Blog: Moms know best: Evenflo Platinum SafeMax All-in-One Car Seat Review By »

January 11th, 2017

I have been lucky enough to receive lots of free advice in the short time I have been a new mom. Some of it has been great and some of it not so great. I was in the grocery store the other day and Ethan started up a fit of cries.  I was trying to soothe him and a woman came up to me and decided to hand out some free advice to me: She told me I would have to try a lot harder than that if I wanted him to stop crying, then she walked off in a huff shaking her head. This advice I particularly was not interested in hearing, as a new mom – I am already nervous about taking my baby out in public as I am sure all new parents are. That day, I was feeling pretty confident to take Ethan to the grocery store. Regardless of what the woman said, I did not let her break my confidence and I continued to soothe Ethan the way that I know was best, and once he stopped crying, away we went, continuing the shop.  Moms know best: This saying rings true to me now that I am a mother myself; I have realized that ultimately, I do know best. I knew the best way to soothe Ethan and I did things the way I knew would work. Someone should not be able to shake my confidence.

Although, when it comes to car seats, I do not know what the best car seat to buy is. I do believe that with adequate research you can get to know which is best for your family and lifestyle; eventually you will know best, and will be drawn to the one you feel is best suited for your baby. I think it helps to get informed as much as you can for this important purchase to help guide you to that best decision.  And now I know that I am using one of the best car seats for Ethan – the Evenflo Platinum SafeMax All-in-One Car Seat.

You want to alleviate as much nervousness as you can about taking baby out into the world, and investing in the best car seat that will have your baby extra safe is a good start. This is where the Evenflo Platinum SafeMax All-in-One Car Seat will ease your stress as it is the perfect fit for everyone. You are probably already stressed enough when you try to look at all the car seats on the market; I know I was. I felt like I was drowning in products offering various safety features and designs. Now that I am more familiar with car seats (the Evenflo will be my second owned car seat), I feel confident in saying that the Evenflo SafeMax has me reassured about taking Ethan out knowing I have my son in a great car seat product.

Firstly, the Evenflo SafeMax provides you with a car seat for all ages. While I already had an infant car seat, I knew I would eventually have to look into something else, and really, who has time and energy to invest in another car seat purchase? I am sure the first one purchased was hard enough figuring out what one to buy, why not get one that offers it all? The Evenflo SafeMax offers a car seat that can be used for an infant (rear-facing) which transitions to front-facing then a booster seat (the manual has specific guidelines on age, height and weight specifications for each stage, so this will be important to read to find out where your child needs to be).

So what is so special about this car seat?

Well Evenflo promotes the fact that their products go above and beyond government standards, and there are so many advanced safety features that this car seat has to offer:

1) I was particularly impressed that this car seat is rollover tested

2) The headrest is made of layers upon layers of premium materials and there is an integrated steel frame

3) The car seat claims to use OUTLAST technology which is a temperature regulating fabric

4) Evenflo also offers harness webbing that is designed to prevent ejection and limit head excursion

All those above mentioned points can be found on the Evenflo website. Here are my personal thoughts once I had a good look at the car seat and tried it out for the first time:

1) The fabric has a very luxurious feel: A nice squishy plush feeling to it making it seem very comfortable, but also durable at the same time. I feel like it could handle some serious wear and tear. You can tell that the fabric is quality made; I felt like I was dealing with a premium material.

2) The cup holders are very deep seems like they can hold just about anything

3) A nice feature: The car seat has a layer of fabric around the crotch buckle which is nice to protect baby leg and crotch area from the heat/cold of the metal

4) The design: It just looks like a car seat that means business, you can visually see all the extra padding so I feel very confident in the added features the car seat claims to have because I feel like I can see it for myself

5) The shoulder straps: You do not have to take them off and rethread them, this helps ensure a proper fit and no need to fuss with taking the straps off and rethreading like some car seats, you just simply align the straps with baby’s’ shoulder then fasten baby in

6) Easy in and out harness: You just push the lever down between baby’s legs and pull UP on the harness to loosen the straps, and to tighten you pull on the harness adjust strap.

Initial impression:

I thought the box was huge and the product would come with lots of assembly. Also, because it was a car seat for multiple stages, I thought there might be a lot of reading ahead (the manual). Once I read the manual it was very easy, there are pictures at every step to clearly guide you on how to place your child in and out, and how to properly use each mechanism. In terms of assembly of the car seat, there is no assembly it already comes put together, you can add the extra padding (body pillow and head rest) if you are using this car seat for your newborn.

Getting Started:

We did a trial run of placing Ethan in the car seat in the house BEFORE we installed the car seat in the car. I highly suggest Evenflo SafeMax_Rachelthe same thing for any parent, before trying to get your child into the car seat once it is already in the car. Especially if you have never used a car seat before, this will help you get familiar with strapping your child in and taking them out of the car seat in the comfort of your own home. I think your baby senses when you are nervous and I know that my first few tries Ethan started crying. But I think this was due to my nervousness. I was worried the straps were too tight or not tight enough and I was fiddling around with him and the straps longer than necessary which caused him to be alarmed. That is why I suggest getting familiar inside your home.  I found what really helps is if I place Ethan in the car seat and wait a few minutes before I leave him, I will try to make him laugh and talk to him, I have found that this makes it easier for when I leave him to go drive, he is in a calmer state. This would be especially helpful for babies who are new to the car seats.

When we bought our first car seat we were taught by the Babies“R”Us car seat technicians. They were so helpful in showing us how to install the car seat. So we knew we could go back there for assistance in installing the SafeMax. Also, with the SafeMax, Evenflo offers ParentLink Premier  Service which is a video installation service with Evenflo’s certified car seat technicians. This is a really cool, unique and valuable service to give parent’s peace of mind in understanding child passenger safety. I decided to try the video installation offered by Evenflo. This was a great experience! The staff I worked with was fantastic and knowledgeable. She really helped instill confidence in me as I was able to practice working with the car seat with her there to respond to any questions I had. It was nice to see everything shown in a live mode, if you are visual person or just need some clarification on some of the installation steps, this is a great feature to take advantage of.

Thank you Evenflo for making me feel even more confident about taking Ethan out into the world! This new mommy really appreciates the extra support!

Ready to go!

Tip for new moms:

So we are all set with the safest car seat, but I still wanted peace of mind to be able to glance back at Ethan. We decided to purchase a back seat mirror and feel very comfortable now when we’re out and about with baby.
