I've used a similar product over the last few months, but it had become unusable as my son became older and kept kicking the breast milk collector off, spilling the milk. Then enters the Medela breast milk collector with the neck strap and plug. The neck strap has kept the collector from spilling while in use. It really is hands-free. The plug is a quick and very efficient way to prevent spills. The suction on the bottom works well to keep my 4 year old from knocking it off the table. My only critique is that the lid doesn't feel as well secured, but this doesn't matter much since I use the plug simultaneously. I'd highly recommend this all new breastfeeding moms. The milk collector is made of a heavy silicone and comes with a lid, a stopper, and a lanyard. I have been using similar products for years and what I love most about this milk collector is the suction cup base. I typically use my milk collectors for the very first feeding of the day so I usually keep it on my nightstand until I&rsquo;m ready to use it. The problem is I don&rsquo;t have much room on my nightstand with everything that is on there so it&rsquo;s super easy for me to accidentally bump it and knock it over. But with the suction cup base I don&rsquo;t end up spilling it if I do accidentally bump it which is fantastic because no one wants to spill liquid gold. The stopper and lid are great for storage however I find myself just using the stopper most of the time because I transfer the milk into a storage bag. This milk collector is a great way to collect breast milk and build your freezer supply with out having to sit around for a hour and pump. I attached it to the opposite breast I&rsquo;m feeding on and collect my letdown, typically getting 1-2oz when I use it. The silicone of the collector makes it very easy to clean so it&rsquo;s ready to go for the next session. The two things I didn&rsquo;t care for on this collector was the lanyard and the thickness of the silicone. The lanyard tended to get in the way when I was trying to apply the collector and the position of the loop to hook it on to made it so the rim of the collector doesn&rsquo;t stay back on its own which typically helps when applying it with one hand, which is usually how I&rsquo;m using mine since I have a baby on the other side. The thickness of the silicone made the collector a little heavy and bulky and I think also added to the rim not staying back on its own while trying to apply one handed. I own another version so I was very excited to have an extra one to use. The accessories that come with this breastmilk collector are fantastic. By utilizing the stopper, top, and suction bottom there is no way for this to be knocked over and milk to be spilled. I am also a huge fan of the size of this collector, it&rsquo;s small enough where it doesn&rsquo;t interfere with the baby nursing but large enough to hold a good amount of milk. The only accessory I couldn&rsquo;t figure out was the lanyard, it&rsquo;s not a device I would wear around my neck or really need that lanyard accessory for, I do use it to hold the silicone collector on my door though right next to my chair where I usually nurse at. My only issue and lack of one star as I had a very hard time getting it to suction properly to my breast. It would take three or four times and adjustments to get a good suction which is not something I want to be messing with when I&rsquo;m nursing a baby on the other side. It has a ton of great features. First of all the milk saving ability without having to do anything other than just put it on is amazing. One of my favorite features is the suction cup bottom and pull tab for easy un-suctioning. This really helped me from spilling the milk I collected. Multiple times I would bump it and be so glad that it was suctioned. I also love the neck strap and the fact that it&rsquo;s removable. My daughter flails her arms a lot while nursing so I like the assurance of the neck strap saving the milk if she were to get too wild. I like the option of using the lid or the stopper. I have always had a very substantial letdown, and so I have used breastmilk collectors before. With my elder child, Medela had not released this product yet, so I used a different brand. I was excited to receive this product to try, since I need to use one everytime I nurse. This product was great once I got it attached. It actually took me a little while, which is not great because my son is not a calm nurser. This did get easier, but it was still hard to get the proper suction. Once I got it attached, it was amazing. It never lost suction or had to be re-attached. I was able to get the same amount of milk as my other ones. I was also curious about the stopper, so I put it in and turned the collector upside down. I didn't lose a drop! This is wonderful news for those moms who need all the milk they produce. The suction cup also worked great - both on my side table and in the kitchen counter. I&rsquo;ve used several different types of milk collectors over the course of breastfeeding 4 children and, while there are some added features to this one, I wouldn&rsquo;t say it&rsquo;s superior. However, the addition of the lanyard and the lid are features that do come in handy for this particular breast milk collector. I found it easy to use and effective for catching otherwise wasted milk. The suction bottom is great and the lanyard is adjustable and not bothersome on the neck, but I did have trouble getting the large lid attached to the collector. My issue with this type of collector is that, even with the lanyard, it becomes a toy for the baby while in use. Maybe if you have newborn it would be ok but my 5 month old was constantly grabbing and pulling at it. The lanyard of course keeps you from completely losing the cup of milk, which is a win and the collector has a nice little notch for pouring milk into a bottle or bag. I don&rsquo;t find that it&rsquo;s truly hands free though in the sense that I cannot suction it and then sort of forget about it since it&rsquo;s dangling/sitting right in top of baby and I&rsquo;m constantly trying to get her to leave it alone. The biggest challenge was my son's interest in playing with it while nursing, but that makes sense with an 8 month old. With a road trip, I have been using this on one side with a manual pump on the other side, and this combo is a very easy travel option. Everything is small, easy to use in the car, and then I can have a bottle available for my son when nursing is less convenient. The ease of cleaning is also an ideal feature for traveling. I was impressed by the quality of the milk collector. It is a great value for what you get. It is a very nice silicone with a suction cup bottom, a lid, and plug so you don&rsquo;t spill your milk. A neck strap is also included that would probably be great for the newborn days, but my 6 month old was constantly yanking on it and playing with it. I really love the concept of this milk collector. It&rsquo;s easy to use and put on, but unfortunately it was very painful each time I used it when I hit letdown and it was collecting milk. I gave it multiple tries to make sure it was not a one time thing. While I do believe this product would be great for some, it just did not work well for me. I tried out the Medela Breastmilk Collector, courtesy of the Stelllar Product Testing Panel, with my 9 month old twins. I have never used a product like this before, but let me tell you, this collector gets every last drop of precious milk! I was skeptical if it would work for me because I tandem nurse my babies, but it really works and is simple to use. Here is how I used it: After running all the parts through the dishwasher to sanitize, I attatched the lanyard and sat down to nurse my twins. First, I tandem nursed my babies until they were pretty satisfied and unlatched them both. Then, I put the lanyard around my neck with the silicon breastmilk collector attached, squeezed the silicone collector onto my breast, it totally stayed put hands-free upon application, and then started to feed only one baby at a time. To my surprise I was able to collect a whole other ounce of milk with the breastmilk collector! When I was done, I just squeezed the collector again to release it. My 4 year old was excited to pour the milk, using the handy built-in pour spout, into a cup to get his own immunity boosting mommy milk :) I really love having the option to easily give my older children an extra immunity boost through my collected milk without having to bust out my pump and deal with cleaning all the parts. My favorite features, besides the one piece silicon collector itself, are the the suction base and the stopper. I know that my collected milk is safe from a dreaded spill with these two layers of protection. The lid is a great idea as an extra layer to keep milk in and germs out, but I had trouble getting it to stay on. As I mentioned above, my babies are 9 months old and interested in everything! That being said, this collector could definitely be hands-free for someone with a younger baby, but for me, I had to hold it with one hand to keep my babies from kicking it off. The lanyard is a fine feature but it didn&rsquo;t really do anything for me. I would love to see the collector come with a travel bag as one of the accessories because it is so adaptive to travel. This milk collector is a great addition to anyone's breastfeeding supplies. Especially if you don't plan on pumping regularly. This helps you collect milk that would otherwise be wasted. I liked the neck strap because it helped keep the collector in place and helped keep it from spilling milk if it came unlatched. All the pieces of the collector were easy to use and to wash. The collector helped collect almost 4oz per breast, which is awesome! The Medela silicone breast milk collector is great for getting every last drop of milk. I mainly use it on one side while feeding baby on the other. It catches letdown that would usually go to waste. The collector is easy to use and holds a good amount of milk. I especially like the suction base. I've had milk spill before and the suction base helps prevent that. The strap is a good idea, but something I don't think I'd use everytime. This product has made many improvements on other similar products on the market, and I recommend it for less lost milk. First, I primarily use this in combination with nursing or pumping one breast at a time. My let-down reflex is intense, and I would soak through nursing pads&mdash;a hard-earned waste. I started researching manual pumps/ milk collectors and, after much trial and error, much prefer this over other shells/collectors. I typically save at least two ounces in this collector (see picture) that otherwise be wasted in pads or all over my clothes. This collector has helped me build up a small freezer stash of breast milk for emergencies. Pros: -The stopper is a game changer! So reassuring to have ways to secure the collector since the flat lids on this type don&rsquo;t ever seem to fit snugly. -the suction base also is fantastic when pumping at the table or kitchen counter. No more knocking over while fumbling at a 3am feed. -the lanyard is an extra bit of security so the milk doesn&rsquo;t end up in your lap, but it was a last-defense if, say, your kid kicks it while you&rsquo;re wearing it. -it is comfortable and effective. -good capacity without being too big. Cons: -They could include better instructions on how to wear it. I learned from a lactation consultant to invert the top (see picture) and squeeze the air out before rolling it onto the breast; this technique improved it falling off by about 95%. -the stopper doesn&rsquo;t have a clear ridge to indicate it is in correctly and sealed. -if you place the stopper incorrectly, it stops the lid from going on (pictured). -the lanyard is just asking to be pulled on/caught up in your kid&rsquo;s hands/feet. -it may be a bit tall for women with shorter torsos. The Medela Silicone Breastmilk Collector was easy to use and super comfortable to boot! I wish all breastfeeding accessories were this comfortable! The neck strap was great; I didn't have to worry about the collector falling and spilling. I don't have a ton of let-down/leakage in my opposite breast when I nurse, so it only saved a bit at a time, but it was nice to add that bit to existing breastmilk pouches. One area it unexpectedly came in hand was post-shower when my milk let down too early. Instead of having to run and set up my pump, I just grabbed the Medela Silicone Breastmilk Collector - much easier! I use a similar product daily and was excited to try this out. My son is 6 months old and sadly his hands were the perfect size to pop this off. The silicone isn't as thick as similar ones and while I think that makes it more comfortable to use, it also makes it easier to pull off. If he were a newborn I think this would be absolutely perfect. The features are great, the lid, stopper &amp; lanyard give it a step above. I found that because it was so easily knocked off, the lanyard just kept it from hitting the ground, but still had some spilling. I have used other versions of this product in the past and this one is superior to all of them. The silicone is thick, so that it feel steady and solid while you collect the milk. It has a built in notch that holds the lanyard tightly in place and a suction cup bottom to stick to the table or fridge. I cleaned the collector using my bottle sanitizer and it came out clear and clean every time. I love the heavy duty stopper that fits into the hole perfectly too. I cannot recommend this enough! I have used the breastmilk collector almost every day since it arrived and I love it! Today alone I have collected over a full bottle of breast milk from just 4 feedings. While nursing, just place the milk collector on the opposite breast, then switch it when your baby is ready to feed on the other side. Before I used the milk collector, I wasted so much precious milk leaking out into nursing pads! I read reviews on the Haaka as well, which is a similar product, and one of the biggest complaints was the risk of spilling after you&rsquo;re finished nursing. I love that this one comes with a milk stopper so you can prevent any spills when your hands are full with a squirmy baby! I cannot recommend this product enough to other nursing mamas.
