PHILIPS AVENT: Top Tips for a Comfortable Feed at Home

If you’re feeling some butterflies about feeding when you’re not at home, you’re definitely not alone. Most nursing moms find feeding in public a little awkward at first. Creating a breast milk supply can allow someone to help you feed and allow you to feed outside the home. A breast pump can help you express milk and comfortably start a breast milk supply. If you’re battling with butterflies or just want some tips to ease yourself into the process, use this guide to help you.

Practice at home

Tame your nerves by practicing at home in front of a mirror. Many moms who do this realize that it’s actually much more discreet than they first thought.

Scout out a spot

A good confidence booster is to find a place to feed before you actually need it. Whether you’re at a friend’s place or at a shopping mall, you’ll feel more relaxed if you make a decision before a hunger pang strikes. Look for a place where you can sit comfortably for the whole feed, stay warm and won’t be disturbed.

Timing counts

If you can already see a feeding pattern, use this to plan ahead. And don’t worry if feeding times still feel unpredictable. Just keep an eye out for early hunger signals such as licking lips or sucking fingers so that your little one is happy and calm for meal time.

The right gear

There are all sorts of breastfeeding specific clothes you can buy to make your feeds more comfortable. Things like breastfeeding bras, light blankets and slings are among the most popular. What you choose to use (or not use) just comes down to personal preference, so go with whatever makes you feel most comfortable.
