourite strollers. “Can’t forget the amazing baby-bumper bar!!”

After much painstaking research (by Kristen) and feigned interest on my part, we came to the decision that the Graco Modes Sport was the stroller for us. It had everything we could envision requiring, light, easy to pack and take on the go, simple to transfer baby from car to stroller and ample storage. So when the travel system was delivered to our door, the decision I made was that to truly test the quality and simplicity of the product, the best thing I could do, was put it together… without instructions! It was actually very simple to do. I only had two parts left-over when I was done, and with a supplementary glance at the instruction booklet found the small piece I had missed and finished off putting it together.

Compared to a lot of the strollers we have seen our friends using, the Modes Sport is very light-weight and maneuverable.  It has served us well at street festivals throughout the summer, allowing us to avoid getting stuck behind groups of people with boat sized strollers, and my wife is grateful for the weight when she goes to her stroller-fit classes. Every ounce counts when you are trying to out-do your fellow moms in the race to get back to your pre-baby fitness levels, and between that and our petite baby girl, she has the advantage over the moms with fat babies.

It also will grow with us. Once she is out of the car seat, we will be able to insert the toddler seat into the base and continue our happy strolling.

It breaks down well for transport and the car base makes it super easy to pop it in and out of the car without having to mess around with seat-belts. For me, it is literally everything I asked for, not only does it hold the baby, but it was TWO cup holders, and a little storage compartment to boot. The only item that my wife or I have decided might be a nice feature in future versions is an adjustable handle. I am 6 feet, she is 5’2″, so we have a unique height disparity, but she finds the bar a bit high, which I tend to blame more on her munchkin sized body than the product. (If I don’t write any more posts after this, you will know she has killed me).

In the end, we feel our baby is safe and secure in this stroller, and that really is the most important thing.
