Blog: New Beginnings: Lambs & Ivy Dena Night Owl 4-Piece Bedding Set Review By »

October 29th, 2016

I love being in Ethan’s room. Maybe it is because of all the love that went into preparing the room, and because to me, it represents new beginnings. My life has taken on a whole new meaning once I had him, it’s been the start of something new, the journey of being a mom.

Ethan’s room is surrounded by hand-made items by both my mom and mother-in-law (we have some serious creative genes in Lambs and Ivy_Rachelthis family), the décor I spent weeks picking out, and my husband put in numerous hours painting and prepping that room for our son’s arrival. The room is filled with a piece of everyone who loves him. My husband originally wanted to do a space theme in the room but I reminded him it was a nursery and that Ethan will not be able to appreciate all his space work just quite yet, so we are waiting on that……

Once Ethan gets bigger and starts expressing his likes and dislikes, I cannot wait to re-do his room to incorporate his tastes. He is an individual and I want him to express himself in any way he sees fit. His room will be a reflection of his personality. Every day I get to know my son a little bit better, pieces of who he is becoming are slowly showing themselves; I see a strong boy who is determined to sit up on his own, I see an endless energy for exploring the world, and I also see his curious side, as he has now learned about our dog, and that he has fur that can be grabbed!

When deciding on bedding and décor for your little ones room there are so many choices out there. When I was trying to get ideas for Ethan’s room I was looking on a lot of websites and popping in to the baby stores to get inspired. I noticed a lot of nurseries would have a theme, and everything would match according to that theme. Personally, I think a good place to start is to just buy a piece you love, whether that be a bedding set, or some art for the wall, and I think that the theme will develop and evolve from that. Or maybe no theme which is fine too, but I am sure the creative juices will start flowing once you get your favorite piece in the room.  I did not want to have everything matching or a theme when I created Ethan’s room; it is just a collection of items and choices made with love.

I was given Lambs & Ivy Dena Night Owl 4-Piece Bedding Set from Babies“R”Us, and what a beautiful set! Firstly, it was nice to have a new bedding set to change up my son’s current bedding. I think it’s a great idea to have more than one set… especially if mess arises you have backup! This set is all neutral colours, so it can pretty much match with any room colour in my opinion. The set is unisex, not that I think baby items need to be gender specific, owls are for everyone!

The bedding collection comes with:

Comforter: This is stunning, it has so much detail. The character owls are done in different materials so they really stand out against the pale blue background. The comforter is also very soft to touch with the suede, jersey and velour fabrics that were used. I think Ethan will love wrapping himself up in this comforter! I know that he cannot appreciate the comforter yet as he is too small for bedding items inside his crib, but this will be something to look forward to. I also like that the comforter design has the owls under a night sky, very appropriate for a nursery; it is relaxing and calming, perfect for setting the mood for sleep time for baby!

Dust Ruffle: This has stars and zigzags on it, which is nice because it pulls in the stars that are on the comforter; there are no owls on this, which I think is fine because you do not have an overwhelming amount of characters on every piece of the set. The diaper stacker has the same pattern as the dust ruffle.

Sheet: The sheet fit perfectly on the mattress I had (we bought the Windsor crib and Sealy mattress from Babies“R”Us). The Lambs & Ivy brand promotes that their sheets are made with an extra deep pocket on the bottom for a secure fit, and I found that the sheet fit super snug which was great for safety reasons. The sheet has the owl characters all over it which complements the comforter nicely.

Diaper Stacker: I wasn’t sure what this was at first when I pulled it out of the package because I have never used one. I have a changing table on top of the dresser, so I just use the drawer underneath for keeping all the diapers and related supplies. The diaper stacker would be helpful for a room that has a changing station with no drawers, or even if you do not have any changing station in the room, the diaper stacker would still come in handy to have the diapers ready when needed, and cutely displayed.

Not included: The stuffed owl is part of this collection but sold separately, but what a cute addition! Ethan loves playing with the owl, grabbing the owl and eating him. Then again, everything is edible in my son’s mind right now! The nice thing about this set is if you want to keep everything matching in the nursery and keeping on the same theme, this set offers a whole collection of other pieces you can purchase separately to add to your nursery, or even mix in with items you already have.

Tip for new moms:

I realized after I bought my bedding and mattress that I needed a mattress pad, this is one of those items that got overlooked when I was buying baby nursery items. I think you can get so caught up buying all the cute and fun stuff that you forget about the practical stuff. Let’s be honest, picking out a mattress pad isn’t overly exciting. Also, buy 2, you will need a backup. There will be accidents along the way, the pad has saved Ethan’s mattress many times from getting wet.
