PHILIPS AVENT: Feeding Positions that Can Help with Common Baby Issues

The argument of which baby feeding position is best has been a highly debated topic for years. Whether you believe that feeding lying down or upright is best, there’s no denying that having the right baby bottle also plays a crucial part in alleviating common baby feeding issues. You can explore the range of baby bottles with different features from Philips Avent to meet your feeding needs.

While nursing positions can differ depending on your personal preference, there are some baby feeding positions you can adopt to alleviate the symptoms if your baby is prone to ear infections, or suffers from reflux or painful gas. Using baby positioning pillows, proper feeding bottles, and the right feeding positions are all things that can contribute to a happily fed baby.

Reducing reflux, gas, and little tears.

It’s preferred by some moms but feeding your baby while they are lying down should actually be avoided. A more ideal position is to keep your little one’s head above their tummy and their airway elongated. This will reduce some of the common baby feeding issues. If you’re feeding from a baby bottle, holding the bottle at a 45° angle results in a more efficient feed. Using a bottle like the Philips Avent Natural Baby Bottle will also provide a more natural feed since the wide breast-shaped nipple promotes natural latch-on. This will also allow your little one will be able to efficiently transition from breastfeeding to bottle-feeding.

Reflux and painful gasses can be reduced with an upright baby feeding position since it gives the milk a straight and easy route to the tummy. Similar to breastfeeding, paying attention to how your baby latches onto the bottle is also important. Preventing the swallowing of extra air by ensuring the baby bottle nipple is filled with milk will also help reduce these feeding issues.

Keep milk in the nipple and keep air out with the Philips Avent Anti-colic bottle with AirFree vent. With these bottles, the nipple stays full of milk even when the bottle is horizontal. This allows you to feed your baby in a more natural and ideal upright position, reducing reflux, helping with digestion, and making feeding time more efficient for you and your little one.

Preventing ear infections.

While using the cradle position (in the crook of your arm) to feed your baby is very cozy, nurturing, and great for bottle-feeding, it’s important to make sure your baby isn’t in a position that is too horizontal. Using an upright feeding position reduces the chances of your little one getting ear infections.

A healthcare professional should be consulted if you are looking for further answers or if your baby continues to exhibit feeding symptoms that aren’t alleviated by the above suggestions.
