When we took it out of the box it was very easy to assemble, you will need a Phillips screwdriver and 4 c batteries. After it was assembled I was a bit surprised that it was about 2 feet shorter than our Fisher price toddler hoop. But it is much more interactive. One of the modes gave my 3 year old son a concrete goal, such as making 5 baskets. The toy also can adjust for distance and baskets sunk and will come closer or mover father away to create a more enjoyable experience. My son had a lot of fun playing basketball with his dad and his older brother. We are a basketball loving family, so this was a fun surprise for my kids (and husband). It takes C batteries vs AA, so it sat for a day until I had time to run to the store, but my kids still shot baskets at it. It would be more fun if it also went side to side, but still fun with the forward and back motion. It has become a livingroom toy, my husband likes to sit on the couch and make shots. The sloped front is nice for a return as long as you make the shot.
