Philips Avent SCF421/27 Anti-colic baby bottle Newborn Nipple lets nursing newborns control the flow of milk like with breastfeeding, which can reduce spit-up and overeating. Philips Avent's anti-colic valve flexes to keep air in the bottle and out of your baby's tummy, a feature that reduces fussing and colic. In a clinical trial, two-week-old infants fed with a Philips Avent Anti-colic baby bottle bottle experienced less colic than babies fed with a conventional bottle, with the greatest difference seen at night. The Newborn Nipple has a single hole, so newborns can learn to eat with the slowest flow Philips Avent offers. The nipple is made of flavourless, odourless silicone that resists discolouring and stickiness. The nipple's soft, rounded shape promotes feeding for babies who nurse from both the breast and a bottle. The Anti-colic baby bottle BPA Free nipples are dishwasher safe and can be sterilized by boiling for five minutes or by using a Philips Avent steam sterilizer. We recommend to use the Anti-colic baby bottle nipples with the Anti-colic baby bottle or Classic+ bottles. Philips Avent Classic+ and Anti-colic bottles and nipples are interchangeable. Anti-colic bottles can be used with Classic+ nipples and Classic+ bottles can be used with Anti-colic nipples.

Works Wonders for Colic!
As a family that already uses Avent bottles, I was so happy to see that they have developed an Anti-Colic line. These bottles work WONDERS for our child. She took to them almost instantly with no issue and we have been noticing steady improvement over the last few weeks. Cleaning is a breeze and with the variety of nipple sizing I am looking forward to sticking with this line. Thank you so much weeSpring Parent Panel for giving us the opportunity to try them out!

Great first bottle
The Phillips Avent anti-colic bottle and newborn glow nipple was the first my 3-week old tried. He took to it instantly, and I appreciated the slow flow nipple since he’s breastfed. The wide mouth bottles are easy to hold in your hand while feeding and seemed easier to clean than the other popular anti-colic bottles. We’ll be giving more bottles in the future as my son goes to daycare and will continue to use the Phillips bottles. We give daily probiotics to our son and I think this is the best bottle to complement those to prevent gas and reflux issues. Thank you to the WeeSpring Parent Panel for allowing me to try this product.

4* nipple
Thanks to the weeSpring parent panel for providing me with this nipple. This review is based on a 5 week old exclusively breastfed baby who has had a bottle approximately 7 times. I liked the variety of nipple and it seemed to resemble the shape of a breast and nipple. I did not have any difficulty getting baby to latch, but experienced some difficulty with maintaining the latch...possibly due to flow (when using the 1 nipple). It was nice to have a variety of nipples and flow rates to choose from as she seemed to prefer to newborn flow. Baby did not have an increase in gas versus being fed from breast. On one occasion, she experienced a bit more than regular spit up, however has exhibited this before being fed from breast. Overall, would recommend to others. Cannot comment on colic symptoms as at this time, we aren’t experiencing any. No leaks, easy to clean, and did not clog!

Smaller nipple flange a great fit for baby!
I'm giving these Philips Avent Anti-Colic baby bottle nipples a try after using a different brand that I was having a few issues with. I wasn't sure at first if my daughter would take to them because the shape was so different, but she seemed to take them just fine. In fact, she seemed to have less milk squirting out of the sides of her mouth during a feeding so I think the smaller nipple flange is a better fit for her. She hasn't had much gas and fussiness since we found the right formula so I can't tell a difference there. I really like the anti-colic valve that can be used with these nipples. It kept formula in the nipple even when the bottle was not tilted downward. This is great because my daughter seems to want to sit up more and more often to take her bottles. We still use the lowest flow nipple since we breastfeed as well, using the bottle for pumped milk and some supplementation. The flow is just perfect and the nipple doesn't get misshapen as the bottle gets empty. The smaller niples take up less room in the bottle sterilizer tray as well which is nice. I would definitely recommend giving these nipples and the Philips Avent Anti-colic baby bottle a try for your little one. I was given this nipple to try as part of the weeSpring Parent Panel.

Great design, easy to use!
With my almost 4-year old son, I exclusively breastfed until the end of my maternity leave, and then went through the trial and error of what seemed like dozens of bottles before landing on Philips. With my newborn daughter, I haven't even tried another brand. I was sent the Avent Anti-colic bottle as part of the weespring Parent Panel, and I’m so happy I was!
This bottle is very easy to use, assemble, and clean as there aren’t many parts involved and the vent is built right into the system. The bottles can be used with or without the venting piece, and we haven’t experienced any issues with collapsed nipples as they stay full when properly using the bottle. It comes with a simple guide showing to use the bottle with the vent facing up, which is helpful. I also love that it’s a shorter, wider necked bottle — not only easy to clean, but harder to tip over and I imagine will be easy for baby to hold on her own when she’s ready.
I haven’t noticed any reduction in gas or spit up, but she doesn’t seem to experience much of either at any rate. I am glad to say that there hasn’t been any nipple confusion when switching between breast and bottle, and extra nipples are available for different flow rates, which is another added bonus. Thanks again to the weespring Parent Panel for allowing us the chance to try this bottle system!

Perfect bottle, perfect timing!
I recently received the Philips Avent anti-colic bottle with the AirFree vent and additional sz 1 (slow flow) nipples as part of the weeSpring Parent Panel. I’m compelled to write this review because of how great this truly is. You see, my little guy is three months old and has been battling terrible gas and colic since he was just a few days old. He suffers from dairy and soy protein allergies which have caused an array of symptoms and weight gain issues. The last thing he needs is the wrong bottle to contribute to his already existent gas and colic. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what was happening with the bottles we had currently been using. During a session with a feeding therapist (to also address some feeding issues he was having), she encouraged me to switch to another name brand bottle with tons of pieces. Luckily, I had just received the Philips Avent anti colic bottle and extra slow flow nipples the day before. When I showed her the bottle and nipple, she was highly impressed! She felt it was a perfect fit for my son to help correct some of his feeding issues, along with helping to reduce some of his colic and gas. We began using them right away, and my son took to them with no issues whatsoever. By that evening, I noticed a huge difference in my baby already. So much so that we went online and purchased a whole set! Not only is this bottle great because of how well it has helped my son, but there are quite a few other features about it that I love as well. I love that it’s very easy to clean with only a few pieces, the measurements are clear and easy to read, the milk stays in the nipple to help keep unnecessary air out, and the nipple also has a ribbed texture so we never had issues with it collapsing. The bottle originally came with a size 2 nipple, but I loved having the option of switching to the size 1 nipple that we also received. The slow flow helped my son self-pace his feedings and correct some of his feeding issues. This is truly a wonderful product, and I am so happy and thankful we were selected to receive it. The relief it has given my son is amazing. This definitely is the perfect bottle for us, and we couldn’t have received it at a more perfect time!

Awesome vent system!
I loved The Phillips Avent Anti-colic Baby Bottle Newborn Flow 4pk. It has a great vent system that allows baby not to swallow much air. My only issue is that the nipple is far too big for a newborn baby. I struggled going from the bottle to the breast as my baby has a hard time latching. Of course he prefers a big nipple to bite on, which makes it difficult for him to accept the breast. I am sure if mamas are formula feeding only, this bottle will be the perfect fit! I will definitely give this Avent bottle another try later on. I was given this Nipple to try as part of the weeSpring Parent Panel.

Good quality bottle
I was able to test this bottle due to the weeSpring Parent Panel. My baby is mainly breastfed and doesn't like to take bottles. When he finally took one, he was able to handle this nipple better than some of the other brands we tried. I didnt see much difference as far as fussiness and gas. That part of his temperment remained the same. It's a good quality bottle and easy to clean. I think it's more of a bottle for babies who take bottles more often.

Very good for reflux!
We were big fans of this bottle and nipple! My baby has pretty severe reflux and we have been through many, many different types from the most expensive to the cheapest. I will say that this one is in our top three favorite. The design of the bottle and nipple allow him to feed without swallowing a lot of air. Which has helped his tummy trouble and greatly reduced the need to burp him repeatedly. I will say that we started him on the number two nipple and the flow was way too fast for him causing him to gulp and choke a bit but after switching the the number one we haven’t had any issues at all! Thanks to the weeSpring Parent Panel for providing me with this Nipple!

I received this product from the weeSpring Parent Panel. My newborn is breastfed, but we decided to introduce a bottle of expressed milk occasionally in preparation for when I return to work. I did feel that the flow on these was a bit too fast for my newborn, so I don’t think we’ll be increasing flow rate. There was also slight leaking on one occasion. But overall my little one accepted this bottle well and had no issues with gas/fussiness after.

Good for first time bottle use
I'm a third-time mom and did not use bottles much with my first two. Now as my children are older, and I have a sweet six week old, bottles make it a lot more convenient when I need extra help to feed him if I'm playing or busy with the older two.
The Philips Avent Anti-Colic baby bottle was the first one for my baby to use. I was apprehensive at first, not knowing if it would be a good fit for him, if he would reject it, or if it would cause problems when he nursed later on. Out of the package, this bottle came with a stage 2 nipple. I had the pack of stage 1 newborn nipples that I switched out for a slower flow.
My husband gave him the bottle, and to both of our surprise, we had a nice experience. My son had an easy time drinking the milk and did not make the "clicking" sound that can be heard sometimes while bottle feeding. After he sucked down the bottle, he had a gentle burp but did not fuss; He took a nap on daddy. I felt indifferent as he fusses and spits up a little more after nursing (fast let down). We did have slight leakage and I'm not certain if this was from the nipple, the bottle lid, or if my baby is pushing out a little milk while he feeds. We haven't had any issues with breastfeeding while using these nipples.
I'm glad to have this as a back up to supplement when I'm unable to nurse my baby.I received this Philips Avent Newborn Nipple pack from the weeSpring Parent Panel.

I received these bottles as part of the weeSpring Parent panel. My 4 month old has really bad reflux and spits up from the time he stops eating, till the time he eats again. While these bottles did not help with the spitting up, he does seem to be more content and the spitting up seems to bother him less. They are extremely easy to clean and the nipples don’t seem to bother him- meaning he does not have any issue switching from breast to bottle. Love Phillips Avent, just not this product
I would like to start by saying that our family loves the Philips Avent brand, we have used it with two of my children with great results. I was excited to try the Phillips Avent Anti-colic baby bottle newborn flow due to our previous success with this company. Unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations.
The good: I like that you can have a variety of nipple choices, there are very slow flow options which are great for a newborn. The bottle has a sleek design and are a good size to hold plenty of milk. The bottles have a wide base allowing for easy cleaning. You can use the anti-colic bottle without the air free vent.
The bad: my baby did not take well to the nipple/bottle and it did not ease her colic or spit up. When feeding you must orient the bottle a particular way to ensure the venting apparatus, which is frustrating during nighttime feedings in the dark. With the added vent, there are more products to wash.
Maybe it is just my baby, but she takes to other Avent products best so that is what we will stay with. As reference, I received this item to test via the weeSpring Parent Panel and this is my unbiased review.

Great for breastfed babies
Wow! Very impressed with the Philips AVENT anti-colic bottle w/ nipples and so is my newborn! I am a mom of three and have tried many different bottles for my little ones, and this one makes the top of the list! All of my babies have been breastfed so the transition to bottle has sometimes been challenging, but necessary when I have to return to work. My two month old took to this bottle with the size 1 Anti-colic nipple pretty easily and the air flow vent really seemed to alleviate excess air. We took some breaks in between to burp since she seemed a little uncomfortable half way through, but not sure if that was because of this specific bottle or because bottle feeding is pretty new to her. (I typically do this anyway with other bottles). The air vent is an additional part to clean, but this was not a big deal to me, at this point. It’s also very helpful to have a variety of nipple choices to see what works best for each individual little one. Thanks to the wee Spring Parent Panel for sending me and my babe this bottle and Anti-colic nipples!

Great for reflux
I'm so thankful I was given this bottle to try as part of the weespring parent panel. My 7 month old has had horrible gas and reflux issues since she was born. The design of this bottle is unlike anything else and I like that it's easy to assemble and wash. There aren't a bunch of pieces so it's pretty straightforward. The newborn nipple is actually a slow flow newborn nipple. This works great because my daughter is exclusively breastfed and it makes pace feeding easier. Milk doesn't leak out of the nipple like it does with other bottles. I had a hard time getting my daughter to love this bottle because the nipple was a bit big for her tiny mouth, but when I did get her to take it she didn't spit up as much or choke like she often does on other bottles. I would definitely recommend this bottle to other parents, especially those with gas or reflux issues.

Solid solution for reflux/colic
I am grateful to have received the Philips Avent Anti-colic baby bottle and Newborn Flow nipple. My sweet 3-month-old baby boy is an absolute angel, but so far hasn't been loving any bottles we have tried previously. I return to work in a few months, so I have been trying many different bottles, hoping he will find one that he likes. It has been helpful to have a variety of nipple choices with different styles and flow rates. His older sister suffered from reflux as an infant, so I jumped straight to the anti-colic bottles this time around. He still very much prefers the breast over bottles, but he tolerated this nipple/bottle combination better than some others we have tried. I like that it has a few less parts to clean than other anti-colic bottles we've used as well. One drawback was that this bottle needs to be held in a specific position in order for it to vent properly. That issue would not prevent me from using the bottle, but it's just one more thing to think about when you're trying to feed a hungry baby. Thank you to weeSpring Parent Panel for sending me this bottle and nipple to try and review.

Avent Newborn Flow
I was given this Nipple to try as part of the weeSpring Parent Panel. The bottle came with a #2 nipple, which was too large for my newborn son, so I switched it for #1 which also was provided. My hope was that the #1 would reduce the volume of milk and allow for a better feeding experience.
My son did not latch well to this nipple, and because of this there was a lot of spill over of milk. I had to repeatedly remove the nipple and encourage relatching. Once he had a solid latch, it appears that the volume coming out of the #1 caused the spill over as he is a slow drinker. I did not notice any increase in gas or discomfort from using this bottle with the air exchange design.
I am interested in trying this bottle again when he is older and has an increased stomach capacity, as well as a more developed latch and suck, as volume control appears to be the issue with him and this bottle.

Happy chill baby! No longer can call him “Mr. Burbles”
I was excited to try out his unique design for my four month old little guy. There’s a reservoir in the nipple that completely fills with milk before the baby is able to drink. This prevents air from entering the nipple to reduce the possibility of gas. You can actually see the little vents that pushes the air back into the bottle. However, my son has to suck longer than with other nipples we have used to fill the reservoir. He was sucking and expecting milk and got a little panicky when nothing was coming out initially. After the reservoir filled to its max capacity he was able to drink normally.
He is getting more used to this feature. I’m breastfeeding and he did not struggle to adjust to the nipple size or flow rate once it started. He is still using size one at this time. I actually am happy it is not too easy and fast to drink from the nipple when he starts the bottle. My first child went on a breastfeeding strike around 4 months when I had switched to size two nipples so I think it is advantageous to not get him used to a faster, easier flow at this time. However, as he grows, I love there are different nipple flows so we can move to a faster flow as needed. My son also tends to collapse nipples from sucking too hard but the ribbed design keeps the nipple from collapsing.
I have a very hiccupy baby. Since using this bottle, he has not experienced hiccups once over the past few days. My husband enjoys bicycling my son’s legs and making him dance to release massive amounts of gas and was almost disappointed to learn my son was gas free!
Overall, we will use this as our primary bottle nipples now. We use Philips Avent bottles as it is so we will add it to our collection. We have a smiley baby who is not squirming and turning red in discomfort! He only woke up once last night rather than every 1-2 hours so we are hoping that lasts and that the nipples are creating a less burbley baby. I love the innovative design that makes for a happier child.
Thank you to weeSpring for letting me try out these nipples!

So that’s a big plus! The only negative I could find was that the flow is a little faster than I’d like. Otherwise they are great! Definitely recommend!

Great Bottle and slow flow!
We really enjoyed these bottles. I loved that they came with a slow flow nipple. My little one seems to have an issue with anything faster than a slow flow. He really seemed to have less reflux with the bottles. Baby seemed to have no issues going from breast to bottle and back again. We even tried some water in the bottle and he did really well with it. These bottles were provided as part of the WeeSpring parent panel but the review is all mine.

Great Anti Colic Option
We received the Philips Anti colic bottle and nipple as a part of the weespring parent panel to test and review. We typically use glass bottles as I have yet to find a plastic one that both baby and we like. Little baby girl took to the bottle right away and had no problem drinking from it. I liked that it came apart easily and was easy to clean. Compared to other anti colic bottles we have tried, this one is definitely our favorite. I would definitely recommend this bottle to other parents who need an anti colic nipple. However, we still prefer the glass over plastic bottles. If this was offered in a glass version, we would probably completely switch over to it!

Easy to use bottle for babies with reflux
My daughter had pretty severe reflux as an infant (treated with oral medicines and would still spit up a lot) and was very picky on what bottles she could use (she is breastfed but will take a bottle if given). It took a bit of a learning curve for her, but she did adapt to them and learned to like these over similar anti-colic bottles from other brands. While she was learning to use these nipples, having several choices of flow was very helpful. As an added bonus, the bottle fit onto my breast pump. I would recommend these to parents of babies with similar reflux issues! I was given this Nipple to try as part of the weeSpring Parent Panel.

Great Product, but Not For Lip Ties
The Philips Avent Anti-colic baby bottle stays true to Phillips’ nature: made with sturdy and long lasting parts, easy to disassemble to clean, simple to reassemble for use, and a name you know you can trust. The flow of the newborn nipple is perfect for breastfed babies learning how to eat from a bottle, barely even dripping when the bottle is tipped. A variety of nipples is a must when helping your baby learn to use a bottle, as some babies tolerate fast flows well, while other babies sputter and choke if the flow is too quick. My baby initially preferred the slowest flow nipple when she started using a bottle, but she quickly mastered the technique and started taking in too much air with a slower flow, as she was sucking so vigorously to try and get her milk faster. The design of this bottle is such that the nipple is full of milk instead of air, which is incredibly ingenuitive, preventing baby from taking in too much air while eating. My baby has never struggled with colic or gas, but I imagine this design would greatly help those babies with sensitive little tummies. My baby has a stage 4 upper lip tie which affects how well she can latch onto a bottle. Unfortunately, she could not latch well onto this bottle, and because she couldn’t create a good seal, she as taking in a lot of air when she would try to eat, and she got frustrated. The nipple was also longer than she is used to, and she gagged as she tried to eat. I’m sorry to report that this bottle and nipples didn’t work for us, but I would happily try it again with other babies, and I would recommend it to my friends and family with babies that don’t struggle with serious lip ties. Thanks to the WeeSpring parent panel for providing me with this nipple to try.

Easy cleaning
We have been an Avent family since my first child was born 2.5 years ago. I’ve always loved the brand and their dedication to a great product. The Avent Anti Coluc bottle was a great product. While I’m not 100% sure it actually prevented any colic, the simple design was very appreciated. Cleaning the bottle was a breeze. There was only one extra part to assemble in the normal Avent bottle set up and that was appreciated. It’s was an easy transition from the glass Avent bottle to the anti comic bottle even though there was a change in nipple shape. Thanks WeeSpring parent panel for giving me the chance to try this product!

Success with picky baby
We’ve tried a few different bottles with our second born who is three months old. Our first born wasn’t picky about bottle, nipple or whether it was breast milk or formula. Our second born has been picky! Our second wasn’t interested in a few bottles that we tried so far. We received the Philips Avent anti colic bottle and tried it with the newborn sized nipple; thanks to Weespring parent portal. I wasn’t optimistic but wanted to try since I’d like for her to take a bottle for when I can’t breastfeed. She took it right away and I’m happy that we’ve found a bottle she will take. It was easy to use and clean. We used with pumped breast milk but it would work well with breast milk or formula. We didn’t use the bigger sized nipple yet since she was happy with the newborn flow size, and I was so happy to find something that worked! We will give it a try in a month or two when she’s a little bit older!

Good Bottle Makes Happy Baby
My baby has been switching between breastfeeding and bottle (as I also pump). She is currently 1.5mo. When I gave her the Philips Avent Anti-colic bottle, she doesn't seem to mind that it is different. With this bottle, she burps well (no spit ups), and quite quickly too. She is less colicky, and calmer. I also like the fact that Avent has many sizes for the nipples while other brands only have "slow" and "medium" flow. Currently the newborn nipples work really well for my baby. Another plus (a biggie) is that it is super easy to clean since it has a wide neck with only one attachment for the venting system. A negative though is the fact that we have to hold the bottle with the vent side up. Right now it's not a major issue since I am the one holding the bottle. But when my daughter is older and holding her own bottle, I will have to keep making sure that the vent stay up. Overall, I recommend this bottle! Thank you to weeSpring Parent Panel for sending me this bottle to try and review.

Seems like a great bottle, but not for my baby
I was given this product to try as part of the weeSpring Parent Panel. My 3 month old (who isn't colicky) is exclusively breast fed and we've recently begun introducing this bottle to her...which isn't going super well. For this reason, I feel like my review isn't the most helpful as we barely used it. She hates the bottle (and pacifiers, to be fair) and will barely tolerate the nipple in her mouth. We also have the traditional Avent bottles and nipples from when my son was an infant, and she hates these as well. What I can say about this bottle though, is that the little insert is great at keeping milk in the nipple. And if you're wondering if the nipples and insert are compatible with the other Avent bottles or even their hand pump (which I also have), they are! Once we get her accustomed to a bottle, whichever brand it may be, I will come back to try this bottle as I generally like this brand!

Great for anti-colic and picky eaters
I was so glad to be able to try the Avent bottles and nipples, as my baby has been pretty picky about what works for him. So glad to say that I got to try this nipple set for free from the weeSpring Parent Panel, and everything went smoothly. I tried both size 1 and size 2 nipples and both worked well, but the size 2 was just slightly too fast for my little guy but still worked great.
We like the insert that keeps the nipple full, because at 6 months my little guy likes to sit up more while eating.
Everything is easy to clean and I haven't had any leaking issues. I enjoyed hearing the bubbles coming into the bottle with the anti-colic feature--which worked great!
