We also received the Philips Avent Infant Starter Bottle Set as part of the weeSpring Parent Panel. My Son began to refuse to take bottles around 4 months of age and was only being breastfed when we received the bottle set and bottle nipple. It was super helpful to have a variety of nipple choices to try with our son, because despite his age the medium nipple flow was too fast for him. However, we were ecstatic when our son took breastmilk from the Phillips Avent Bottle with the Philips Avent Natural Slow Flow Nipple. He is currently 5 months and still using the Slow Flow Nipple. Although, I am happy to have the Medium Flow Nipple for him to grow into. Thank you to weeSpring Parent Panel for sending me this Philips Avent natural medium flow nipple to try and review.
Date published: 2018-01-21

Rated 5 out of 5 by EverydayLovens from Philips Avent Natural Medium Flow Nipple [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I first tried the medium flow nipple since that is the size I use on the other brand of bottles. My breastmilk also comes out very fast fast so I thought this would be the right size. But the medium flow was way too fast for my 5 month old. Milk sprayed everywhere as he struggled to keep up. Once I changed out the nipple size to the slow flow nipples, he took RIGHT to the bottle and seemed very happy. I'm happy to have the medium flow on hand for my son to grow into! I strictly breastfeed so that means lots and lots of pumping at work. My little one gave me problems in the beginning taking a bottle, so that meant lots of traveling back and forth to home during my lunch break (which for me was great to see him but not so great for my co-workers). After many different brands of bottles, he finally let go of his stubbornness and gave in to the idea of a bottle! Everything was packaged really well when I received the product; no defects at all. First off, I think it is great to have a variety of nipples ready to go for your little one! Currently mine is still on a slow flow nipple (he seems to get too much and kind of chokes on the milk). I was a little unsure of these nipples. My little one is VERY picky about his nipple styles. He seems to gag a little on the longer ones like most bottles have. So on first use with the medium flow I wasn't expecting too much, but to my surprise he loved them!!! He took it great and drank the whole bottle without any issues! I do think though that if I would have tried these at the very beginning of our bottle journey he would not have liked them, but since he is getting used to bottles now he seems to have no problem with these. My guy never had issues with colic but this would be a great option for any babies since this has an anti-colic vent. These are very easy to clean (especially if you are like me and don't have a dishwasher). I love the shape of this nipple (the wide-base and flexible nipple) and I think this is why my little one took so well to it. I would definitely buy this as a baby shower gift and recommend this product for all moms to put on there registry! It's a great idea to think ahead and have more flow options ready to guy when your little one is ready for it! I received the product from the weeSpring Parent Panel but will be purchasing additional ones. Our baby took to the nipple immediatley — I think the shape of it is perfect for her mouth and she doesn’t complain one bit when I feed her with it. As long as you point the vent upwards when feeding, you will have zero leaks. She also didn’t have any excessive gas or anything after feeding from these — I think the nipples are very well designed and definitely worth a try! We've tried (and in most cases, failed) to give him several different types of bottles. I'm pleased to report that he did take a bottle with the Philips Avent Natural Variflow nipple! (Pro tip: we tickled his lips a bit with the tip of the nipple, and that encouraged him to latch onto it.) The downside is that the flow of milk was pretty fast, even on the smallest setting. My baby is a leisurely sipper, so this may have more to do with his eating personality than with the product itself. I breastfed my first baby exclusively because I could not find a nipple that he would take successfully. Although I love nursing, I always wished for the additional freedom that comes with a baby who can be bottle-fed by someone else. With my second child, I was determined to find a nipple that worked! I tried a dozen different nipples to no avail until I finally attempted the Philips Avent Natural Variflow Nipple. What a difference! After a few minutes of hesitation, my baby latched on and took to the nipple just as well as she breastfeeds! I really believe the difference is the feel of the nipple in her mouth and the variable flow that more closely mimics the experience she has while nursing. My daughter is fed from the breast about 80% of the time. She really only gets bottle fed when I’m working or when it seems like she needs another ounce or two before bed. When we first introduced a bottle it was with a preemie nipple so as to prevent her from having a preference for the bottle over the breast. We have recently introduced the size 1 nipples from Avent and she did fabulously with them. We couldn't really tell a difference between them and the preemie nipples except that she did finish her bottle a little quicker. She didn't have any gas or spit-up issues after using these nipples. Since we did so well with the size 1 nipples we thought we would give the size 2 a try and then the 3 since she is within the age range and wanted to see how she would handle it. We didn't make it past the size 2 nipple. She seemed very overwhelmed by the flow of this nipple and we had to switch back to the size 1 nipple. Overall, I think it's super helpful to have a variety of nipple choices for baby as they develop. Unfortunately, we just aren't quite ready to move to a faster flow. These nipples are an ultra soft and flexible silicone and my little one latched right on the first time with no problem, better than with our usual bottles even! I was concerned that since she was used to a flatter bottle nipple she would struggle but she did great with the round natural nipple. They are super easy to put into the lid and snap into place so you know they are sealed and won't leak. They have an anti-colic system built in which means no extra parts to clean and no gassy baby! Our only issues with these nipples were our little poky eater just wasn't quite ready for the faster flow yet and when she'd get to the bottom of her bottle, the nipple would get pinched off since she's an upright feeder. The review provided is my own experience with the Natural Variflow Nipple, and not influenced by Phillips Avent or weeSpring Parent Panel. Here are my two cents... *Before testing this nipple, my baby girl was first breast fed, and then introduced to a bottle. Without fail, each pregnancy I lose my milk around 4 months, so I had already purchased bottles and nipples. When she was introduced to the Philips Avent nipple at 6 months, it seemed like such a better fit for her mouth. She adjusted without missing a beat, and watching her eat looked much more natural, like she was eating off of the breast again. *The Natural Variflow Nipple is wide, has natural feeling groves, and forms into a natural looking nipple. It looks more like a real breast/nipple than any other bottle nipple I have yet seen. There are 3 flow rates: I, II, and III, and when my 6 month old baby started using this nipple she preferred the flow rate III. This was also recommended age rage for that flow rate, so it seems that the flow rates are correctly paired with the age of the baby. *My baby did not experience much colic or gas from birth, and I am happy to see that did not change when I changed her bottle nipple either. The Natural Variflow Nipple has anti-colic valves that release air back into the bottle rather than the babies tummy. The best part about this is that it's all engineered into the nipple, and doesn't require extra pieces to keep, or to be looking for during those early morning feedings. Overall, I highly recommend this nipple. My baby prefers it too. It's more natural looking and feeling. The flow is perfect for her liking. It doesn't leak when she drops it, or tries to roll over when drinking. Because it's wide, it's not only more natural looking and feeling, but it's much easier to keep clean. A normal bottle brush can clean it just fine, without having to buy or use a separate brush for the nipple alone. As a mother of 4 children ranging in age from 6 months to 8 years, this has been the best nipple I have yet used for my babies. I have since purchased the Philips Avent My Natural Trainer Cup, because it is the perfect adjustment from a bottle/nipple to a sippie cup in my opinion.
Date published: 2018-01-17

Rated 5 out of 5 by EmilyD from This is a convenient product [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been breastfeeding my baby from the beginning and was a little reticent to start bottle feeding because I've heard that babies can get nipple confusion; my concern was that if I started her on the bottle too quickly, she wouldn't want to breastfeed. So I waited until she was over 2 months (what my pediatrician recommended) and had her try some of the bottles and nipples that my older daughter had used. She wouldn't take them! My mom, mother in law and husband all tried giving her the bottle and she cried and cried. The pediatrician recommended trying different brands so it was perfect when the WeeSpring Parent Panel sent me the Avent Natural Variflow Nipples to try. My daughter had no problem with this one! I think what made the difference was that these nipples are more similar to my nipple so she took to it more easily. Also, I love that I can adjust the flow of milk that she gets - there are 3 settings that can be adjusted to get a slower or faster flow. This is so convenient because as your baby adjusts and finds the right flow, you don't have to keep changing out and washing a bunch of nipples in the process. She tends to be a hard sucker so I found that the slower flow worked for her. I'll definitely be buying more of these nipples.
Date published: 2018-01-17

Rated 4 out of 5 by kwillia88 from Great option, but I'll stick with a lower flow nipple [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this product as part of the weeSpring Parent Panel. I have been using the Philips Avent Natural Baby Bottles for years now and LOVE this new variable flow nipple. It’s been great for my teething 3 month old. I can adjust the flow of milk without having to change the nipple. It‘s been really hard for her to breastfeed since her mouth hurts so much. The variable nipple has made it easy for her to drink without much pain. I can turn it to the fastest flow and she can drink without much effort. Before getting this nipple we were having to switch out different nipple levels to help her drink. As a mom of 3 kids under 3 years old that was not convenient. I was spending too much time washing bottles and nipples after trying so many. This one nipple has 3 settings and all you do is turn the bottle to get a slower/faster flow. What a great idea. We have yet to use it with thicker liquids, but have loved it so far. I will definitely be buying more.
Date published: 2018-01-17

Rated 5 out of 5 by lensab from Excellent Product! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this bottle nipple from the weeSpring Parent Panel. I have a 4-month old son who is exclusively formula fed. I love that there are different flow nipples for these bottles. As my sons gets older and his intake of formula increases, he was starting to get frustrated because of how hungry he was and how long it was taking to feed him. He started to reject the bottle and would get really fussy halfway through the feed. Once we switched the nipple, the flow was so much faster, it basically cut his feeding time in half and he was so much happier! I am not sure how well this nipple would work for someone who breast feeds though and might want the flow to be comparable to that when they breast feed.
Date published: 2018-01-17

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Great speed [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is an amazing nipple! I was able to adjust the flow of milk based on what my baby needed. Some other brands I have used in the past do not provide as many flow options as advent does. My 5month old took to this nipple pretty quickly! He was used to using another brand so the first time he took in more air than I would have liked. But by the third time he was a pro. The nipple was easy to wash and very flexible which mimics the breast well! I would recommend this product to friends, however I am very pleased with the bottle brand we have been using from birth and my son appears to prefer his normal bottle over this new one. Especially since i am 98% exclusively breastfeeding. Our son really didn’t notice a difference at all! The washing and assembling of the bottles was an ease and perfect for busy mama’s! The vent with the anticolic nipple seemed to do just what it needed to do!! Loved the easy flow it had for my son. The Avent pacifiers are the only pacifiers we will use. It’s the only one he seems to like, so we were very pleased!! When trying out different flow rates to see what baby prefers, this is so much easier than traditional nipples. First, you normally have to buy the different flow rates (adds up quickly especially if you haven't found a preferred brand), then while you're feeding baby you would have to pause, switch out the nipple, try again with the new one, etc. I love that with the Variflow all you have to do is turn the bottle so that the number I, II, or III etched in the nipple is pointing down toward baby's chin. I tested out the different flows before trying it on my daughter by putting in some water and turning the bottle to see how fast it dripped out and there was a definite difference in flow corresponding to the numbers. All that being said, my 3 month old does NOT like taking a bottle. She tends to play with the nipple and then let whatever milk comes out of it dribble out of her mouth. So as for which flow rate she would prefer or if it relieves colic or gas, I am not sure; but not for lack of trying. Out of all the bottles we've tried she has taken to the Philips Avent Natural Baby Ultra Soft Bottle. If the Variflow nipple were also ultra soft, I would have given the product 5 stars instead of 4. The product is very easy to clean and assemble/disassemble. Thank you to WeeSpring Parent Panel for sending me this product to try and review.
Date published: 2018-01-16

Rated 3 out of 5 by courtbrinkk from Not right for my baby I was given this bottle nipple to try as part of the weeSpring Parent Panel. My son will only use the Avent pacifiers, so I thought these nipples would be a great fit for us. Unfortunately, we did not have much success. After a week of trying, there was a lot of milk still leaking all over him, most likely from a poor latch, and he was gassier than ever. I think the product is durable and easy to clean. It is soft and a great shape for baby's mouth, and would be perfect for switching or transitioning between breast and bottle feeding. I thought the natural shape and familiarity of the pacifiers would be a benefit but they were not right for us.
Date published: 2018-01-16

Rated 4 out of 5 by yuli8987 from great variety [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was so excited to receive this product since the variety in the nipple flow allows the bottle to grow with our baby! (Thanks to the weeSpring Parent Panel for providing me with this bottle nipple) We really loved the fact that it had the three different flows. I mostly breastfeed but bottle feed when i have to go places without baby. My letdown is really fast so the baby usually is done feeding quickly and then just enjoys soothing. The different flows allows my baby to get the same feeding from a bottle. When eating we use the 2 which allows him to get a faster flow of milk. And when hes just using the bottle for soothing, we use the 1 so that he isn't getting much milk when he doesn't really want to. I also enjoy the natural shape of the nipple and that its bite resistant since our little one is teething and likes to bite on it since its not super soft. I do wish it was easier to interchange between the different flows. I didn't find it as easy to take off the cap, take off the nipple, adjust the groove to the flow you wanted on the nipple and then make sure you replace the nipple correctly or there was leakage. I wish maybe it was just a simple twist, but it was difficult to twist the nipple while still attached to the ring. Overall, I truly enjoyed this nipple and can't wait to continue using it as our baby grows.
Date published: 2018-01-16

Rated 5 out of 5 by BettyGmz from I loved these for his bottles!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My son is the type of baby the prefers eating when it’s let down because the flow is quick so having this nipple size was perfect he ate without any fussiness definitely glad I was able to try these out.we had tried out Dr. Browns and they didn’t workout at all. I'm not sure why this is a new thing, or maybe it's just new to me, but it's great! Being able to choose what flow you need without having a cabinet full of nipples to change in and out is super nice. Now, for my specific baby he uses a bottle pretty infrequently, so he doesn't instantly love them, but this one went pretty well, considering. If he fusses when trying to feed him a bottle I wonder if the flow is too much or not enough, so with this nipple we could just move it quickly. He settled on II. As far as gas, I did have to burp him several times for one bottle, so I'm not sure it solves the problem to alleviate gassiness. If you have a generally gassy baby, this might not be the best match for you, otherwise it's a really great option!
Date published: 2018-01-16

Rated 4 out of 5 by Nkirk from Too fast for my breastfed baby [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recieved this nipple at no cost from the WeeSpring parent panel. My little girl took Philips Avent pretty easily. Took a couple tries which is expected. We waited over a month before introducing a bottle since I was exclusively breast feeding but I wanted to test a few before going back to work. She responded to these well. I also like that Philips Avent has a newborn flow nipple which is less than number 1. I don’t know of any orher brands that offer that. We don’t use the medium flow. I feel that it’s fast since I’m still breastfeeding. She’s 4 months but hasn’t struggled with the slow flow or shown that she wants a faster flow. So we’ll continue to hold onto the medium flow and try again later. This was my first time using a Philips Avent bottle/nipple (Thanks to the weeSpring Parent Panel for providing me with this product.) I love the shape of the nipple - the way my son drinks using this nipple closely resembles breastfeeding. I also love the concept of using one nipple to have different flow rates. With our other bottle brand, we have had to change out nipples multiple times already for a bigger size to allow a faster flow. Unfortunately, my baby did not like this bottle.
