They are very durable with thicker plastic than other brands and a double zipper seal. These bags are able to withstand the freezing and thawing process without leaks! We have used various ways of thawing including placing bag in warm water and leaving them standing up in the fridge. Depending on how much milk you store in the bags determines how flat the bags will store. I find that they store flat the best at 4 oz or less. Although, at 6 oz I am still impressed at how well these bags not only flattened for storage but also at how well they protected the milk. Two features that I love are the simplicity of their labels and how easy air is removed while sealing the bags. My only complaint is how tough it is to keep the bags open with one hand when trying to add milk. However, once the bag is opened and a small amount of milk added, the bag is able to stand up by itself which makes the remaining process of storing milk easy. Some are brand name and another was a store brand. These bags are up there with one of the brands that I have used and really enjoy. However, because the other brand has a pump-into-bag capability, I can't compare these bags equally. I can say though, that these bags are great for what they were designed for, which is to store, freeze, and transfer out milk. First, the bags consist of a good quality plastic that are BPA free, which is a must for me. Each bag is pre-sealed, so there is peace of mind that these bags are hygienic and won't bring in contaminants to your precious milk. Second, the double zipper protection offers additional peace of mind that the milk won't leak out, even during thawing. Other bags have only one zipper, and I have had some leak issues if I was not careful about double checking and triple checking that the bag was sealed completely. Third, these bags store flat, which is a feature of other bags, but a nice feature to have when you have lots of bags to store in your freezer. The one downside I don't like about storing bags flat is that some milk always seems to get stuck around the zipped area once thawed. However, it is usually only a very small amount, and not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. The last feature of this bag that other bags don't do as well is the self-standing feature. It has come into handy when I have to pour my pumped milk from a bottle and transfer into the storage bag, especially when I am trying to do this one handed! I have never felt like the bag was going to tip over, even as I have come close to filling the bag to the full 6 ounces. It also easily stands itself up again once it is thawing in my warmer. This is probably my favorite feature of the bag. Overall, these bags are among the best storage bags out there. They are durable, easy to use, and have some of the best features that make pumping, storing, and thawing milk easier to continue doing. I would recommend these bags and will likely continue using them in the future. I like that there is space to write the date and amount of milk as the indicators are not always accurate depending on how full the bag is. The bag will stand up but I found it needs a little help in separating the sides first. It was easy to pour milk in to the bag from my pump bottles and then again into a bottle. I warmed the bag up directly in my bottle warmer which was convenient. I didn't trust the self standing when pouring milk into the bags. It's a great concept but liquid gold is too precious to risk. I wish it was like other bags and allowed for more ounces just because it's less wasteful. I get its a measured in a normal recommended serving size but I like to be able to store more in a bag and waster less bags. I was transporting milk to and from the hospital and didn&rsquo;t have a single leak nor did I have any leaks once home when thawing the milk from the freezer. The bags lay flat very well in the freezer making it easy to store more in a small space and the top is designed to make pouring it into a bottle a spill-less process. I was unable to do it with one hand but that was due to the bottle risking a tip over, not due to the bags. With so much going on it was great to be able to trust that these bags wouldn&rsquo;t let me down. The bags are made of a thick, durable material and feel stronger than other brands I have used. The measurements on the bag did not match the measurements on Medela bags. This is a problem I have had with other brands too, but I was hoping the measurements would be closer for bags and bottles from the same company. I appreciate that the bag is sealed and needs to be opened before you can pour in milk. Once I pour in the milk, I carefully squeeze out excess air, then I seal the bag with the double zipper. The double zipper is easy to close and helps me feel more confident that the bag is sealed securely. Then, I lay the bag flat on the freezer. While the bags are intended to be able to stand on their own, I did not test this feature since I didn't want to risk any spills. The bags seem like they would stand up fine. I was disappointed to see that the bags are made in China and hope Medela will consider making the bags in a different country with better quality control standards. I always check the place of manufacture for items that will hold or touch my children's food and am willing to pay a premium for safer products. The Medela bags cost more than other brands' bags that are not made in China, so I hope Medela will make this change in the future. I freeze them and then store them in old soda 12 pack cardboard boxes and it worked great. The double zipper makes sure that nothing spills out. I lay them flat in the freezer while they are in a complete liquid form and I never had any spills. I'd then defrost them by placing them in the refrigerator and I again never had any leaks. Pouring thawed milk out of them into bottles was easy (I use the flange from my pump as a funnel and it is super easy!). Pouring into them from the pump bottles is also easy. The bags stand on their own, and while I never tried it hands free, I could definitely pour with one hand and use just one hand to keep the bag steady. Never had any leaks or issues with the bag's quality/durability. I also like that the top has plenty of room for me to put the info about the BM on it - date, time, amount, etc. All in all, the Medela BM storage bags are my favorite. I prefer them over lansinoh (never had any issues, just these felt more durable/thicker so made me feel better) and stored WAY easier and took up significantly less space than Kiinde bags. The only great part of these breast milk storage bags is the ability to pour the milk from the bag into the bottle with one hand without spilling a drop. When you&rsquo;re the one preparing the bottles, then this is an amazing. However, I&rsquo;m not the main preparer of bottles &amp; mostly pump during work &amp; traveling. The not so great... still need both hands to pour milk into the bag after pumping (I was REALLY disappointed about this) and I&rsquo;ve had milk easily push above the seal when I&rsquo;m closing them. Lastly, the better part... they easily stand up on there own with even an ounce of milk in them, less punctures with the thicker plastic &amp; they don&rsquo;t have the weird flaps to maneuver around when pouring the milk. I absolutely love how these bags stand on their own while filling them which also makes it easier to pour the milk out when it&rsquo;s time to use it. By squeezing the top corners, you are able to make the opening wide for easy milk transfer; the bags I was previously using had such a large flap on top of the zipper that was constantly folding over getting in the way of pouring milk in and out. I have spilled so much less milk since using these bags!! Pros: -thicker, sturdier plastic makes the bags always stand up even when not all the way full -because bags are sturdier, transferring milk in and out is easier with significantly less spilling -tougher double zipper at the top for added security (although it does make them hard to open with one hand like when carrying your baby and trying to multitask) Cons: -they don&rsquo;t lay as flat when freezing compared to the other bags I was using. However, these bags are far superior in every other way that this does not bother me enough for me to stop using these bags or to even taken them down a star notch when rating. I freeze the bags flat and they thawed quickly and still stood great frozen. I love how strong these bags are, they truly are ideal for freezing. The bag was durable, and would resist holes and punctures like I've experienced with different brand bags. The bottom was a bit thicker than other bags, as it stands up on its own. It more or less laid flat for storage, though the bag remained a bit thicker at the bottom. Liked that the bag stands up on its own to pour and is stable enough to support the bottle, so you can store every drop of that liquid gold. Careful, you need to hold the bag, push the bottom open slightly, and pour a bit in before you set a bottle on top. Material made it easy to remove extra air before sealing closed. The top was a little difficult to press closed, but that probably means it stays closed securely once you get it closed. Measurement is listed as &quot;approximate&quot;. I'd measure in my bottle if you want it accurate. I tried repeatedly- sometimes the measurement was close. I was pouring in 4.5, and the measurements with the bag appeared to range from about 4.5-6. The plastic used in the bag is thicker than other bags that I have used which gave me confidence that this bag will hold up to whatever I need it to, and so far it has! I'm a first time mom and I am a moderate pumper, breastfeeding most of the time and pumping for the rest. When I have to be gone all day long, these bags have been so dependable, which is very helpful for a mommy on the go! The side and bottom seams were a lot thicker than other bags I've used, which I think helped to keep the bag from leaking between freezing and thawing. Though I sometimes had to coax the bottom of the bag into opening with my fingers when first pouring the milk into the bags, the self standing feature was nice for preserving the milk and helping to prevent any accidental spills. I found it pretty easy to pour milk into and out of the bags as well. I mainly use a Freemie pump and those can be tricky sometimes to pour from, but I never had a problem with these bags. The double zipper feature is nice but was sometimes a little difficult sometimes to click into place if I was in a hurry. However, once it did, there was no way any milk was coming out of that zipper! Those are some strong zippers!! The bags easily froze flat and I was able to quickly thaw and warm the milk to my little one's preferences. I also really appreciated all of the helpful tips on the storage bag for the milk bags. Especially the temps needed to keep the milk good. So helpful for any sleep exhausted mombie! The big and clear the numbers on the bag itself were also supremely helpful. There are very clear directions everywhere. They also put the oz on the left side instead of the right, unlike the bags that I was using. Made it easier for my American brain to see how much milk was in the bags! Lastly, and I know this is a weird thing, but I loved how the top tears straight off when you tear open the milk bag. My inner OCD rejoiced! So often when you have to tear open bags, they tear at angles, they don't tear evenly, it is just not tidy. But these tore straight every single time. The idea of having any extra milk to freeze seemed like a pipe dream. Because of my early struggles, I am extremely protective of my milk, and was nervous to even freeze any. I should not have worried--these bags are SO secure and I feel confident my milk is safe. I like the slick, thicker material of the bag. Some milk storage bags have felt like nothing more than a plastic baggie (which is terrifying!), but these feel like professional, industrial strength plastic. The double-zipper was a nice feature, and I like how they are close together, so I can still close the bag with one hand/swipe. The self-standing feature was nice, but it only worked when there was milk already in the bag (if it was empty it still just fell over). So I would have to hold the bag up and open for the first pour from one pumped bottle, then I could just hold open the top for the second poured bottle. When I poured the milk out from the bag back into a bottle for feeding, I could pour one-handed, which was helpful. Plus, once the milk was in there, I could store them standing up in the fridge--which I frequently did because my daughter would need them before they had a chance to be frozen. The bags were able to freeze flat when there was less than 6 oz in the bag. I've included a side-by-side picture of the bag filled to the recommended maximum capacity of 6 oz and frozen and a bag that has 3 oz frozen for comparison. I personally don't have much need for the bag to freeze entirely flat, as I don't produce enough to be stealing any storage space from my frozen pizzas, so that feature wasn't high up on my list of importance. It was easy to thaw and use the milk--I put it in my bottle warmer and it heated up to serving temperature from frozen within a few minutes. If I had to pick a favorite feature (which is hard, because I really love these bags!), it would be the security of the bag. I bring the bags back and forth from work each day in my lunch box, and they haven't once had issues with spilling or leaking. I've already ordered more for when my complimentary sample stash runs out! There are several things I really like about the Medela Breast Milk Storage Bags especially when compared to other products on the market. First, each bag comes pre-sealed to prevent accidental contamination prior to using the bag! At first I thought this would be a burden because I imagined it would require scissors to open the seal, but it can actually just be torn open by hand! I also like these bags are food grade material and BPA free. Also, I like that the package comes with an extra sealable bag that is large enough to carry the storage bags in while on the go. While traveling for the holidays, it was so convenient to use this transport bag (which lays flat) instead of having to bring the whole box that they came in. Additionally, these bags are super durable and feel much thicker than other brands. This is important to me because it&rsquo;s much easier to pour the milk from the bag to the bottle since it&rsquo;s not at all flimsy. Even though the bag is thicker, I was still able to follow the same guidelines for putting this in the bottle warmer. I also like that the bag has a double seal to prevent leaking, especially while I stored them flat in the freezer. The Medela bags also stand upright better than other brands and have a larger area to write info at the top of the bag. But, you must use a permanent marker to write on them. I made the mistake of using a gel pen on the first one and the writing smeared. It&rsquo;s a bonus that these bags hold 6ozs, many other brands only hold 5 ozs. Even though they hold more milk, they thaw surprisingly quickly! When using these bags, it clearly says do not overfill, but I accidentally put more than 6 ozs in one and it broke while frozen, but I didn&rsquo;t notice it til after I thawed it. Lastly, these don&rsquo;t lay as flat as some other brands, but I think it&rsquo;s because of how thick the Medela bag is.
