One Nursery—Three Ways!

One of the best things about expecting a baby can be creating a nursery. Your nesting instincts kick in and you’re ready to make a cozy home for your new addition. The task can be daunting but we’ve created three gender-neutral looks starting with the key building blocks: a crib and dresser, perfect for baby one and versatile enough to rework for number two or three.

Start with classic furniture elements with timeless lines such as a convertible crib and multipurpose dresser. Save floor space with a dresser and change-table combo, adding a changing pad for safety and comfort.

NURSERY LOOK NO. 1: AU NATUREL

Create a serene retreat for you and baby with an earthy, monochrome look. Shades of cream and beige in a variety of textures will calm your senses during middle-of-the-night feedings. Neutrals such as light grey, flax beige and warm cream combine for a visual massage. Animal silhouettes give a touch of youthful character while investments like an area rug and glider stand the test of time. Tie it all together with a satin finish paint job in classic cream. (Our choice: Benjamin Moore OC-9 Ballet White)

NURSERY LOOK NO. 2: MOD REDUX

An eclectic mix of prints and solids set the tone for a midcentury-inspired look. Soft pastels marry well with their opposites on the colour wheel such as turquoise and orange, and pale blue and red. Combine mini patterns and chevrons, solid colours and graphics in juicy hues that will grow with your babe. A hint of brown keeps the look current rather than saccharine. Keep it fresh with a pale aqua wall colour. Our colour pick: Benjamin Moore Serenity.

NURSERY LOOK NO. 3: GORGEOUS & GRAPHIC

Play on babies’ attraction to shape and contrast with strong graphics and clean lines. Almost anything goes in the three-colour palette. Choose chevrons and stripes for bedding and textiles and anchor the look with a soft area rug. Bonus points for matching toys. Swaddle the room with a paint shade like Benjamin Moore Stonington Gray that bounces light. Forgo the usual mobile for a striped ceiling or wall to create visual interest.
