Holds th baby tight so that I am able to move around while carrying her and still be hands free. It can also be used to help when I breast feed her and when in a public place or even at home with friends or family I can feed her while covered up. I purchased the slate color and it's a pretty gray fabric and does not show any lint. The wrap is so long that it drags on the ground when you start to put it on. This is not practical unless you put it on at home. My friend received a wrap that is one continuous loop that you wrap around you. This is so much easier to use when out of the house. No worry of the wrap touching the dirty ground or wet parking lot. The description in the little booklet is useless. Once you understood it, it doesn't fit at all. If your newborn is a little bit bigger, you can not use the recommended position for newborns. The material is soft and I'm sure it works great, but it wasn't for me. I had a nearly preemie baby 5.5lbs at birth. You cannot use this until they're 8lbs (? I can't remember) But my son wasn't the right weight till he was 2 months old and I needed something before then that would work. It was hard to figure out how to wrap correctly. I wanted something that I could put on quickly. My child hated his car seat and stroller, so any time we went on a walk or shopping, we used this wrap. It is very comfortable to wear (although sometimes a bit hot) and distributes the weight very nicely on my hips. It took about 3 tries to get the tying right and I watched a lot of online videos to get my wrapping style down. That said, I later learned this the bulkiest of babywearing wraps. It does NOT fit into the diaper bag, and generally sat in a clump in our backseat.
