They are even soothing for my husband and I! It's great to travel with as long as there's something to loop it on to. I wish there was a stiffer hook so that I could attach it to the bassinet. But my son loves it. My son loves this sheep more than anything. It works as well today as it did the day I bought it. Our son was colicky and this (in combo with a pacifier) soothed him every, single time!!! I cannot say enough about this. We have a nursery sound machine with twinkling lights but it is this portable one that is the true winner. We attached it to the bassinet, to the car seat, to the stroller. I even bought a 2nd one, just in case we ever lost the first one. The first one I purchased did not work so I had to return it for a new one. Then after having the second one only two months it stopped working. I thought that it was the batteries and even then it still do not work. But I REALLY wanted to comment on its longevity. Hubby accidently put this sheep in the washing machine &amp;amp; dryer TWICE!!! and guess what...the thing STILL WORKS! Amazing. Hopefully my second baby will use it more. It always helps put him to sleep which is great. He loves the rain and stream sounds. He hates the whale and ocean because they fade in and out and it startles him. We rely heavily on this sheep. I don't like how there is a timer and I don't like how the timer ends so abruptly. It would be nice if it faded out near the end as a lot of time the sudden silence wakes him up. Also, recently our sheep has started acting up; it turns off at random intervals, it crackles, the buttons don't work unless you turn the sheep on and off numerous times. We bought this at Christmas and now not even 3 months later, the ocean button and the whale button no longer work. The heart button rarely works. This is the case even with brand new batteries. The rain button is the only one that remains working. We've only ever used the ocean button and now our baby is harder to put to sleep because he was used to it, which was the whole point of purchasing this item, sleep conditioning. I see that someone had a similar problem with this item only working for 4 months. I highly advise against purchasing this, as 3-4 months is not an acceptable longevity for this item, especially for babies with difficulty sleeping for whom you are trying to provide some consistency and routine, only to have it suddenly changed, which is disruptive and detrimental. I am very unhappy with this purchase. I would have preferred there to be an option for continuous play, as it grew tiring to have to keep going back in the room to turn it back on. However, the worst thing that happened was that it stopped working after 4 months of use. We have changed the batteries several times, but it still refuses to turn on.
