NUK: How to breast and bottle feed without nipple confusion

Breastfeeding is best but sometimes you need to bottle feed. There are lots of reasons why, including: going back to work, getting some extra sleep, getting Dad involved in feeding or just because you need to supplement. So it’s okay to bottle feed but consider the following ways to ensure an easy transition between breast and bottle without causing nipple confusion.

1. Lose the guilt:

Don’t feel guilty if you choose to bottlefeed. It’s okay and sometimes necessary. You get much needed time to relax and sleep. Plus, Dad can get involved with feeding which supports his bonding with baby.

2. Bottlefeeding can support nursing.

Yes, that’s right. With the right bottle nipple, you can avoid nipple confusion. Choose a bottle like NUK bottles with PerfectFit™ nipples – which are shaped just like Mom’s nipple during breastfeeding – so your baby can switch easily between breast and bottle.

3. Pumping is still breastmilk.

There are lots of benefits to pumping including giving you flexibility and getting Dad or other caregivers involved with feeding. Even better – your baby is still getting breastmilk! And if you are going to pump, find the right pump that suits your needs. A Double Electric Pump is ideal for pumping both breasts simultaneously while a Manual Pump is a great option to pump remaining milk in one breast or as a back-up.
