I cannot say if the vent helped or not with these issues because our son was so bad gassy with using the bottles but we didn't try other brands due to paying for these. The main complaint I have is how bad the bottles leaked. Later, for our first grandson, I found the Dr Brown standard bottles to be quite convenient, and was pleased that he didn't have to be burped until the bottle was finished. Next came the TRIPLET preemies (now 13 months old), and I am even more enthusiastic about Dr Brown's bottles. Happy babies and happy adults! BTW - I discovered this morning when getting Pediasure ready for one of the triplets, that the shorter vent (etc) fit into/onto an 8-oz Pediasure bottle. I have been lucky enough to encourage parents to use them and then I get to use them here. It started with my grandson who had extreme reflux. It really helped to reduce gas. I tell parents, yes, there are a few more parts to wash, but it is totally worth it!! I keep my own set here and wash them myself, so the parents don't have the extra. It works great. He does wonderful with them not really gassy from excess air. My biggest concern is I bought a pack of the standard bottles and they leaked like crazy!! My sons speech therapist explained the difference between the options and standard bottles and I came to realize that my standard package of bottles had the nipples meant for the options bottles. I was very disappointed at buying a product that I had loved in the NICU only to have so many problems and I wasn't able to find the answer online when I had googled it. My son ended using the preemie nipple from in the NICU seeing as it is the only nipple I have that is meant for the standard bottle. I had tried purchasing in stores and they didn't have them. Currently he is back on an ND continuous feeding pump so I have time to get the correct nipples. It came to my attention that I am not alone with the packs of standard bottles coming with the options nipples and experiencing leaking. I'd love it if Dr. Brown's would ensure each bottle had the correct nipples before sending them out. No one wants a leaky bottle and most people would just switch to a different brand rather than figure out why a bottle leaks. I'm glad the speech lady informed me of this issue to where before my son got put on the ND feedings I didn't have to change his clothes each feeding and struggle to get the bottle to stop leaking. These are honestly an awesome product that I wish I had know more about with my older two kids. My baby is 3 and a half months old and still using them. It would be great if you guys made a sippie cup for babys six months and up like Nuk has some. My only concern on the bottles are that you have to be very careful with not turning them upside-down or for it to liedown cause it will leak. My baby is tongue tied and had a hard time with feeding. We used Dr. Browns and no problems. It also cut back on his hiccups and spitting up. I love the new bottles that you can use with or without the inserts. Now that he is older we are using them less. The baby also loves the pacifiers, they are all one piece (which I like, no worries about pieces coming apart and choking) and they are the same as the bottle nipple. I wish the bottles were easier to clean but, I don't think there is much you can do about that. And now on my last baby THANK YOU DR BROWNS for the preemie flow. He was full term but could not handle the flow of number one. We are now on level 3 at 8 months and used the y cut when he had added cereal in his milk (silent and regular acid reflux). I can't say enough great things about Dr browns! They now even make option bottle to use without the vent and we have those as well and they work good but I still prefer to use the vent system. The only bottle one of my twin girls would take is the Dr Brown bottle with the preemie nipple due to tongue tied. I have tried a couple other brands that I recieved as a sample or gift and I didn't like them as much!
