I definitely would purchase these over the traditional flanges without a flexible rim. It came in handy when my little one wasn't using it and we were out and about. My little one liked the pacifier. He did seem to use it more to chew on then anything since his first tooth is coming in. When it came time to wash it I would use soap and water and then sterilize it in one of those microwave bags. I had been using the standard shields that came with my medela pump. By using the measuring guide that came with the shields, I figured out that I needed to go down a size! That made my pumping experience significantly more comfortable. I really loved the flex rim on the shields. They were definitely more comfortable than the standard. I didn&rsquo;t notice a change in how much milk was expressed, although I did notice my pumping time was faster!! (Which is a big win as a busy parent of a 2 year old and a 5 month old). I love knowing that there were no harmful materials used to make this! It really shows that as a brand medela cares. I gave this only 4 stars because the shape of the shield was a little awkward for me. I&rsquo;m pretty large chested and I felt that the oval shape made it a little hard to suction. These shields were more comfortable than the standard shields that shipped with my breast pump and I am a huge fan of the thoughtful construction without the use of BPA, latex, or phthalates. The overall size of the shield is also a bit more compact. I have been working hard to get milk for my baby and I don't want it contaminated on the way to his precious lips! The shield came with a helpful sizing guide, requiring only a ruler or measuring tape, and I found it to be very accurate for my body. I appreciated how the soft, white rim of the shield felt against my skin especially compared to the rigid plastic I have been accustomed to using. Though I did not see any significant change in the speed expressing or the amount of milk expressed, I felt more comfortable during the process, and I'll take a bit more comfort during this particular chore any day! I have been a huge fan of my Medela pumps for years. I found my FreeStyle pump and my manual pump to be what I responded to the best. I didn't know that my pumping experience could be better until I received these breast shields to test out. These are a total game changer and are now my go-to when pumping. I find these to be much more comfortable thanks to the soft rims and that I express more using these. I typically pump 2-3 ounces once a day (I exclusively breastfeed my son every 2 hours so he takes the majority of my milk) but with these shields I have been able to get an extra .5-1 ounces per session. This doesn't sound like a lot until you realize that means that my production has gone up an average of 30%. That really adds up over time! I also find that these shields stay put better and don't move around as much when I'm using my hands free bra. I have very sensitive skin and these breast shields do not irritate my skin at all. It is nice to know that Medela doesn't use any harmful materials in this product that could irritate my skin or leach into my milk. I don't think I can sing the praises of these shields enough. I guess I had never paid too much attention to how stiff my old shields were until I had something to compare them too. The Flex Breast Shield conformed more to the shape of my breast alleviating the stiffness that I am used too with my usual shields. They are so comfortable that I have switched to exclusively using the Flex whenever I can. I noticed a slight increase in milk production, probably because I am able to relax a little more without stiff plastic digging into my skin. But as I have continued to use them more I noticed that it actually takes off a few minutes from my pumping time as well. This is great because I am a working mom and 24 hours in my day is never enough and it&rsquo;s even harder to get things done when you have to attach yourself to a pump for a good portion of it. The softness of the Flex was definitely noted and appreciated. I wish the white portion was a little smoother because it sometimes takes extra time for me to insert into my pumping bra. Not a super big deal, I just have limited time and try to move as quickly as possible when setting up for a pumping session. I thought the fact that you could measure to see what size you are was very innovative. I was using a 24 in but the 21 was actually more comfortable so I was glad to be able to try the difference sizes. I would have never known I need a smaller one if it wasn&rsquo;t for these. The soft rubber on the edge makes them soft and comfortable and even easier getting them off. If you need to pump often, comfort is critical, and these shields made a difference for me. These are now my go to breast pump shields going forward! With that being said, I received these new breast shields free from WeeSpring as part of the Parent Panel to offer my review. Medela sent me a box of 4 different sizes. Within the box, they included an instruction page on how to properly choose the size to fit your breast. With that, I easily sized myself. When I first saw that shields, I was pretty impressed. It was the typical makeup of a shield with two noticeable differences: first, the rim has a more contoured edge and more oval instead of it being completely round. I assume that this was for a more natural shape around the breast. Second thing was the edge has a white, flexible, softer rim. I assume this was designed for more comfort. So, next step was to actually pump. I was a little excited because I pumping is typically uncomfortable. I placed the shield on my breast and I noticed a minute improvement of comfort. When I started the pump, any and all comfort dissipated. And honestly, I don't think anything will improve the comfort of pumping. I do like the fact that they offer BPA-, Latex-, and phthalates-free shields. I know a few women who are allergic to latex, so this would be an ideal option for them. I personally try to avoid BPA whenever possible. I did not notice any difference with how much milk I express when using these shields compared to my original ones I had, nor the overall amount of milk that I pumped.
