I have used similar items before, but this one had some great extra perks that I&rsquo;ll review later. I always recommend a silicone breastmilk collector to any breastfeeding mom. It&rsquo;s a great way to start saving milk before actively pumping and collects the let down from the other side instead of having it go wasted into a breast pad. If you really compress the collector before placing it, you can even get a couple of oz of milk to store! This is a great way to start a freezer stash without bringing out the big pump and sitting there for 15 minutes. I really love that this is used while you are feeding your baby and you have milk saved after a normal feeding that you would sit for anyway. Medela has stepped it up and added some features that really help with the use. Their collector comes with a lanyard, suction bottom, breast milk stopper, and a lid. Others only come with a lid. The lanyard I felt was unnecessary. I didn&rsquo;t really feel the need for it and then when the collector came off it was annoying to have to take the lanyard off before being able to set it down. However it&rsquo;s super easy to take off and the rest of the features are so helpful!! The suction bottom was genius. I have knocked over other collectors before and watched all that precious milk go everywhere. This suction stops that from happening. The milk stopper was also reassuring to place in there, just in case. I also felt comfortable placing it in the fridge with the stopper. The lid was a little hard to get on, but with the stopper I wasn&rsquo;t as concerned. The collector is a little confusing to start with. You have to find the right angle so baby doesn&rsquo;t knock it off and find the right suction so it doesn&rsquo;t fall of. I do think there is a fair amount of trial and error getting it adjusted, but it&rsquo;s so easy and mindless once it&rsquo;s on. Once you have it placed correctly you don&rsquo;t have to think about it again until you take it off. Also there isn&rsquo;t active pulling on the nipple, so it&rsquo;s more comfortable. Upon opening the package, I was exited to see many features to help prevent spilling milk. The stopper is nice to take in and out as needed. The silicone lid is even more secure than the stopper and great if you want to store the whole pump in the fridge. The neck strap is a feature I have not seen on silicone pumps in the past. It hooks to a loop built in to the silicone and the strap can be easily adjusted to the exact length you need. While this feature was interesting, usually I don&rsquo;t take the time to hook it up, as I find it gets in the way. I am an over producer and tend to fill the pump and have to pour it out part-way through and found dealing with the strap a hassle. If you are using this only as a milk catcher for a couple of ounces, I could see this strap being more beneficial. During the few times I did use it, when I lost suction, it did hold the pump up and upright enough to keep from completely spilling, although it did not completely eliminate some minor splashing. My favorite feature of all is the suction base. For the life of me, I could never understand why other manufacturers ever made a one piece pump similar to this and made it have a roundish, slightly flattened base with no suction. That is just asking for it to be knocked over, which I have done many many times. Not only devastating to lose your precious liquid gold but also creates a sticky milk mess on your table, carpet, sofa, etc. The suction base on this is fantastic and sticks quite well to every flat/hard surface I have tried. The pump itself is very similar in design and feel to other silicone pumps I have used, although this one feels slightly more rigid or thicker material. I think because of the sturdier silicone, it seems to have a higher suction when properly attached to the breast. This can be a good thing if you want to pull as much milk out as quickly as possible, but if you have sensitive nipples or breasts, it can make them a little sore. Overall, I really like this pump and the many features it offers at an affordable price. To get the same features on items of a similar brand, the price goes up for each feature added to the base product. This is absolutely a better value than others I have used. As long as you are ok with a more aggressive suction, I whole-heartedly recommend this product. I use mine multiple times per day. It took a few tries, but I think I finally figured it out, and get easily two ounces of milk when I first nurse my daughter in the morning. The trick is just to make sure to be careful to center your nipple in the opening. Beware, if it&rsquo;s not centered, I find it slightly painful. I love the spill stopper, because every mother knows how frustrating it is to pump, only to spill those precious drops. Really, the only thing I dislike is the suction cup base. It isn&rsquo;t really strong enough to prevent it from tipping over if bumped. It does keep it standing upright, but only if left untouched. Thankfully the stopper does it&rsquo;s job, and I&rsquo;ve never lost an milk because of a tip! This milk collector is very helpful. A lot of milk can be wasted if not using something like this. At first I thought the collector was on the small side- meaning it looked like it didn&rsquo;t hold very much milk. I actually ended up liking this size because it is easier to manage on the one side while holding the baby and breastfeeding on the other. If it was larger, it could be hard to have it attached while holding the baby against my body to feed. It also holds plenty of milk, so there is no need for it to be larger as I originally thought. I also appreciate that this kit comes with a stopper and a lid, both are helpful depending on what I need in the moment. The suction base is extremely helpful so it doesn&rsquo;t spill when setting it down to situate baby at the end of a feeding. The only part of this kit I didn&rsquo;t care for is the lanyard. It seemed a bit awkward to wear it around my neck, and I prefer to carry it and then set it on the side when I&rsquo;m done using it. I&rsquo;m sure some people would like this feature, I just did not find a need for it. If you haven't used one, you simply attach it to the breast your baby is not eating from, and it creates a gentle suction which draws out the milk from your letdown and additional milk as your baby nurses. Using this collector, I was able to collect 1-2 ounces of additional milk per feeding without doing anything, which is great for building my freezer stash. There are other brands out there that have a version of the same thing, and The Medela one is new to the market, but I think the Medela collector works as well as those other brands. That said, it also has some of the same issues. For example, depending on how you hold your baby while nursing, it can be difficult to position the collector without getting in the way of your baby. In some ways, I wish Medela had been more innovative in creating a product that doesn't hang down awkwardly. The lanyard does help with this, though, because it keeps the milk from spilling when the collector comes off. Overall, it's a good product, but I'm looking forward to seeing what improvements can be made in future versions. One of my favorite features is the suction bottom and full cover. The suction helps keep the collector secure in case it accidentally gets bumped - I&rsquo;ve knocked over other collectors and it&rsquo;s the worst! The full cover is a really great product- it makes me feel better about keeping milk fresher when in the refrigerator and you can add more milk than just using the stopper. One of the accessories is a strap you can attach to the collector and wear during nursing. My little ones&rsquo; feet have knocked off milk collectors in the past and it&rsquo;s so frustrating to lose so many ounces of milk. The strap helps stop the collectors from falling completely. While my little one would sometimes try and grab the strap and it did come unattached once, it helped save some milk that otherwise would have went all over me and the floor! It caught all the leakage from my letdown while my son was eating on the other side rather than my bra/shirt. The silicone is soft and extremely easy to use. It was simple to achieve and maintain a secure suction, and it did exactly what it was supposed to do - save otherwise wasted breast milk. Wonderful product! I am also really glad that I can clean this using the same microwave steam bags I use for my breast pump parts. This made cleaning a cinch! I'm not a big fan of things around my neck, so the lanyard really wasn't for me. I get it's purpose and think it is a good idea, but it just wasn't for me. So, with that being said, there are a couple things I would've really liked to change/add. First, I would like the ability to either hook it to my bra for added security, or for it to easily fit into my bra. Maybe the shape of the bottle would've fit better into a bra if it was like a flat flexible disc-like shape. The other thing, would be the ability to attach a bag to or in the bottle, like a liner, to make transferring the milk and cleaning even easier then it already is. Neither of these things take anything away from the product itself, it is more so a personal preference. This product does exactly what it was designed to do, so these should not be construed as a con. At the end of the day, this is an awesome product that was designed to practically and effectively save breast milk and it does just that! It is similar in basic function to other milk collectors on the market, but it has a few new features. It has a suction cup bottom, to help keep it from tipping over. I didn&rsquo;t really care for this feature; I had to use two hands to loosen the suction and pick it up or else it would come suddenly and throw the milk everywhere. It also has a removable neck lanyard. The idea behind that was to keep the collector suspended if it gets full and drops off or if your baby kicks it. What I found was that the lanyard got all tangled with my hair and I spilled milk on my baby trying to get the collector off. Then it had a plug and a lid. The plug works well; I do like that feature. The lid however is completely useless. It is hard plastic and the collector is soft silicone, so when you pick it up it squishes a bit and the lid pops off. Since there&rsquo;s already a plug that actually works, I see no reason to ever use the lid. Overall, this works about as well as any other silicone milk collector. I typically use this on the opposite breast I&rsquo;m nursing from. My little one tends to kick and squirm which can cause me to move and the collector to pop off. I can&rsquo;t imagine how much milk I&rsquo;d loose if I didn&rsquo;t have the lanyard on! I also love suction base. It allows me to set the milk collector down without fear of it tipping over. The only reason I gave this product 4 stars instead of 5 is because the flange is a bit stiff which makes it a bit difficult to get a good latch on the breast. This is one of the best I've used. There's nothing worse than pumping or collecting several ounces of liquid gold only to spill it all over the counter. I love all the spill protection features of this collector. The suction cup on the bottom and the stopper and cover ensure that it won't get tipped over or spilled accidentally by a busy toddler while I'm occupied with my baby or fumbling around in the dark at night. I want to love the lanyard, but my baby just wanted to play with it so I didn't end up using it. The collector itself is soft and comfortable to use and the suction is strong enough to extract plenty of milk. The only downside is it's a little bit heavier than similar devices of other brands. Since there is no motor, it's silent and perfect to use for collecting excess letdown during night nursing sessions. Using this device only my during night nursing sessions, I've been able to build up a small freezer stash effortlessly that will come in handy when I go back to work. When we received it my husband made the mistake of stating &ldquo;it looks just like the others&rdquo;. It is far from it! The reservoir for the milk is slimmer, which makes it easier to clean the sides after the milk has separated and the fatty portions leave residue. I am guilty of forgetting I have left milk in the fridge for days so this saves me a lot of time! The Medela breast milk collector also keeps a suction regardless of the size of my breast. I can be engorged as my baby&rsquo;s schedule changes and starts to nurse less. I also have times when he goes through growth spurts and I&rsquo;m not sure how my milk supply keeps up leaving my breasts much smaller and empty. No matter the size or situation, Medela has designed this breast feeding accessory to easily suction and keep my milk coming! All of the accessories that it comes with are incredibly handy. I have been known to cry over spilt milk a time or two, but Medela included multiple &ldquo;milk safety&rdquo; features! As babies get older the move a lot more, and my son loves to kick and play with his feet when he starts to get a full tummy creating a perfect storm for an entire 3oz full collector to be kicked off. The lanyard mitigates the risk of losing all my extra milk and having to scrub the carpets! Another important suction point - the secure suction base. You don&rsquo;t have to try to make it suction - it just stays put as soon as you put it on the counter! Add the stopper and lid to it and again, it has saved me from spilling all the precious liquid. The only downfall to this silicone breast milk collector is that I am not able to nurse in public while using it without a breast feeding cover. I use mainly breast feeding friendly shirts but in order to not have it show I would need to use a cover as well. That works alright when a baby is small and doesn&rsquo;t care about being covered, but my 10 month old would not enjoy that - especially in the heat of the summer! I have collected so much milk using this silicone breast milk collector that I do not have to use an actual pump anymore! It is so easy to use, quiet, and compact that I can stick it in my diaper bag to take with me! And once it is full, I can put the stopper and lid on, place it right back in my diaper bag to take home! The suction portion gives me a sense of peace as I am trying to juggle a million other things as a mom. I also enjoyed using the white cap cover for the collector because when I am breastfeeding at 2 AM in the morning, this product helped me get to bed faster and get more sleep. I just covered the collector and put it directly in the fridge. I was able to use the neck strap and it did make me feel more secure about not losing the liquid gold if the baby ever kicked me. The one accessory that I did not use as much was the yellow stopper. I tested it with water to see how secure it was and it passed the test. I would recommend using it but I preferred using the white cover more. I highly recommend this breastmilk collector since it saves me about 2 ounces during night feedings, when my baby would only feed on one side. Since I am a working mama, this a win in my book. I've tried both this and another brand of milk collector while breastfeeding, and this one has some nice features but doesn't quite make it to the top of the pack. I really like the stopper, lid, and suction cup bottom features of this collector. They're all really handy for preventing spills and storing milk directly in the fridge (for short periods of time) after collecting. The lanyard / neck strap feature is a bit of a challenge, as my 3mo loves to grab onto anything in reach and pull as hard as she can, which in turn makes it a bit of a liability. However, this collector doesn't hold suction on my breast as well as some others do, which means that it really does need the neck strap because it might drop off at any moment. I'm not sure if it's the shape of my breast or the weight of the milk in the collector, but it is a problem if you try to use it without the strap and it suddenly falls off. While I'd say the collector stays put about 90% of the time, that 10% can be a problem! I haven't had this issue with other breast collectors. I definitely recommend using a breastmilk collector in general, and finding the one that works for you. Medela has solved all the issues I had with my last milk collector. Some mornings I wake up super engorged with milk, and when I try to feed my baby on one side the other side leaks like crazy. This milk collector suctions on and collects all that milk that would have otherwise been wasted into a nursing pad. As the collector fills it tends to lose suction and become susceptible to falling off (or being kicked off by my baby) so the lanyard keeps the collector from dropping on me/the couch and spilling! When I&rsquo;m finished, I use the stopper and then the lid for when I store it in the fridge. I tested the lid and nothing spilled, but I wouldn&rsquo;t suggest traveling with it unless you used the stopper and lid together. I love that I can collect the milk then put the lid on it and use it later that day. I will say that with having an 8 month old, I do have to keep a hand on the collector or my baby will kick/hit it off so the lanyard is not useful to me, but if I had this when she was younger, I would have been all about it.
