I am a mother of two , a toddler and a 5 month old. With both I used the Medela sonata duel pump until I received this pump. The duel has its perks but in terms of travel capabilities, and solo knocks it out of the park. Suction wise I would say it's equal to the sonata. However, unlike the sonata, it does not have a digital interface. So although you can increase the suction level, unless you count as you press ( I always forgot) , you don't know how much you've increased. Also, and probably only because I was used to the digital interface, it doesn't show how long you've pumped for. So same thing, if you set a timer before you started ( again, I always forgot) you could pump for however long you wanted to go for - i.e 5, 10 , 15 mins etc Cleaning wise, very easy to dismantle and clean. Only hiccup I encountered is I'd say 2 out of 10 times, I would go to use it post clean and the pump would be on making the sucking sounds, I could see my milk being extracted but it was blocked from going into the bottle. I would dismantle and put it right back together again and then randomly it would work again. Didn't happen all the time but enough to note it. Overall I gave this a 4 cause you can only chose 4 or 5 stars. But given that my issues are mostly preference, I'd give this pump a 4.8 out of 5. A solid contender for any mom, but I'd say especially for the working mom or a mom always on the go and needs to pump discretely. This pump is easily packed into a medium purse without needing to lug a bigger bag around. First of all, I really like the design and quality of the breast pump. It is small and lightweight, but very mighty at the same time. The pump is very easy to use, I had no problem assembling it, even without reading the instructions. It has rechargeable batteries, one charge was enough for four full sessions in average. When I just started using it, I had a problem with the amount of milk I was producing, and baby was always hungry, so I had to use formula in the end of each feeding. After a couple of days with regular day/night pumping using Solo breast pump, I have noticed 30% increase of the amount of the milk I was producing. During the pumping sessions, I never experienced any discomfort, the pump has a lot of settings, depending on one&rsquo;s needs. I had the pleasure of being given the Medela Solo single breast pump to try, thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel, and I really liked it. It is quiet, so if you are using it while on a call, the person you are talking to cannot hear it. It is rechargeable, which is a game-changer, as so many places ARE NOT PUMPING friendly, and in order to pump privately, you end up pumping in a bathroom stall, obviously without an electrical outlet &ndash; and that is possible with this small rechargeable pump. I also liked the small size. I placed it in a small bag and could bring it to a friend&rsquo;s wedding recently, avoiding the need to bring a large pumping bag. Lastly, I found the pump efficient, compared to other breast pumps I have used &ndash; I got the same amount of milk, or slightly more than with my Medela double breast pump. The only issue I had with the product, was the fact that it is a single breast pump. I would love a pump that is identical, but had the option to be single OR double, as at home, while breastfeeding, I love to have a single pump to use on the other breast while I feed my baby, but at work, I prefer to pump with a double, so that I can be as quick and efficient as possible. Overall if you are looking to buy a single breast pump, this is absolutely the pump to buy &ndash; quiet, efficient and perfectly portable, due to its small size and rechargeable nature. I have an older style Medela pump, so I was very excited when the Medela Solo single electric breast pump arrived. This pump is very user friendly, and simple to assemble. It is easy to adjust the suction settings to your comfort level. This pump is super compact, it has less parts than my other pump, so it's easy to pop in your purse or for an overnight/day trip. On that same note, less parts means less parts to wash. (Which is amazing, who wants to spend their time washing a ton of different pump parts.) This pump has a long lasting rechargeable battery. You can pump anywhere, and don't need to be tethered to an outlet. The battery also charges quickly, much faster than my older pump. This battery also lasts twice as long as my old pump. I can't believe how quiet the pump is. You can be on a phone or zoom call, and would be able to pump discreetly. Also it won't distract a baby if you are pumping at the same time that the baby is nursing. The first time I used this pump, my husband didn't even notice I was pumping until I asked him to pay attention to how quiet this pump was. It's a very noticeable difference from my other pump. It's such a minor detail, but the fact that a bottle stand comes in the box is huge for me. The amount of times I accidentally knocked over the bottle of milk that I had just pumped... I really appreciate something like this. It will prevent that from happening in the future. The only thing I miss that my other pump has, is the screen with the built in timer. It's not a deal breaker, just means I have to use the timer function on my cell phone. Overall I'm very satisfied with this pump. The power of the pump is definitely strong which helped me express more milk quickly with the little time I had. The use of this product as well as the cleaning of it is extremely easy. The only real downfall of this breast pump; is that it is only one. I use it to do extra pump sessions during the day to increase my milk supply, and it is such a game changer to not be tied to a plug in the wall. With the Medela Solo I could pump anywhere in the house, and if my other little kids needed help while I was pumping, I didn't have to disentangle myself like I would have with my standard pump--I could just hop up and grab whatever they needed with no interruption to my pumping session. I also sometimes stick the pump in my pocket and do some quick chores while pumping--there is never a shortage of chores or things to pick up around my house, so being able to double up by pumping and tidying up at the same time is huge. The pump is also nice and quiet, so I felt it is less disruptive during the day. The battery life was good, and it seemed to recharge pretty quick. The solo is so easy to use - I usually pump during the day while my son is playing. I can walk around and carry just the little pump around with me. And it&rsquo;s very easy to clean! The solo actually mimics the way my son breastfeeds.I get so much more milk with this pump compared to my manual hand pump. It&rsquo;s faster, more comfortable and way less work. You can adjust the strength for comfort too. I was given this breast pump to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel and I am so thankful for that. Before trying the solo, I thought an electric pump wasn&rsquo;t worth the money for how often I use it. I also wanted something small that I could bring with me to pump on the go. That&rsquo;s why I originally purchased a manual pump. But I was wrong. The solo is definitely worth it, even for occasional use The only one thing I like better about my manual pump is that the breast shield comes with a cover/cap. I wish this one did, so I could sterilize everything, put it altogether and cap it to throw it in my bag or cupboard until my next use. It has a thoughtful design that is sleek, discreet and easy to use. Cleaning is a breeze with fewer parts and no little pieces that can go missing. It&rsquo;s lightweight and super portable and I love the fact that it has a rechargeable battery so you can use it on the go. No wires to worry about and no requirement to be by an outlet to pump, making it great for travel as well. This pump is much quieter than the Swing version and wont wake baby or make people look if you are trying to pump in a public place. The efficiency of the Solo was incredible for a single pump. The suction was superior to the Swing and found I was able to collect more milk per pump than with the Swing. You could use this pump on it&rsquo;s own if you are both breastfeeding and pumping to supplement or as a supplemental pump if you already have a double. It is nice that it is a closed system so milk will not interfere with the motor if there is a malfunction and ensures there is no contamination of the milk. My only gripe was that it doesn&rsquo;t come with a nipple for the bottle. The Swing did and it made it easier to buy one product and start pumping and feeding baby right away. It does produce a decent strength but would be nice if you could vary the cycle speed as well. The parts aren&rsquo;t bad to clean, they come apart easily and most of it is accessible to a bottle brush. However, the yellow silicon backflow protector and valve are all one piece and do wear out which means you regularly have to replace the whole connector which is expensive compared to just replacing valves or backflow protectors. The single pump was great for pumping on the non-nursing side to help maintain supply. It was even efficient enough to pull out the occasional clogged milk duct when weaning. One of the best features is that this pump is rechargeable and you don't have to worry about being plugged into an outlet while using it. The pump was easy to use with the ability to increase or decrease suction and clear instructions for start-up. I also loved the included oval-shaped breast shield with a soft rim which made pumping more comfortable than with a regular breast shield. The one downside is that as a single pump it wasn't great for full-time pumping use. It has all the efficiency and effectiveness of Medela&rsquo;s other pumps, and because it is only a single it takes up less space in a bag or purse. The pump runs on a rechargeable battery, so it is easier to multitask while using it. I loved how simple it was to use&mdash;just a few parts to snap and twist together and it was good to go! Likewise, it was straightforward to clean and sterilize. It is so easy to use and perfect size to throw in a work or overnight bag. I was able to take this with me for a weekend away and easily keep pumping to keep up my supply while away from baby. The pump itself is quiet and super easy to clean with minimal parts. I love that this pump is rechargeable and does not require to be plugged in, which makes it even more practical on the go, even in the car. The only downfall for me is that it is a single pump, so while this feature is useful when feeding baby on one side or just needing to pump one side, I do think the main improvement( for me) would be for the pump to have the option to have it act as a single or double pump for when away from baby for multiple feeds. This would not be a deal breaker for me as the pump does a great job and I never had to pump for a long time even if I did 1 side at a time. It is small, fitting into my sweater pocket for hands-free pumping while doing things around the house, while still being powerful and holding a charge for a long time. I took this pump on a family weekend getaway and it was the perfect size to slip into my luggage and have readily available when needed. I like the sleek minimalistic design which makes it a breeze to clean - even my husband has no problem cleaning it and he's not a big fan of all the small parts on my double pump. I do wish that the pump came with some sort of carrying case as I do find myself packing it up often to bring with me as it is such a great size. Personally, I would find the holder loop in a different material to be easier to grasp and bring along but it's a minor thing and the positives of this pump outweigh this small design feature. My main pump is the medela freestyle flex double electric pump. I was interested in trying out this style as the pump interface is different than the touch screen of the freestyle flex. I would say that the pumping experience of the machine is quite similar. Parts care is basically the same. Having a closed system is great to cut down on the parts that need to be cleaned. The price point between single and double electric is substantial so I understand why people would choose something like the solo. For me, as I am either direct breastfeeding both babies or pumping then a single pump doesn't quite make sense. That being said I would now pick the double swing instead of the flex because of how much more I liked the raised buttons instead of the finnicky touch screen. No cord to get tangled with tubing, to be knocked from a wall, or have a well-meaning sibling trip over it mid-pumping session. Single pumps make it easy to pump while nursing at the same time, and because it&rsquo;s so quiet my 8 month old wasn&rsquo;t distracted when I was using it simultaneous to her nursing. The controls are intuitive and easy to use, and the system is simple, easy to clean, and easy to assemble. My only suggestions for improvement would be to include a carrying/storage bag for the pump, to include a second size flange (it only comes with one, which worked great for me, but others may need a different size), and I did wish it had the bandeau to allow for a truly hands free experience. I do think this particular pump would be incredible for travelling, while still using a double at home for optimum milk storage. The Medela Solo is so small, and as it&rsquo;s rechargeable all the cords aren&rsquo;t necessary every time you go some where (who doesn&rsquo;t love having less to pack!).
