I found that the cream certainly did what it was intended to do. I used it for my first few weeks of nursing and it quickly soothed my sore and chapped nipples. I even used it on my dry hands! I really like the fact that it is completely natural and safe for babies (so it doesn't have to be removed before feeding). The only downfall to this product is that it is quite sticky to apply. It's not exactly something you would want to/be able to rub in, as that would hurt already irritated skin. I ended up just dabbing it on the areas, and that worked for me! It doesn&rsquo;t require a thick layer to be effective so the small tube will last a long time. Of course, it&rsquo;s a huge plus that the product is all natural and safe for babies. I definitely noticed improvement on my skin immediately. For example, dry patches fully recovered within just a couple of uses. The only thing I wish was different is the packaging. Well, Medela has a new product that can at least help with one of the more common issues we face - the dreaded cracked and sore nipples! I was asked to try Medela&rsquo;s new Purelan Lanolin Cream by the Stellar Product Testing Panel, and let me tell you, it&rsquo;s a keeper! This 100% natural lanolin is hypoallergenic and contains no preservatives, meaning it&rsquo;s safe for you AND your baby. No need to wipe it off before feeds or worry about what you&rsquo;re putting into your or your baby&rsquo;s body. It has a very mild scent and goes on smoothly. Though it is thick, it does not feel sticky like other lanolin creams I&rsquo;ve tried. While this is meant to treat those sore, cracked nipples, it&rsquo;s also great for dry skin! Anyone who has to endure Alberta winters like me knows that the winter months can be harsh on our skin. I&rsquo;ve used Purelan on my cracked knuckles and chapped lips at bedtime and they were better by the next morning! (Truthfully I&rsquo;ve probably used this more for my dry hands and lips than my nipples). I brought it with me to the hospital and it was honestly the one product I used the most while there! After nursing non-stop for the first 48 hours after the birth of my daughter, this cream helped soothe my sore, cracked nipples in between nursing sessions. Some creams you need to remove before nursing, but thankfully that&rsquo;s not the case with Medela&rsquo;s Purelan which made it so much more convenient. I had a cesarean section, so moving after delivery was not easy. I needed something that I could put on and not have to get up to go to the bathroom and wash off before a nursing session! I will say that the cream is pretty thick, which wasn&rsquo;t always the easiest to rub in when your nipples are super sore and sensitive to touch, but it&rsquo;s also the creams thickness that really helped to soothe and repair the cracking so that&rsquo;s kind of a double-edged sword. In addition to using it on my nipples, I also used it as a lip balm (you&rsquo;re lips get SO dry due to the hospital air!) and it worked fantastic as a lip balm - Honestly better than the actual lip balm I had also brought in my hospital bag! It made my lips soft and hydrated for hours whereas my &lsquo;usual&rsquo; lip balm lasted an hour if I was lucky. My daughter also frequently had to get her heel pricked every few hours while we were in the hospital (this was in order to check her blood sugar as I had developed gestational diabetes during pregnancy) and her poor tiny little feet were so dry and cracked from the alcohol swabs they were constantly using on her before pricking her, so I also used this on her heels which helped the dryness and cracking and it worked so well for her I decided to use it on my own heels as well! Overall, I was very happy that I got so much use out of this and so glad that I thought to pack it in my hospital bag! I would highly recommend any expecting mama also bring it with them to the hospital!
