The Freestyle Flex™ aims to help moms have the flexibility to pump anywhere, anytime, for 11% more milk. The pump can be shaped to fit all moms' natural breast shapes, and is compact, lightweight, quiet and USB-rechargeable so moms can express anywhere, anytime. And as a double pump, Freestyle Flex™ halves the time required to express compared to a single pump. It's also connected to the MyMedela app, enabling moms to track every pumping session, access expert tips and be part of a community of over 12,000 moms.

 • Double pumping with Freestyle Flex™ yields more milk in less time than pumping from each breast in turn.
 • 2-Phase Expression® technology mimics babies' natural sucking rhythm - faster at first to stimulate milk flow, then slower to feed for more comfortable and efficient pumping.
 • PersonalFit Flex™ breast shields can be adapted to fit your shape for individual comfort and increased milk flow.
 • Overflow protection (a closed system) prevents your breast milk from entering the tubing and motor.
 • Get connected - Freestyle Flex™ connects to the MyMedela app, to give you additional support and encouragement. You can use the app to track and log your pumping sessions, and create a personalized profile tailored to you and your baby.

It was a very short journey as I could barely get any milk; I'm talking like an ounce in an hour so I had written off pumping. I was sad and disappointed as my husband had really hoped to be able to help feed our daughter. In comes, the Freestyle Flex and boy was this a game-changer. I got 4 ounces in less than 10 minutes! While I didn't get a lot of done while pumping, mostly because I didn't have a special pumping bra, I really enjoyed not having a tonne of cords while I was pumping and it was a million times easier to wash and put back together than my other pump. With just those positives, this was a winning product in my books. Pros - The pump itself is very compact and easy to carry in a diaper bag. - The pump is relatively quiet and very easy to use. Just turn it on and hit start! - It's a closed system that gets top points in my books. - The battery life is amazing and it's easy to recharge the pump when you need to, you can even plug it in your car. - There are different sized flanges included, which was nice since I needed the 21mm. - There's a 10-second delay so you can get your set up and ready and not have to hit a start button. - I can pump one side or both sides - it's been super handy in making sure I don't have any blocked ducks when the baby decides she only likes to feed on one side. - It's so easy to wash and put back together, no more little white membrane like the other models. - The little cooler bag is a great add for when you're pumping on the go but I also used it as a little lunch bag for all the babies snacks when we were out one day. Cons: - You will need to purchase the pumping bra if you would like to be mobile while pumping. The carrying tote was a nice add on but I wish it was the pumping bra instead, without it you still need to hold the flanges on to pump. - The USB cord is short so I would recommend charging and then pumping if you're not close to an outlet. I would definitely recommend this pump to moms as it was a total game-changer for me! Thanks to Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this pump!
Date published: 2020-02-02

Rated 5 out of 5 by Amanda of 3 from Fan-frigging-tastic I love this pump. I've been using a Medela In-Style pump and have loved it for many years. My only issue with it was that to make it portable, I needed to use batteries. As a parent, there are never enough batteries around (thanks to my SIL for all those "fun" toys that take a million batteries each) so I was always stuck plugged into the wall. But when I received this pump as a part of the Stellar Product testing Panel, I was immediately excited for the ease of charging, the long battery life and that I can charge by USB on the go. Even though my little dude is 10 months, I'm still pumping once a day and this pump gets more milk, quicker, than my previous pump, which was also very fast. I'm excited that when I return to work, I can put the pump in my bag so I can pump during the day to relieve the pressure, but I don't have to lug an extra bag just to hold it. I did find that the new breast shield shape took a little time to get used to, but turns out I had been using the wrong size previously. And I'm excited that there's an app I can download to my phone to track my pumping time, quantity of milk, etc. Unfortunately my phone is garbage so I won't be able to use the app until I get a new phone (yay!). Honestly this pump is amazing. I don't have time to spend a lot of time pumping with a toddler and a baby, but this makes it so easy. I've used it while cooking dinner, sitting in the Costco parking lot, riding home in the car (don't panic, I wasn't driving, but honestly probably could have). I can't recommend it enough.
Date published: 2020-02-02

Rated 5 out of 5 by Bmckibbo from the holy grail of breast pumps! I was very lucky to receive this pump from the Stellar Product Testing Panel, because I really love it! I have used Medela products and pumps in the past, so it was amazing to receive such a high quality item to try. As all of their products, this pump did not disappoint. My last baby I would be stuck to one end of the couch, or near a plug in, pumping away. This pump has the freedom to move around, and actually accomplish things while you are pumping. In fact, I am literally pumping WHILE I write this review! The battery is strong, and I only have to charge it once every few days. I used it on a road trip, and at a friends house and everyone was impressed with how quiet and compact it is. Medela has really improved the design of the pump, and the cups are softer than their previous versions. I love this pump and it makes a difficult task, much, much easier. It is well worth the investment. After six months of using a bulky breast pump, I was thrilled to try something so discreet and portable. I had it all set-up and ready to go within minutes. It was very easy to assemble and I found the instructions easy to follow. The PersonalFit Flex shields offer a natural fit and I love that you can rotate them to find a comfortable position. I was struggling with my supply for months and I can honestly say the Medela Freestyle Flex SAVED me. I’ve been consistently pumping some of my highest yields, all while being able to do my laundry—my freezer has never been so full! One of my favourite features is the USB charging capability, which allowed me to charge the pump in my car and then use it as my husband drove us home from a date night! One full charge seems to last forever and it’s so refreshing to not have to find an outlet every time I need to pump. The carry-bag and cooler bag were handy on a recent day trip with our son and it kept my milk cold until I could use it. The only complaint I have is the rubber membranes can become dislodged and sometimes need adjusting during pumping. Overall, this is a powerful, efficient pump and it’s perfect for a busy, nursing mom. The bundle comes with everything you need, from bottles to a mini cooler and a carrying case. I found that super helpful on a recent vacation, I knew as long as I had all the pieces packed up I was good for the whole week. I also have a more traditional pump, but it's bulky and there was no way I was going to bring it along. Even at home, the freestyle flex is now the one I reach for more often since the smaller size and rechargeable battery makes it way more convenient. However, it is less powerful than my other pump, so I have to put it on a higher setting to get the same amount of milk as before. I think the size and portability make up for that drawback, but I'm also only an occasional pumper. If you were exclusively pumping you might need something more powerful to avoid being frustrated, or use this exclusively as a travel/on the go pump. I was given this pump to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel.
Date published: 2020-02-02

Rated 5 out of 5 by SP91 from Amazing portable pump This is a fantastic pump! As a busy mom of two this pump is a life-saver. It's light and so portable. Just this morning, I was able to pump for the baby, WHILE brushing my 3 year old's teeth! I never could have done that with my old pump. The pump is so light and small, it fit in my pocket. It's literally the size of an iphone or a tub of toothpaste. The pieces are easy to clean, and the pump is efficient and feels comfortable. I only wish it was around when my oldest was born, as I pumped exclusively for her (using an older medela model that wasn't portable), for a year. If I could go back in time, I would've bought this pump 10 times over. This tiny, powerful pump can enable an exclusively pumping mom to pump while still living her life, or a mom who wants to pump in addition to nursing, do so with less inconvenience. The fact that it's wireless and light, allows a mom to pump anywhere from a car, to a restaurant, to at work. It easily fits in my purse. The functions and use were easy, it quickly charged, and the option to charge this pump via USB is a great option for a busy working mom. I also like the new new personal-fit flex breast shields, they are more comfortable and a better fit than the old medela flanges. Lets face it, pumping is hard, annoying, and inconvenient. But the lightness and portability of this pump, make it so much more bearable, and this is the ultimate device for a mom who wants to do virtually anything while pumping. Pros: small, light, portable, easy to clean parts, simple to use, easy to charge- plug in to wall or charge via USB, can use wirelessly and fit it into a pocket, comes with great accessories (travel bag, cooler bag with icepack that fits between bottles, extra storage bottles, two sizes of flanges, etc.) Cons: expensive, part of the pieces are not transparent so you can't easily look down and see how much milk you've pumped, no option to clip pump onto yourself **Disclaimer: I received this product as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel, but would definitely have wanted to invest in this product.
Date published: 2020-02-02

Rated 5 out of 5 by Eriise from Compact and light without compromising milk yield! I was given this pump to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel a week before I was travelling 14 hours internationally with my 7.5 months old. I currently nurse and pump and have been since the beginning. For months 0-3 I pumped 2-3x/day building a freezer stash and then decreased to 1x a night to feed via bottle once my supply established. The other pump I have was great because it was quiet and could run on batteries (helpful when we had a power outage 3 times) but heavy with lots of parts to assemble. At 6 months my daughter started teething and would constantly bite me till it bled. I was scared to nurse her during the day so I have been pumping while my nipples recovered. When the Medela Freestyle Flex arrived, I was so excited at how light and compact it was. The design of the bottles is sleek and easy to read. It comes with a waterproof carrying case, extra storage bottles and even a cooler bag. The week before my trip, I tested the milk yield between the Medela and my other pump multiple times and it was the same. The Medela is relatively quiet and I love the pause function. It also has a Bluetooth function to the app but I never used it. It doesn’t have too many parts to assemble, really easy to clean. There are two little things I didn’t like about the Medela. One is that it doesn’t save last suction setting used. So each time you turn it on it defaults to the original suction settings and you have to turn it up each time (as well as when you change to expression mode). The other is how bright the screen was. It’s great to be able to see if pumping in the dark but I wish I could dim the light a bit more. Else taking this on my trip has been such a life-saver. I could fit the pump in my diaper backpack along with bottles and her essentials. It’s chargeable via USB and I could hang the pump over my wrist and walk around easier while tending to my now 8 months old without lugging around the giant thing. I’ve been pumping 5x a day on my trip and absolutely love this pump! I will be using it as my main pump when I return as well. And let me say I love this pump. I have actually tried numerous pumps and this one is the best by far. It is so comfortable and easy to use. My babes have always been big nursers and I have not been able to actually find the time pump, or nothing comes out. The Freestyle Flex was so compact and convenient I could take it on the go with me, or even pump while playing with my toddler. Not to mention it is the most comfortable pump I have used as well. Then there's the MyMedela App where you can save all your info and track your pumping. This would be so helpful for the mom that needs to keep track of everyting. It feels well made and the product design is very attractive, although I wish the breast shields were transparent so I could see the milk being extracted better. Conveniently, it uses USB C for charging, which is the same adapter I use for my phone and MacBook. And I like that the suction strength and expression/simulation mode toggles are on the touch screen, so they are visible if you're pumping in the dark! Some of my favorite things are that: - they've included a cooler bag WITH a bottle ice pack - the flanges have a soft silicone rim which makes a nice seal - the kit comes with bottle stands so they are less likely to tip over (thank you Medela!!) I wish they had included bottle nipples for feeding, as those are sold separately. And since I don't see myself using the included tote bag, I would have loved a pumping bra instead to try pumping hands free. I also found that the pump makes less noise if it's on a soft surface to muffle the vibration. The main deterrent for me would be the price point, but it is in line with other Medela double electric pumps, and for anyone unsure, I'd recommend checking with your insurance provider to see if they include breast pumps in their coverage to offset some of the cost. I received this pump from the Stellar Product Testing Panel, and I'm not pumping as often as when my babe was first born and I was having supply issues. However, I love that the suction strength on this pump is as strong as my much larger pump, and it's wireless, which would have been amazing when I was trying to pump while holding a squirmy newborn! It's also a closed system which is a must for me to make sanitation easier. This is definitely the pump I'll keep using and will recommend to my friends for whom it's affordable (and recommend getting a pumping bra and bottle nipples to go with it).
Date published: 2020-02-01

Rated 5 out of 5 by Kmac28403 from Best pump ever! This pump is an absolute game changer. I used a non mobile pump in the newborn days and upgrading to this pump has made life so much easier. The pump is so compact that you can fit it in your pocket and easily move around the house while pumping. I was able to put make up on and make a meal while pumping which was a big time saver. I found it incredibly easy to use and am a big fan of all the extra features! Being able to connect via Bluetooth to the Medela App means no more manual tracking of start and end times, what a relief! I also loved that there was a timer on the pump so I could always keep an eye on how long my session was lasting. The suction on the pump was excellent and I was able to get a good amount of milk which means the pump doesn't compromise on performance to achieve the lightweight mobility. The only thing I would improve is to be able to end a session immediately without a timing delay. Currently you have to press pause and wait a minute before the pump shuts off and the session is logged in the app. Overall I would highly recommend this pump and am so pleased that i received it from the Stellar Product Testing Panel because it has made my life so much easier!
Date published: 2020-02-01

Rated 5 out of 5 by Nina G from Great new pump! Huge thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this pump! As someone who has had a tricky time pumping in the past, this pump has been a game changer in terms of being a faster, more efficient way to pump and fill up my fridge and freezer. First, the pump is extremely easy to use: you simply charge the pump with the USB for a short amount of time, attach the pump to the bottles and away you go. Second, the ability to be able to pump both breasts at the same time, really cuts down on the overall amount of pumping time needed. Third, the pump fits easily into my purse which makes bringing it work or taking it to my family's house really effortless and convenient. Finally, I also found the noise from the pump to be fairly discreet, which is a great difference from other pumps that I've tried. I will say that in spite of my overall satisfaction with this pump, in order for it to truly be 'hands-free', you do have to purchase a nursing bra that gives you the flexibility to attach the bottles. Given how happy I am with this product, this feels like a small price to pay, however, it is worth noting the additional cost that is required to really make the pump, 'hands-free'. One small issue I've noticed is that sometimes the membrane that is attached to the pump doesn't fit quite flush so requires a bit of re-jigging prior to use. Other than that minor issue, this pump has been a gift in all ways...I even got to read an adult book while pumping...what a treat! I definitely would recommend it.
Date published: 2020-02-01

Rated 5 out of 5 by Stephanada from Pumped for this Pump! I was PUMPED to be selected to test this system by the Stellar Product Testing Panel as I was looking for an effective pump that could allow me a bit more freedom during sessions. I pump a minimum of 3x per day and I am very pleased with the Medela Freestyle Flex Double Electric Breast Pump. This is a high quality pump made of durable materials and, despite its small size, is very effective. Even for a first-time user, it is very intuitive and easy to get started. Essentially, all you have to do is select the right size shield using the instructions in the manual, attach all the parts, and you are good-to-go! And by “good-to-go” I mean it – the pump’s compact size and built-in battery meant that I no longer had to stay put while pumping. I used the Medela bustier (which I purchased separately) to maximize the portability and make the system truly hands-free, and in doing so had the ability to make and eat my breakfast without delay for the first time in 3 months. Normally, I would charge the pump using the wall adapter, but the USB adapter meant that I was even able to charge and use the pump while on a road trip! If you are like me, your diaper bag is practically bursting so it is really convenient to have the roomy tote bag that is included in the system to carry the Freestyle Flex pump and parts, burp cloths, bottles, etc. The pump itself has a built-in timer (that dings at the recommended 15-minute mark) and the ability to control the suction with 9 distinct levels which, from my experience with other pumps, is a huge bonus since you don’t have to choose between pain and little output. It has a 2-phase function where initially it uses quick suction pulls and then after 2 minutes it automatically begins slower and stronger suctions mimicking the rhythm of a typical breastfeeding child after letdown. If your letdown starts before the 2-minute mark, you can easily get to the second phase function by manually pressing the little letdown symbol on the pump. Of course you can change the suction level at anytime to make your pumping experience comfortable and effective. It is so simple! Another great feature is the complementary mobile app which records your pump sessions through a wireless connection. This is great if you want to track the trends in your pumping life! All you need to do is input the volume of milk and the app does the rest. Through the app you can also access content such as tutorials, tips, and even directly connect with a lactation consultant (for a fee). Needless to say, having tech like this at your finger tips is very convenient. As for the cons, I am not confident that the battery life stays consistent as I seem to get fewer pumps than I did after the first charge. Still, I get several pumps before needing to charge which is fantastic and even on low battery the pump’s suction power does not dwindle. Another thing I noticed is that Bluetooth disconnects if you move too far away from the app during pumping so you may want to remember to keep your phone close by if you want to record your stats live. The main issue with it disconnecting mid-pump is that is might reconnect and instead of picking up where it left off it restarts the in-app timer. A way to avoid this is to finish pumping before opening the app and it will push the data into it. Something minor I noticed is that the breast shield has an opaque part that may block the view of the end of your nipple disallowing the user to visually notice their letdown. Therefore, the user may have to guess that their letdown has begun by the sensation of it if they want to time there own instead of waiting for the automatic 2-minute function. This will likely not be a problem for a user with shorter nipples. Even though there are many pros for this pump, hands-down the best reason to invest in the Medela Freestyle Flex is for its transportability. However, for it to be a truly mobile pump, you would need to purchase the bustier accessory which allows for the shields to be held in place hands-free. Although you can also DIY your own bustier with an old sports bra and a pair of scissors! I fully recommend this pump for first timers or pumping pros!
Date published: 2020-02-01

Rated 5 out of 5 by Melanie S from Great compact pump with the option to double pump I received the pump as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel but all opinions are my own. As a mom of a 9 month old, I had tried pumping in the beginning but found that it took too long and that I wasn't able to get much milk. The Freestyle Flex Double Electric Breast Pump by Medela is easy to use and I was able to get more milk in a shorter period of time. The option to pump one side or both with one machine is much more convenient and the pump and accessories up less space than my previous Medela system of two pumps. I packed it for a trip to Florida and it took up less space than a pair of running shoes in my carry on. The ability to charge it via USB is very convenient at home and on the road. Though the pump does vibrate when placed on a hard surface, I found that it was still quiet enough to use at night when my partner and son were sleeping in the same room. The comfortable personal-fit flex breast shields must be held in place with your hands when pumping both sides, thus limiting your ability to do a hands-free activity while pumping. This disadvantage can be remedied by using the Medela Easy Expression Bustier, as mentioned in the manual that comes with the pump. I have not invested in the bustier yet but am tempted in order to be more productive while pumping. Overall, it is a great pump that does an efficient job. With returning to work soon, this pump is allowing me to build the freezer stash that I wish I had been able to have in order to have breaks from nursing.
Date published: 2020-02-01

Rated 5 out of 5 by SP91 from Great portable pump I received this product as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel, but would definitely have wanted to invest in this product. This is a fantastic pump! Pros: small, light, portable, easy to clean parts, simple to use, easy to charge- plug in to wall or charge via USB, can use wirelessly and fit it into a pocket, comes with great accessories (travel bag, cooler bag with icepack that fits between bottles, extra storage bottles, two sizes of flanges, etc.) Cons: expensive, part of the pieces are not transparent so you can't easily look down and see how much milk you've pumped, no option to clip pump onto yourself
Date published: 2020-01-31

Rated 5 out of 5 by Ltone from Amazing pump I was recently given the opportunity to test the Freestyle Flex Double Electric Breast Pump from Medela, and having a six week old I was anxious to increase my milk supply through pumping in addition to breastfeeding. Prior to receiving this pump I had been using an older model Medela breast pump that I purchased almost 4 years ago. The old model was fairly bulky and noisy so when the Freestyle Flex arrived I have to admit I was surprised by its much smaller size and weight; by itself, the pump is about the same size and weight as a small bottle of water! The smaller size is much more convenient and I am now far more likely to carry the pump with me when we go out; with the older pump I had found it a hassle to cart around, took it on the road only when absolutely necessary, and even then would often leave it in the car until I needed to use it. The main parts included with the Freestyle Flex pump are a USB charger, a “Y” suction tube, 2 connectors, and 4 curved breast shields. Compared to the breast shields I was previously accustomed to (which could be mistaken for kitchen funnels), the new contoured shields allow for a more comfortable fit of your breast, and you can position them in different ways to improve both comfort and suction. The pump charged in just a few hours, it is very quiet, has powerful suction, intuitive controls, and allows you to use it as either a double or single pump. Having tried both modes, I have found my own preference is single use mode, pumping one side while baby is on the other breast. Assembly of the pump is SO easy and can be done quickly: put the rubber flange inside the connectors (they only fit one way so it is hard to do it wrong), then connect the breast shield, attach a bottle, and finally plug the suction tubing into both the connector and pump itself. A single charge of the pump has lasted through multiple 30 minute pumping sessions. Although I haven’t needed it yet, I can see the ability to charge via USB being really convenient in a work setting, and I would be interested to see if the pump could be charged enough with one of those emergency power banks. Since I had an older model pump I checked to see which parts were compatible (having spares already clean, sterile, and ready to use can be handy on a hectic day). It uses the same bottles, and the old breast shields will fit the new connectors, but the new ones are so much better you probably won’t want to use the old ones. The old connectors, while they can be attached, don’t seem to function which is not really surprising or disappointing since the new design is a major improvement: the new rubber flange replaces the finicky little valve covers that were easy to damage or lose, and there does not seem to be the vent hole that occasionally allowed milk to leak out if you tipped it too far. Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this pump.
Date published: 2020-01-31

Rated 5 out of 5 by SP91 from Amazing portable pump! This is a fantastic pump! I used it almost every day for 2 weeks and started doing some afternoon bottle feedings as a 9 month old is easily distracted by a 3 year old! Pros - When I opened it, I was pretty happy to have a choice of two different suction cups and I tried both before settling in on the 24 inch (which was the same size I had with my first). I didn't expect much in terms of supply and the pump was able to easily get what was needed in 15 minutes, double pumping. I also really liked how compact it was, since I could pull it over my wrist, pump one side and go to the kitchen to get some water. The timer was also a great added feature, as I was used to being half awake while pumping! The charger is quite an improvement, as the USB port will likely make it easier to find adaptable outlets It fit really nicely into its travel bag and was easy to take apart and clean. Lastly, but perhaps most importantly, it was SO QUIET! I could actually watch TV and pump discreetly beside my husband. With my older pump I remember feeling like I was isolated, hooked up to my pump in my own home, unable to watch TV, be on my phone or even have a conversation with someone else. This pump takes that feeling away, especially if you have a hands free nursing bra. Cons - It is not as strong as I would have expected. The first expression phase didn't seem to stimulate any flow (whereas with my other Medela pump, it did) and so I would either sit through the 2 minutes, or skip to the second phase, which was more uncomfortable, but would stimulate the flow quicker. The newly designed suction cups seem to spill more milk than the originals, and so it was messier, and I needed a towel with me. I also miss the longer tubes as this one seems a few inches too short. I also downloaded the app but because I am in Canada, I didn't have access to the 24/7 LC support, which I think would have been an amazing benefit. I did go through the app but never ended up trying the Bluetooth feature, which might also be great for a FTM who would like to track pumping sessions. Overall, I think this would be great pump to use on the go, whether to work or on vacation, as well as regularly at home. Please note that I did receive this pump as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. However, I would happily have purchased it.
Date published: 2020-01-31

Rated 3 out of 5 by kendra_nyc from easy on the milk makers As a previous user of the Medela Freestyle, I was excited to try this product so I could compare the two versions. I couldn't believe how quiet it was when I turned it on for the first time - it makes less than half of the noise of the Medela Freestyle. I loved this feature for travel and pumping in bathrooms as it made me less self-conscious of pumping in public. I also noticed it is considerably more gentle on my nipples than the freestyle, which obviously is amazing! It's much lighter as well, so it's nice for travel. The biggest downside I found is that the motor doesn't have a clip to clip to your pants. This means that you never really can be hands free. I often used my old pump while brushing my teeth, getting ready for the day etc. and I couldn't do this while using it. This is a dealbreaker for me! There is a wrist strap, but I found that when I used it, it was really awkward and didn't actually let me go hands free. I also found that when I was doing stuff while using the wrist strap, I often accidentally turned off the pump or changed the settings because of the touch screen. I also found that the clips to seal the pump are hard to maneuver and I could totally see them breaking with extended use. I also don't like that the pieces aren't transparent, so it's hard to tell how much milk is coming out while you pump. This is a feature that I really liked on the Freestyle and used often. Overall, it's a great pump if you're okay with not being hands free. With a few improvements, I could see it being THE pump to use! I exclusively pump for twins and so I was excited to be able to pump without being tied to a plug. It even comes with a cooler bag that perfectly fits 4 bottles when you are on the go. This pump allows you to track your pumping sessions through the MyMedela app, but personally, I don't think I would use this feature. Positives: Very portable- I can do things around the house and pump at the same time while my babies nap. The USB charger makes charging fast and easy. I only had to charge it once per day. It was perfect for taking with me so I could pump when out and about. The new Personalfit Flex breast shields are comfortable and contoured to fit your breast shape. Negatives: The more I used the pump, the higher I had to set the suction level to express the same amount of milk. When removing the breast shield connectors, milk can leak out unless you lean forward. Bottom line: The portability of this pump makes it great for travel or for using on the go, but as an exclusive pumper, the suction isn't consistent or powerful enough to use for my every day pumping.
Date published: 2020-01-31

Rated 5 out of 5 by Michelle M from Lifechanging!! This pump is truly remarkable. Right from the moment I opened the box I was thinking - this is it?! The pump itself is so small and portable, approximately the size of a large television remote. I love so much that it has a cord so that I can hang it from my wrist and keep on going. It also fits in a larger pocket if you need your hands for anything! Just that aspect alone was so freeing, no more sitting in one place and being chained to a pump. Use of the pump itself is uncomplicated, I found the tubes easy to insert and the settings easy to manage. The suction on this pump is excellent and I had no issues expressing milk. I appreciated the different sized shields so that the pump will fit many women. I think the thing that I loved most was that this Medela pump is a closed system. No milk touches the pump itself and cleaning is a breeze without the concern of contamination or being able to properly sterilize for future use. The fact that it connects with the Medela app is a bonus. I found the app easy to navigate and it was full of helpful tips and tricks in addition to helping me track pumping sessions. I also need to mention, the cooler bag that comes with this pump is awesome!! The ice pack is molded to fit around the bottles and the compact size allows for easy transportation. Don't hesitate, get the pump! This pump arrived as I am breastfeeding my 13 month old, and I am expecting my second child in May so it will be getting a lot of use in the months to come! The biggest pro about this pump is its size. It is so small that I can carry it around in whatever bag I need to use for the day, and leaves room for me to carry everything else I need. I have found that every part of this pump is easy to clean, which is very important to me to be sure I keep my children healthy. The biggest perk of cleaning the pump: the pieces are dishwasher safe! The fact that this pump can be used without a cord is a huge game changer for me! I no longer feel stuck to one place while needing to pump. I can walk or change positions to keep comfortable while pumping. This pump is much for efficient than previous ones I have used. I am able to pump the ounces I need in less time, which means I have more time to spend with my child or to to get things accomplished around the home. The reason I have taken one star off is that with my previous pump I was able to lounge leaning back in a comfortable position but I found out quickly with this one that if you lean too far back, the milk can start to spill on your pants. Overall, this minor incident of spilled milk was not enough to make me dislike this pump. It is the best breast pump I have used, and I am so thankful to have found it before my next baby arrives.
Date published: 2020-01-31

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jen_31 from Easy to use and clean I received the product through the Stellar Product Testing Panel a few weeks ago and got started using it immediately. I had been looking at other electric breast pumps and knew Medela had the best ones as they'd been recommended to me by other moms. I was really excited to move from a manual pump to an electric one and boy how it changed my life. From being able to easily time and track my pumping sessions through their app, the pump itself wasn't obnoxiously irritating like others. You can adjust the strength of the suction to your preference and it comes with different cups to fit your size. Although I did read through the manual, it's still took me some trial and error to find the right suction strength and cup. But, it was a quick and clear read through the manual, everything is set up for clarity and also to find a fast answer to your questions. I didn't have to google anything as everything was in the manual. It's easy to clean and store, and the little carry on cooler that comes with it is simply awesome. We're planning on travelling to visit our families in the coming months, so the cooler was great to receive. I definitely recommend, anything that allows me to pump with one hand and breastfeed with the other is a win.
Date published: 2020-01-31

Rated 4 out of 5 by Shar819 from The Small But Mighty Breast Pump I'll start by saying that when this pump arrived on my doorstep I was giddy with excitement. From just opening the box it's apparent that this is a high quality pump with lots of great features and additions included. The pump is small and fits in a jacket pocket, so it's extremely portable but it is weighty and appears durable. I enjoy the touchscreen style display. It has 2 expression settings and lets you adjust the suction level according to personal comfort, but it wasn't complicated to work out. I love the timer setting on the pump because it makes it easy to keep track of my pumping session length without having to remember to set a timer on my phone – this is a simple addition compared to my previous pump but I found it makes such a nice difference. By far my favourite feature of the pump is how it's cordless so I can pump anywhere and not have to be connected to an outlet. The USB charging is also convenient, but honestly my pumping sessions are short and the battery lasts a long time so this hasn't been a major concern, but still a nice feature to note. At this point I have only used the pump at home so I have not fully utilized the included extras like the cooler bag and freezer pack, but I am excited to start using them shortly once I return to work. The tote bag will also be handy to carry everything in and isn't overly conspicuous that it screams 'breast pump bag'. The only addition that this breast pump is missing is the bustier to wear it as a double pump, hands free. I feel like this is a vitally important feature to the convenience of this pump because without it you can't really do anything or go anywhere as both of your hands have to hold it in place. I really wish it had been included as this would truly mean you can express whenever and wherever you choose with this pump. All in all, this is a great little pump that should easily last to the end of my breastfeeding journey (or perhaps for another child, but that's a different story). I really like how portable this one is, it’s very lightweight so I can hold it in my hand or stash in my purse. I don’t like lugging around another bag if I don’t have to so this was perfect for me. I love the updated breast shields. It’s very comfortable compared to the previous versions, it feels more flexible and the curve fits better. I also appreciate how the PersonalFit Flex connector fits perfectly with the Medela bottles. For some reason the Sonata pump connector disconnects from the bottle if I tighten it all the way, I’ve tried replacing the connector part and the issue remained. I don’t have this problem with the Freestyle Flex. The PersonalFit Flex connector seems easier to clean too! This pump was easy to use and charging it was a breeze, you can use the wall adapter or anywhere via USB cord. Super convenient! I wish it had a clip on the back so I can clip it on my pants and make it truly handsfree. The pump itself is incredibly lightweight and simple/intuitive to use. The suction was very good, my supply even went up using this pump. I would recommend this pump for anyone from an exclusive pumper or a supplemental pumper (like me!). PROS -Small - the pump itself is quite small, it easy to hold/operate with one hand, can fit in a purse -Chargeable - you don't need to be near an outlet when you pump, you can pump whenever/wherever -Closed loop system - less opportunity for bacteria to get in the system -Cleans easy - the parts come apart easily and are easily washed -Long lasting - one charge lasted me between 6-8 pumping sessions (10-12 min each) -Bottles - it fits the bottles for my provincial milk bank that I donate to CONS -Short cord - the charging cord is short so if you need to be plugged in while pumping you would need to be quite close to the outlet -Vague battery screen - the battery symbol is a simple three bars, this was too vague for me (how long will one bar last? This pump is truly hands-free. Life changing! Prior to trying the Freestyle I relied on my husband to help me with our daughter while I was “attached” to a wall power outlet with my pump. Since using the Freestyle, I can walk around the kitchen preparing breakfast, sit down and feed our daughter (and myself), and even fold laundry all while pumping! The unit is compact and incredibly light - it actually fits in my pocket. I love that it charges with a simple USB cable. The charge lasts for multiple pumping sessions; I was able to pump the entire week without having to recharge. The new breast shield design has virtually eliminated the need to readjust the shields in the middle of a session and they feel more comfortable overall. In addition to the pump, the Freestyle comes with a carry bag and a small cooler which includes four Medela bottles and a specially designed ice pack which keeps each bottle cool and made traveling with my (precious!) milk much less worrisome. Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this pump to try. If I had the option when my daughter was first born, I would have definitely invested in this pump over the alternatives.
Date published: 2020-01-31

Rated 5 out of 5 by Roxxie98 from Best Breast Pump for Working Moms The Freestyle Flex Double Electric Breast Pump is the best breast pump I have ever owned! I am heading back to work very shortly and was looking for a breast pump that would be easy to use in both the office and the field, and I’m ecstatic to say that I have finally found it! This pump itself is quite compact and comes with a carrying case that makes it very portable, so I don’t have to worry about lugging around a large pump along with all my field gear. I personally love pairing the Medela pumping bra with this pump so that during my lunch break I will be able to eat and pump comfortably hands-free in my work truck. In addition to the carrying case, it also comes with a small cooler bag that fits four bottles and an ice pack so I can be sure my milk will stay cold until I get home. I’ve also found the Freestyle Flex to be relatively quiet compared to other pumps I’ve owned, so I won’t be as nervous about interrupting my coworkers while pumping in my office. My overall favourite part about this pump is that it’s a closed system. I often had problems with milk or water entering the lines of my other pumps and always having to order more because they were so hard to clean and dry properly, but this closed system pump has a barrier that prevents milk from entering the lines and has already saved me a bunch of time and money not having to try to clean them out or buy new ones. All the components of this pump come apart very easily for relatively quick cleaning and drying - yet another perk for the working mom (components of one dissembled pump visible in photo). The charging ability is also a huge bonus for my type of work. I have found a single 2 hour charge is enough for me to get 3-5 pumping sessions - more than enough for a work day. It can also be used as a single breast pump (set-up for which is shown in photo) which I have found to be very helpful when I’m home breastfeeding and my baby decides she’s done nursing before I can switch her to the other breast. The only thing that I am not a huge fan of is the silicone around the flanges. Yes, it makes it more comfortable but I find that they become easily deformed after sterilizing if not dried perfectly flat. Other than that, I highly recommend this product to any working moms/moms on the move. Thanks to Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this pump.
Date published: 2020-01-30

Rated 5 out of 5 by J Gordon from Asboslutely Recommend! I pump milk for a friend, and had been using her older pump to do it. It was quite literally a labour of love, as I found her pump frustrating, slow, and slightly ineffective. When I received the Medela Freestyle Flex, I opened it and started charging it within minutes, very excited to try something new. The instructions for getting started were amazingly simple, and well written. Medela even has videos available online that are easy to follow, and incredibly helpful. I absolutely love this pump! As someone who intensely reviews anything before spending precious dollars (I want my money’s worth!), I can say in full confidence that this pump is worth the money. I have summarized the major highlights I have below: ⁃ The pump itself - so small and portable, it’s a dream to not be confined to living near an outlet to pump! This is easily the biggest pro for me! I have a very busy 3.5 year old who hated waited for me to pump during naps to get her own quality time with me. As you can see in my photo, I was able to pump one side at a time while freeing myself up to play with her. It’s a game changer! ⁃ Instructions are clear and easy to follow. As a bonus, like I said before there are videos online by Medela to help you get started if you hate instruction manuals. ⁃ The pump is very, very well made. Everything is designed and manufactured in a way to maximize effectiveness for pumping, but also for ease of use. Everything is very easily cleaned and assembled, making proper hygiene and sanitation a breeze. The pump is well designed and I found it easy to assemble even before reading instructions. ⁃ The timer - I LOVE that this keeps track of time spent pumping. I have found it very helpful to know as I’m keeping track of sessions. ⁃ The accessories - I love that everything actually fits easily into the provided bag. I can’t even say how many things I own that came with cases, where trying to fit everything back in felt like trying to repack a sleeping bag (impossible!). Not to mention the small cooler pack, perfect for transporting milk and keeping it stored properly! The only con I have come across at this time, is that for my personal needs I could potentially use a bit stronger suction. However, the pump has 9 levels, and I still did pump as much milk as with any other pump I’ve tried or used. Thanks so much to the Stellar Testing Panel for providing this pump for me to be able to try!
Date published: 2020-01-30

Rated 4 out of 5 by Angela J from A breast pump that you can actually use with a bus I fell in love with the Meldela Freestyle Flex Breastpump from the first time I used it. I have an extremely busy toddler and being hooked up to a breast pump that requires to be plugged into an electrical socket wasn’t even an option for us. Having the ability to pump freely, allow my husband to be involved in bonding with our son by feeding him via bottle and still be able to actively engage with my toddler throughout the day when I am home by myself with the kids, is so important in our household and allows the day to flow smoothly. The Flex pump didn’t add another ‘to do’ item to my list, but rather something I could do while I was busy accomplishing other daily tasks or reheating my coffee for the fifth time! Plus it is super easy to use and super quiet, which is nice if your pumping and holding your sleeping newborn (our little guy loves to be held while he sleeps.. the 4 month sleep regression is not easy)! The touch screen and USB charging are extremely nice features that I also really enjoyed, especially since we never ever have batteries in our house and this likely wouldn’t have been used as frequently if it was battery operated so the USB charging is a huge plus in my mind! It was great that on one charge, the pump lasted a long time (about 6, 20 minute pumping sessions) and could be tracked on the app because my mom brain is something else and there is nothing worse than having to do the dreaded check in public of which breast you last pumped/fed from. Although the collection vessels/bottles are still small and easy to travel with, it would be nice if Medela reconsidered the shape so that they fit inside an enclosed regular breastfeeding bra and pumping could be done anywhere and everywhere without being even noticeable and an extra pumping bra would not be required to be purchased (similar to competitors such as Willow and Elvie)..which would be awesome for moms who need to return to work early and pump in an office, moms with multiple kids who travel a ton or moms with inquisitive curious toddlers who may see something hooked up to moms body as concerning (take my daughter for example). This is my only suggestion for future developments, because otherwise this pump was amazing and I could not recommend it more, especially to moms with a busy lifestyle and more than one child! I thought I was satisfied and I knew what the pumping experience was with my solid, reliable pump. Sitting in my nursing chair plugged in to the wall, aimlessly staring at my phone. Then, Stellar Review Panel sends me the new Medela Freestyle Flex to review and my days are changed forever. Pros:
+ FREEDOM. Mom time is precious, this portable little pump tucks into the pockets of my leggings, hoodie, housecoat, etc, and I am on the move. I can cook, run up and down stairs doing laundry, do my hair and makeup before I leave the house. I can pump in the car on my way to the gym or meet friends. It is quiet and the battery lasts for two hours with a USB adapter which really helps when I am in a pickle.
+ The PersonalFit Flex breast shields are comfortable and fit well for strong suction.
+ EASY TO CLEAN and comes apart so easily in 4 pieces. The closed system means no milk in the tubing or backing up into the pump.
+ Option to pump one boob at a time. Sometimes I Pump one side while feeding my baby on the other, I simply just plug the second tube into the centre of the Y adapter and we are good to go.
+ Included along with the pump are 4 bottles with lids, two bottle stands, a freezer pack that contours the bottles, a cooler cube that fits it all perfectly, a carry bag that fits everything ( with extra room to fit my water bottle and snacks) I feel prepared leaving the house when I need to pump.
+ Easy to use touch screen allows you to adjust the strength, keeps track of how long you have been pumping and the bluetooth links up to the Medela app to help me keep track. I have enough to worry about being a new mom and it really helps me keep on top of pumping.
+ I found that I pump more milk with this set-up. I am not sure if it is the pump itself, the breast shields or the stress relief of having some freedom.

Cons:
- You need to buy a separate pumping bra to be able to use this hands free which can run you another $50 just for 1 bra
- The pump might be tiny but the bottles hanging off your boobs are anything but discrete. I am anxiously awaiting the day that Medela makes closed cups that fit in your bra. Pumping in the car is great but I could do without the looks from the barista at the drive through.

Thank you Stellar Review Panel for sending me the Medela Freestyle Flex Pump I never knew I needed. This pump is a game changer.
