Blog: It’s meal time – Fisher Price 4-in-1 Total Clean High Chair

Do you remember the scene in Home Alone 2 the Sticky Bandits get covered in bird seed and the pigeon’s descend; attacking the bird seed as though they are convinced it will be their last meal and leaving the Sticky Bandits covered in feathers and dumb founded.

It looks something like this…

This is exactly what I liken meal time with a 9 month old to. It‘s complete chaos and hilarity definitely ensues.

Here is just a glimpse of what meal time at our place looks like –

High Chair Blog_Krysta6    High Chair Blog_Krysta5

Callum has a great time, Joe and I on the other end up looking as dumb founded as the Sticky Bandits and could quite literally assume their name after meal time is over.

As you might realize, we are at the stage were Callum is feeding himself and that means the highchair, himself, the ground, the dog, ourselves, the ceiling – essentially everything within a 10 foot radius of Callum is covered in whatever deliciousness he happens to be enjoying that day.

FP High ChairSo when I received the Fisher Price 4-in-1 Total Clean High Chair I‘ll be honest, I was a little skeptical, I really didn’t want one more thing to clean after meal time.  All I could think about was the fabric I was going to have to clean and this was daunting to me.  Mind you at the time, I was under the impression that all high chair fabric was made equal and they are not!

This is by far the easiest material I have EVER cleaned! Magic material is what I will refer to it as. It does not matter what Callum manages to smear all over it – peanut butter, smoothies, teething cookies, strawberry, you name it, he has smeared it and I’ve wiped it off without having to use any elbow grease.

The ease at which I can clean this material was all I really needed to fall for this high chair, but there are a few other features that are amazing as well, and worth the investment in this chair:

  • It’s a 4-in-1 meaning it’s a full size high chair that can morph into any of the following options as well: a SpaceSaver high chair, a booster and a youth chair. Are your savings alarms going off because they should be!  This chair will grow with your child meaning it’s the only high chair you will ever need!
  • It can go in the dishwasher! Yes you read that correctly, the entire SpaceSaver high chair portion of this chair (excluding the fabric) is dishwasher safe.
Note: while this feature is great for making sure all nooks and crannies are clean, you do need a dishwasher that is on the larger side to fit everything in. Our mid-size dishwasher and the configuration of the dish racking didn’t allow for us to clean the chair in the dishwasher.
  • Easy clean straps.
  • A wipes holder is built into the chair. Excellent for quick and handy cleanup. Though this isn’t a necessity with a high chair, and I didn’t always use the wipes, it did come in handy at times and was a nice added bonus.
  • Folds easily and compactly for easy storage. Though I normally don’t stow away the high chair, it is a great feature to have when you need to make a little extra space in your kitchen or dining room – say for when company is coming.

Now, though I do really like this high chair, there is always room for improvement, and I wouldn’t be doing my due diligence if I didn’t share with you the complete review for this product, including those things that aren’t so great.

The seat itself is narrow and on the small side. Callum isn’t a big kid by any means and is on the slender side and I find that he doesn’t have a ton of room in the seat when the tray is attached. That being said I would caution parents of older children to test that your child fits in the seat prior to purchasing it.

All things considered I would recommend this high chair to anyone that is in the market for one.  Especially those parents that travel a lot or are social butterflies and like to take their child out with them.  This high chair is so convenient and multi-versatile and will save you mega bucks in the long run. Take this from a parent, who prior to receiving this high chair, owned a travel high chair (a perch style high chair) and kept a high chair at my parents place so they had one when we visit.

The convenience of being able to have a full size high chair at home, a SpaceSaver high chair option that you can pop off and easily take with you wherever you are going, and a chair that will convert to a booster and youth chair is unreal.

There are lots of high chair options on the market, but you don’t have to break the bank to find an outstanding product that will meet the needs of you and your little one.  At $169.99 this chair is a steal given the years of use you will be able to get out of it!

Parent Tip
When shopping for your high chair pay careful attention to the material you are choosing and read reviews about how easy the high chair was to clean. You little one will learn how to feed themselves in this chair and I promise you food will be everywhere! Make your life a little easier and get a high chair that has seat padding that is stain resistant and can be easily cleaned!

I didn’t listen to this tip when I first registered for a high chair; and while I love the stylish look and minimal space the perch style high chair I had took up, the material of the chair was a nightmare to clean.
