PHILIPS AVENT: 10 Tips for Safe Bottle Feeding

Whether you’re solely bottle feeding or combining it with breastfeeding, you probably have questions. Perhaps you’re searching for the best baby bottle on the market or you’re just looking for bottle feeding tips to help feeding time go smoothly. No need for panic, we’ve got you covered. We’ve put together these tips to keep your little one safe and happy when they’re hungry.

1. Place the nipple in boiling water for 5 minutes before you use it for the first time to ensure hygiene.

2. Clean and sterilize all feeding parts before each use. A steam sterilizer that eliminates 99.9% of bacteria from your baby’s feeding items is a great way to keep your baby safe during feeding time.

3. Opting to use a natural, gentle cleanser is always the better choice. Don’t use abrasive cleaning agents or anti-bacterial cleaners with bottles and nipples.

4. Practicing good hygiene yourself and keeping feeding areas clean are also important to safe feeding. Wash your hands thoroughly and ensure surfaces are clean before handling sterilized components.

5. Don’t warm milk in a microwave as this may cause uneven heating and could scald your baby. Instead, use a bottle warmer or place the bottle in a in a bowl of warm water until it reaches body temperature.

6. In order to avoid potentially burning your baby, always check the milk temperature on your wrist before feeding.

7. Don’t heat milk more than once.

8. Make sure that the bottle isn’t over-tightened.

9. Inspect the nipple to ensure that there’s no damage and in good condition for feeding. To inspect the nipple, pull it in each direction.

10. Throw away bottle and nipples at the first sight of damage, weakness or scratching.

11. For hygiene and safety purposes, replace bottle nipples and cup spouts after three months.
