I have tried others with my children and the pieces would be pushed down quite easily with not much effort. This toy gives good resistance so the child has to work a bit more to get them down. The hammer is a great size for small hands and I love that they can learn colors and shapes while feeling different textures all at once! I was impressed with how sturdy it is and the pegs don't just fall to the other side when you turn it over. At first he just played with the mallet but once I showed him a few times he was able to hit the pegs all by himself. The mallet is also lighter so baby can swing it easily but not so light that it flexes when squeezed. It keeps his attention for awhile which is hard to do at this age. This revamped version of an old classic has brightly colored chunky pieces in all different shapes that your child can practice &quot;hammering&quot; essentially and then turn when all done and do again. The handle is wider on this newer version which makes in easy to grasp for little hands. This is a great toy to help develop hand eye coordination which is instrumental for children. As a mom of 3, one thing I can truly appreciate about this toy is that there are not a bunch of pieces that need to be picked up with this.
