Blog: Jessica Simpson Clothing Review

I would like to start this post by saying I have never owned anything with Jessica Simpson’s name on it. My wife on the other hand, has definitely been on the Jessica Simpson train since we were in high school. It started with the music, then later reality TV, and finally followed with the items in her closet. Specifically shoes. She has a certain penchant for shoes. When Babies”R”Us let us know that we would be receiving some Jessica Simpson baby clothing to try, I was excited that we would have a couple of new outfits in the closet for the fall season in the right size. Kristen was pumped. Since she likes her adult clothing line, she was pretty sure that whatever came to us would be great; and she was right.

Our little girl loved the clothing too (although she is a toddler, so I would take any of her reviews with a grain of salt). We have two really cute outfits, a little jean dress and a nice pants and sweater combo. These outfits are going to get a ton of wear through the fall, and certainly seem like they will stand up to the test. We have a wide range of clothing in our daughter’s wardrobe, from hand me downs, to grocery store brands, to designer labels, and everything in between, and the Jessica Simpson clothing stands up quality wise to anything we own.

The price point is a little higher than some of the other clothing in this girl’s exceedingly large wardrobe, but the quality and wear-ability of the materials is worth a little extra with a toddler bombing around…plus, that’s what grandparents are there for…spoiling her on adorable outfits.

One of the things both Kristen and I have been pretty purposeful about with any of the clothes we have purchased since our baby was born has been, quite honestly, asking the question “would I wear this?”. Well, for me, I ask, “Would Kristen wear this?” For obvious reasons, I think. We don’t really have much stuff with characters on it or anything like that, and I’m sure that will change once she is introduced to television etc, but right now we really call all the shots clothing wise. Anything that makes her look like a little adult is good in our books, and Jessica Simpson’s line is right on par in this department.

Both of the outfits we have wash VERY well.  My wife can tell you that I have a bit of an unhealthy obsession with clothing being wrinkle free, and there were no issues with wrinkles or the hem of the dress or bottom of the shirt rolling up or puckering, so I was happy about this. This has been an issue with some of her other dresses. It’s the worst when you get a nice outfit that comes out a wrinkled ball from the dryer, and despite my wrinkle-free preferences, I can guarantee to you that I’m not going to be spending extra time ironing a toddler’s clothing. The denim dress in particular seems like it will really last. When we first went to put it on her we were disappointed at the number of buttons down the front of the dress, nothing says fun like trying to push buttons through stiff denim with a squirmy toddler on the receiving end. But we were pleasantly surprised when what looked like stiff denim was actually super soft, and what looked like fancy buttons were actually snaps underneath; quickly making this dress one of our go-to options. It’s also pretty versatile across seasons with sleeves that can roll up or down or adding some leggings when it gets cooler, it’s soft, and is the perfect attire for backwards tractor riding.

Some of the super stylish stuff we’ve had in the past, while cute, is not comfy for general toddler usage, leading to a frustrated and screaming daughter trying to climb up the stairs in a dress that is stuck under her knees or climb onto the couch in a top that she can’t lift her arms up in. So far she seems to have no trouble at all running, sitting, climbing or playing in her new clothes because they’re soft, comfy, and don’t restrict her movement. She is getting ever-more busy and will be starting daycare soon as Kristen is heading back to work, so the toddler use is really going to get tested soon.

We’re looking forward to seeing the rest of the line come out and continuing to add to her closet. My wife would honestly wear almost everything in it herself. She insists that we now have to find some toddler-sized suede boots to go with both of these outfits for the fall…looks like we’ve got some Christmas list ideas for the grandparents already.
