Blog (Product Review): Safety 1st Recline and Grow Booster Seat By »

September 26th, 2016

Guest Blogger Alert!

When I was sent the Safety 1st Recline and Grow Booster Seat to review, I immediately thought of my sister-in-law and niece Eliana, who is 4 months younger than MJ. I’ve already put you through reading one of my high chair reviews, so I thought a fresh perspective, from a first time mom not that far behind me, would be a nice changeup! It also helps that she’s a teacher and great writer, so I knew Babies“R”Us wouldn’t mind!

So without further ado, see below for my sister-in-law Catherine’s booster seat review.

Enjoy 🙂

———

Mealtime while travelling and visiting is made comfortably efficient with a quality booster seat/high chair. When I was gifted with the Safety 1st Recline and Grow Booster Seat I was very excited. Despite initially desiring a different brand, this item has been a pleasant asset to our toddler’s growing needs.

There is never anything completely perfect so I have broken down a list of positives and negatives in regards to this product.

PROS

Simple Instructions:

The instructions are quite straight forward and very simple to follow. The assembly of the booster chair was a breeze for me and I am not usually one with patience to set most of our baby gear up. I had everything assembled in a short period time and was very pleased.

Versatility:

This product can be used from newborn to toddler (3 months to 4 years) and has five feeding stages to accommodate growth. ‎This includes different height settings and two different tray options. I particularly like the size of the toddler tray as it fits my daughter’s plate and utensils easily.

Stability/Comfort:

The booster seat is quite large and has great back support that includes various degrees of recline. It is truly a very stable seat that keeps the child in safe and comfortable position while eating and doing seat activities. There is very little “budge” room and when the tray is placed in position the child is very safely secure, yet free to move and eat.  The large base of the booster seat seems to also make quite the comfortable and secure chair while on the floor. I often find my daughter happily sitting in it during play time.

Easy to wash:

Due to the seat being so easy to assemble, it is equally as simple to break down and throw in the wash.

High chair alternative:

Perhaps if I had seen this item first I would have never purchased a high chair! Though I do absolutely LOVE my high chair immensely, this booster is a very fitting and adequate substitute. I highly recommend it for those who have minimal space in their eating area.

CONS

Transportation /Size:

Being more of a minimalist I do not like to transport clunky items around while on the go. I find that this booster is great for at home, but not very practical for bringing around.

Another issue in regards to sizing is that the rather large base does not fit securely on all chairs and can pose a problem. The chair will wobble if not secured properly. As a result I have found it much more functional using our stroller tray for meal times while out and about and it seems to work just fine, plus much less to carry.

5-point Harness System:

Safety 1st is definitely in the description for a reason! However, the harness system is a bit difficult to work with. The buckles do not come apart very easily and I have had to learn to slide and wiggle my daughter in with the hooks in place opposed to undoing them each time. ‎Overall it is not a huge factor for me, but it may be for someone preferring a smoother process.

Final Verdict

This booster seat has served its purpose so far. Though transportation of it can be a hassle, it does fit well on our kitchen chairs and will accommodate our toddler comfortably when she is ready for booster time at home.

I also reiterate my recommendation of this booster seat for those who do not want to accommodate a high chair in their kitchen space and need an adequate, efficient, and economically friendly replacement.
