Blog: Out with the old, in with the new: Playtex Baby Nurser Bottles Review

The staple to my daily wardrobe used to be my oversized Michael Kors tote purse, but that now has been replaced with a cross-body diaper bag. I just toss my wallet inside my diaper bag along with Ethan’s daily essentials, and away I go. As stylish as I may think my diaper bag is, it does not have the same glamour appeal as my MK purse did.  As much as I love my MK purse, it really has no purpose anymore, retirement came early for my dear friend.  Ethan has become morePlaytex Newborn Gift Set of a priority to me versus looking stylish. As my MK purse sits in the corner of my room I realize how much my life has changed. Once you have a baby you put them and all their needs first– a diaper bag just has more use than my designer purse.

Less is more – the less stuff you have to carry, the more relaxed you will be!  I already feel like a travelling circus act at times, juggling to carry around all my necessities: my diaper bag, baby stroller, baby toys, baby blankets, feeding equipment, food, and clothes, the last thing I need is to lug around a large purse. Now I understand and can fully appreciate why they say mom’s value quick, easy, convenience and space. This leads me into my review on the Playtex Baby Nurser Bottles, and how you will appreciate the quick, easy, convenient and space saving ability of this bottle!

I was given a Playtex Baby Nurser with Drop-Ins Liners set which comes with 4 bottles, slow and medium nipples to offer a few months of feeding options. I read the manual right away only because I had never used anything like this before, I was not sure if there was something specific I needed to do with getting the liners in properly, but once I read the instructions, I realized it is pretty straightforward.

Playtex_2

These bottles look like something from space, they are far from your “typical” bottle in terms of design –  Very futuristic looking! The bottle is quite wide and has a contraption on top which is meant for the angling ability. The bottle has the ability to snap into an angled position (which is meant to support semi-upright feeding as advertised). On the top of the bottle there is an extra sheet of plastic overlaying the bottle, it is pretty straightforward how you get the bottle to move into the angle position- you simple snap it to the side, and you will hear the snap to know it’s secure, and you’re ready to feed baby. This bottle delivers; I found this angle position soooooo incredibly comfortable. The bottle being angled keeps your arm from getting tired so you feel much more relaxed during feeding time. This has now become my go-to bottle, largely due to the reason I love the comfort, and my wrist is thanking me too.

At first when I placed the liner inside the bottle, I thought it was strange that the liner is just suspended, it looks so flimsy, and you’d think that the milk will somehow spill out. But that never happens, the liner never moves out of place and there is no spillage. Once you snap the nipple ring onto the bottle, the liner becomes secure in place. The liner will start to slowly collapse on its own as the baby drinks the milk, keeping air from getting inside. Out of all the bottles I have used – in my opinion, this one would be the most realistic to being able to keep the air out. The liner is literally collapsing before your eyes – so you can see it keeping the air out – where other bottles say they do that, but you can’t see it mechanically happening like you can with this bottle.

Before I got this bottle, I was carrying around 2-3 sterilized bottles. Now with the Nurser, I only need Playtex_1to carry around one bottle and you simply add a new liner inside the bottle for each new feeding. There is no need to sterilize the liners as they are already pre-sterilized (so less washing) and the convenience of less items to carry around is a huge bonus! What a great product to have when you’re going out to save space in that already overstocked diaper bag.

Now this is when you will really appreciate this bottle – the car ride. When your baby starts crying and you haven’t even finished your errand and need to calm him. This bottle is great – because it has the angled design the baby can stay seated and you are able to feed him without spillage everywhere (I know this from experience with other bottles – spillage can happen).

The only downside with this bottle is that you are creating garbage as you are tossing the liner away after each use. Also, you have to keep purchasing the liners so this obviously would get costly – but if you prefer saving time, and creating more space in your diaper bag (like me) then this is the perfect bottle for you.

Tip for new moms:

I knew nothing about buying a diaper bag, I had no idea what was needed and how much stuff I would really be carrying around on a daily basis. Buy an inexpensive bag. It does not even have to be a “diaper” bag per se; even a large tote would do. Something lightweight and that offers lots of space. I realized that I overspent on my small diaper bag and truthfully, I bought it due to the look and style of it… when I really should have been thinking about practicality.
