The Secure Step gate helps parents keep their children safe from common household dangers, especially around the stairs. The four point hardware mount provides a secure and easy top-of-stair mounting for your home. Depending on how you set the swing control, the gate will swing in one or both directions to prevent swinging over the stairs. To use the child-resistant, one-handed Lever Loc mechanism, simply squeeze the buttons and push down to open. This will allow you to pass-through the gate quickly and easily, but the two motions to unlock the gate will be too difficult for baby. To close and lock the gate, just give the door a gentle push and watch the slam-latch feature take over. A quick glance at the red-green lock indicator will tell you if the gate is securely locked. Most other gates have an additional bar at the bottom, this one does not and was the reason we chose this one. I feel safe knowing I can carry my baby through without watching my step to avoid tripping on an extra bar. Way better than those cheap plastic ones we were using for our dogs.</span>

<span itemprop="description">We bought this gate because others we had tried were tripping hazards at the top of the stairs. This one has no threshold bar, which means there's nothing to trip on. Also, the mounting brackets are high enough that we were able to fit it over our baseboards. Additionally, I like that the handle is operable with one hand, and that the gate swings shut to latch. Overall, it's versatile and user-friendly!</span>

<span itemprop="description">This is a fantastic baby gate! We tried one in the doorway right before the stairs and it’s perfect. We have a side split, so we could get away with not putting it directly at the top of the stairs, though it would be perfect for that too. We love that it has no bar at the bottom to trip on and when it is open, it looks like there is no gate at all. This also makes for a nice wide opening and not restrictive like some of the others out there, since it opens to the full width of the doorway it’s in. It is also easy enough to open and close by adults and not kids. I was unsure of the colour at first. However, once in my house, I totally get why they chose this colour. It’s great! It blends in so much better than a stark white or black. Our walls are a pale grey/blue for reference, so it’s not even as if I have a taupe wall colour. Install wasn’t very hard. I think some people may have said it was challenging, but if you are decently handy, you should be fine. We loved this gate so much we bought another one!</span>

<span itemprop="description">We just recently purchased two of these to go at the top and bottom of our stairs. I can’t comment on how they hold up long term but they seem sturdy and would be hard for a child to figure out how to open. The one thing I would say though is unless you have a flat wall to install it to at the top or bottom of your stairs (ex. We have trim as well as railing posts on the opposite side) it requires some additional wood piece etc to install properly. But I believe this would be the case with any stair gate. They should include an adaptor kit with them as I’m sure this is the case for the majority of people.</span>

This one my dog learned how to open it - she just bangs down on the handle from the side away from the wall and as she is standing/leaning on an angle away from the handle it ends up opening the gate. Also you can't lock the width solid - they slide. Not great. I have 3 other different gates (well 2 are one kind and the other is another one) for my dog (and grandkids) and the dog can't open the other ones.</span>
