My sister had about 3 to Maybe 4 drinks and afterward we tested her milk but she had already pump just incase she needed to feed the little one. We the test strip did change so we tested again two hours later but it was lighter this time so around three and a half hours later the strip was back to normal. I usually feed my little one every 2 to three hours time frame so this definitely gives me an idea and help me feel safer if I decide to enjoy alcohol while breastfeeding. I highly suggest that you always try to pump extra before drinking just to be safe. Had a couple glasses of margarita and after 30 minutes, I tested and the color change. Tested after 1.5 hrs and there&rsquo;s a slight change in color. 2 hrs later, almost no change. I would say though that the time difference which I usually allow before breastfeeding (which is 2 to 3 hrs) is about the same effect on this one. Is this a necessity, the answer is no, but definitely gives reassurance. On the plus side, I like how easy it is to use these strips (I simply expressed milk directly on it) and how the instructions showed the various results that could show there was alcohol in your milk. I think if you were a heavier drinker and a lot of time had passed you'd want to use these regularly to determine if you should feed your child or pump and dump. I wish the instructions would have told how long after you've drank the alcohol should be tested. I had two glasses of wine (particularly to test these) and while the strip had a slight discoloration after the 2 minutes, it was actually hard to tell if there was truly anything on it. A result like that could still mean there is alcohol, so would have loved a meter that said there is hardly any vs a ton in my milk. I also felt it was odd that the instructions say you can get a positive test from environmental exposures like vapors from home disinfectants or cleaners. That means you might not have much in your system. Sure to prevent this it says to do the test outside, but that just doesn't always feel realistic. If you're a new mom, you're hyper aware of everything you do that can affect your child, so the risk of false positives from things like a deodorizer, doesn't really put you at ease. Overall, I would still stick with my practice of only having one drink (not a heavy drinker even before baby) and knowing I can still feed my baby without having to use the strips to tell me that. If you want to have more drinks and really want the peace of mind that alcohol won't make it to the baby, then by all means these are a good option and just a really handy thing to have in your purse for an unexpected night of consumption. I sometimes have more than a drink so I wanted to know was my breastmilk safe for my daughter. I used them and they worked great but when I had not drank it still came up positive. I dont know if I had a faulty test strip but I dont want moms to rely solely on these strips and throw away milk.
