The 3 year old has no problem using it perfectly. The 11 month old was able to drink from it when somebody else held it under him. When given the cup independently, he liked chewing on the straw- which is fine- the straw is perfectly safe for him to teethe on! But when he had the cup by himself, he kept pulling out the straw. Maybe he was trying to pick up the cup by the straw? I also want to note that this cup is spill resistant, but not spill-proof. I filled it less than halfway, and when it got accidentally knocked over onto its side, nothing spilled. But when the baby took out the straw and inverted the cup, water spilled everywhere. Even then, it didn't spill quickly, and he picked up the cup himself before it was completely empty. This is a really high quality cup for &quot;little kids&quot; and it's a design that older kids should be perfectly happy to use, as it doesn't look like a &quot;baby cup.&quot; The spill-resistant design is good for adults too, if they want a cup with a straw that's this small- though I think most adults would want a larger capacity if they're bothering with a travel lid. I haven't used it for anything but water so I'm not sure how easy it would be to clean if it had milk or juice and got misplaced for a while before washing. I know that I've had to throw out many sippy cups that got moldy when my kids were little, because they got misplaced and weren't washed promptly. This material and design looks like it should be easy to wash and sanitize if necessary, but I can't confirm that. It's perfectly adequate as the &quot;backup sippy cup at Grandma's house&quot; if my daughter forgets to pack the regular sippy cups, but it's not a design she'd want to purchase specifically for the baby.
