No extra steps or anything which is awesome. It is really convenient. Also, its very basic buttons which is a plus because you can't get confused using it or struggle with it at all. The temp does jump around a bit if you read multiple times but it always stays around the same number so it is dependable for an accurate reading. Its very easy to read and glows when its finished reading. The batteries are triple A which is a common household battery and not a button battery which is very hazardous for kids. I am not sure if it automatically adjusts to where the patient is being read, but normal readings are much closer to 98.6 than with my other unit. Just set it up and you are all set to take your temperature. I prefer to use in the ear than the forehead but both seemed to be accurate and simple to do. I really like the digital reading so you can't mistake what the numbers are. There is no turn off button on this since it automatically shuts off after a certain amount of time. It did come with batteries which is another bonus. It was easy to insert the batteries when it is necessary in the future. I haven&rsquo;t tried it on food or liquids yet, but that seems like a handy function for parents with infants. I had another forehead thermometer, but it requires a swipe of the forehead. This is easier to use with squirmy toddlers because you just place in the middle of the forehead and push the button. I&rsquo;ve also used the thermometer in the ear to double check that the forehead reading was correct. Does not seem to be accurate when doing scanning. I kept getting temperatures way lower than normal body temperatures. I double checked the scanning feature by boiling water to a set temperature and then scanning it- was still a couple degrees off. I think the Ear temperatures seem to be more accurate. It&rsquo;s nice that you can use to check temperature of food before giving to kids. I hate the under the tongue method and greatly prefer that you can scan in ear or by hovering it above the forehead without having to have contact, potentially passing germs. It never made sense to me that a thermometer is typically used when sick and then you have to stick it in your mouth, potentially not cleaning it well enough and then getting someone else sick. I would definitely buy this product again. I havent been able to figure it out completely. A couple times when u have scanned my kids for heads I had to do it a few times to get an accurate read. First time or two checking it would come up as a way lower number. The ear read also comes up at a lower number. But I know this and I will keep that in mind. I guess it's not a huge deal and really helps to have a thermometer handy especially in the &quot;sick&quot; times we live in today. The thermometer says on the package that it can read the room temp but I haven't found that to be accurate either. But I have thought maybe because I'm taking it off the granite counter or the corner cabinet that it may have a chill to the device. Needs to warm up. My kids are older now so I'm not really checking the bath water temp or their food temp which this also claims to do. I wish I would have had something like this when I did need it! It's a great concept! Especially when warming bottles!
