I did not receive any compensation for my opinion of this product. I just began using bottles with my son and it has been an easier than expected process. We introduced her to a bottle about a week ago, and the first time i used a different slow flow nipple. It was awful, she choked on the milk and it was dribbling out of her mouth because the flow was faster than she was used to. But we didn't have those issues with these nipples! She can drink from these no problem, and easily switches back and forth between the bottle and breast. We notice that she tends to drink very fast on the breast and gets gassy. But when we use these nipples she seems to have less gas. Can't say enough good things about these nipples! My first was a terrible eater, in fact, I wouldn't even call her an eater at all, she just didn't eat. She ended up on a feeding tube for 6 months after trying every nipple/bottle and every formula on the planet. With my newborn, this kid is an eater! All he wants to do is eat! We already had a tried and true nipple/bottle that we love (after trying them all with my daughter!), but I was given this product to try as part of the weeSpring Parent Panel, so we tried the newborn nipple with our little one. I will say, it's great that they offer the newborn size nipple, it's great to have options! My newborn had no issues eating from this nipple, and doesn't seem to have a preference on flow rate, but his latch was not the same as it is on the breast or the bottles we have that much more similarly resemble the breast. So, he didn't eat as efficiently and in turn had horrible gas and spit up. We had a hard time getting his burps out and then he had horrible gas on the other end too. I felt so bad for the little guy, we never have these issues with our usual bottles and nipples. So I would say that these did not help us with reflux or gas at all. I personally would not recommend these at all if you are worried about gas/colic/reflux with your little one. On the other hand, if you do like the Avent bottles/nipples, these nipples are easy to clean and are great to have as an option for the little ones. Thanks to the weeSpring Parent Panel for providing me with this product to try!
Date published: 2018-01-13

Rated 5 out of 5 by MissP2 from Really does mimick the breast! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These nipples are really different than any other ones I tried. They are marketed as mimicking the softness of a nipple and I can see how Philips took the time to make them sturdy but with different softer spots around the edge. Also the top of the nipple has little flow guides that seem to help the milk come out in a similar spiraling way to breastmilk (which I have noticed comes out in a helix twist when I hand express). With other nipples, my firstborn always had trouble latching because they were so big and he was tongue tied. These nipples are soft enough that my newborn latches easily and doesn’t inhale extra air (the anti-colic valve helps with this as well). I think my newborn is also tongue tied a little bit and he definitely has a lip tie so it’s very important for me to find products that will help his latch as much as possible. With these nipples, his lips are able to flange outwards to create optimal suction and I didn’t need to help him insert the nipple in his mouth multiple times as I have had to in the past. I will probably use these newborn nipples even when my son gets older since my older son got nipple confusion with a different brand and refused the breast for months after I introduced bottles. I was scared this would happen again but at the same time, I wanted to have him bottle feed as well because it’s practical, less tiring and it enables other family members to enjoy his feedings too. I feel like this would be less likely to happen this time around because of the slower flow rate and softer nipple. * I received the product as part of the weeSpring Parent Panel *
Date published: 2018-01-13

Rated 5 out of 5 by racheljm from Great newborn nipple for bottle fed & breastfed baby! My son is 4 weeks ago and our feeding journey has already had a rocky start. He was a fairly large baby at birth (9 lbs 4 oz) and I falsely assumed he would be great at nursing. Not so much! The first week he seemed more interested in sleeping than latching properly. I had to introduce a bottle to him early and have been pumping my milk. When I first introduced a bottle to him, I was really concerned about nipple confusion. His latch was already so-so and I worried the bottle would only add to the issues. Fortunately, Philips Avent Natural Newborn nipples have made our transition back and forth between bottle and breast easier---not more difficult. On an average day, my son will nurse directly from me for 60% of his feedings and take a few feedings from the bottle from my husband or myself. I appreciate the newborn nipples' slow flow since it mimics a more-breast like natural flow. I will not be in a rush to move my son up from the newborn nipples since I think this is a huge reason behind our transition success. My son had some issues with spitting up after feedings initially. Since trying the Philips Advent Natural Newborn nipples, I have noticed he seems to spit up less. As a new mom with limited time, I also appreciate the bottle's simple design. It makes cleaning the bottles quick and easy. They come in hard plastic protection which is handy if you're like me and keep those types of things for storage and travel protection from germs! The nipples are a natural shape to mimic a woman's nipple. The packaging states that they are "flexible with soft texture" and I 100% agree! I love that the nipples are BPA free. I got so excited when I got these bottles because, to me, they are the most natural baby nipples/ bottles on the market! I just had my third child and every single one of my babies has been super gassy and has lots of spit up after feedings. I exclusively breastfeed but I pump so my husband can give the baby a bottle sometimes and I can have a little break! We tried several different bottles all with different nipples- Dr. Browns, Avent, and Nuk. I think it's important to have a variety of nipple choices available to ensure the best fit for my baby. My baby took to all three but we have had the best results with the Avent nipples and bottles. The other nipples were either too fast of a flow for him which resulted in wasting my "liquid gold" (any mom who has pumped knows how painful it is to watch her milk being wasted!) or they seemed like it took him too long to get a good flow going. With the Avent Natural Newborn Nipple, he latched well right away and didn't get fussy because the flow was just right. It wasn't too fast or slow and nothing was leaking out of the corners of his mouth. I personally love these nipples because they do not leak ( aka- not wasting the breastmilk!) while he is sucking on them. When my husband gives the baby the bottle, he stops every 2 oz to burp the baby (pediatrician recommended) to ensure that he doesn't get too many gas bubbles in his tummy. As for the other bottles we tried, he seemed to have a lot of gas and fussiness afterward. With the Avent bottles, the baby was hardly fussy at all after his bottle. I credit the flow and shape of the nipple! One more thing that I love about the Avent nipples/bottles is how easy they are to clean. There aren't a ton of parts you have to take apart and wash, just the nipple, ring, and bottle. With other bottles, the extra parts are so time consuming to clean, sterilize, and put back together. The Avent bottles are a breeze to clean and reassemble compared to the other bottles. Overall, I love the Avent brand! He took to the nipples on the bottles just as well as some other stage 1 slow flow nipples we have used to reduce gas. I liked the wider “shoulder” as well to make it more breast-like. I am returning to work so i knew i would have to get him used to to being fed by the bottle. The Philips Avent Natural Newborn Nipple is great when your baby requires the slow flow necessary as a newborn, it made him work for the milk to practice sucking without becoming frustrated. It was a great shape that my baby latched onto very easily. It also fits all Philips Avent bottles so you can use it no matter what size you have or if you have the anti colic bottles. My baby developed reflux and these nipples seemed to help relieve that with their good shape and flow. The nipple was easy to use and clean. My daughter is exclusively breastfed and will not take a pacifier, and at 5 weeks old, we introduced her to a bottle. She had no problems taking this nipple whatsoever! And had no problems going back to the breast. My husband gives her the bottle, and she starts out slow like she would on the breast and moves quickly to the letdown stage. I received this product for free from the weeSpring Parent Panel, and also purchased some "0m" sized nipples for comparison with this set ("0m+"). My baby eventually accepted this bottle/nipple set, but it took 3 days with multiple tries/day. I think it would have helped to introduce this bottle sooner to her than 4wks, or perhaps she has a preference for nipples similar to her pacifier. Pros - The Air-flex/anti-colic vent worked fine, we've had no issues with colic, and this did not cause any issues. - Wide nipple shape mimics a breast. - Excellent range of nipple flows. The "0m" size was actually too slow for her, which was a first! The "0m+" was perfect for her "sucking" level at this age. Cons - Baby had some gagging issues with the nipple at first. I think because the nipple doesn't collapse into the bottle the way that a human nipple sink into the breast during breastfeeding, though this might be a personal quirk to my baby. This gagging was NOT due to overly fast milk-flow, which I have also experienced with other nipples.
Date published: 2018-01-12

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Natural Like Nipple [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this product from the weeSpring Parent Panel and it is working great for us. Our little one took well to this nipple, but we found that feeding was taking longer to finish, and that the baby would get tired and fall asleep before finishing the milk. We decided to switch to a faster flow (1), which was a good idea. Baby doesn't seem to have to work as hard to get the milk, and now doesn't fall asleep on the bottle before finishing! As with the slow flow nipple, our little one didn't seem to be choking or gasping when getting the milk, likely due to the rate of flow. We also didn't notice as much squirminess and discomfort that usually arises when the milk is too fast, and baby is getting too much air along with the milk. This is also likely due to the anti-colic technology. Overall, we like that we can interchange the nipples easily, as it seemed like the faster flow was better as our baby got used to taking the bottle, and it was nice that we didn't have to buy new bottles to adapt to this change. I received the product as part of the weeSpring Parent Panel in exchange for my review.
Date published: 2018-01-11

Rated 3 out of 5 by skoenig from Too Fast for My Little One [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was given this bottle nipple to try as part of the weeSpring Parent Panel. We used it several times to feed my son pumped breast milk and had no problems switching between the bottle and breast. Previously we tried other brands that also claim to reduce colic and gas and we found that the Avent Natural Newborn Nipple was just as comparable. The flow seemed to be still too fast for my premie though, he struggled to keep up with the output which just created a mess for us. The nipple itself was easy to assemble into the bottle and super easy to clean. Overall we wouldn't purchase this nipple, but it was good to have several brands on hand to find the one that worked best for us!
Date published: 2018-01-11

Rated 5 out of 5 by EricaSK from A great, natural nipple [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was sent this bottle by the Weespring Parent Panel to try for free, and boy am I glad they sent it to me! I have a 5 week old baby, and have only been breastfeeding so far, so I was worried about "nipple confusion" and how my baby would react to a synthetic nipple. First of all, the "slow flow" nipple for newborns is fantastic, I feel that my baby is getting fed at the proper rate (which I have read includes not having milk pool at the corners of his mouth, and not gagging or choking), which unfortunately was an issue with the medela bottles with a smaller nipple that I have previously tried (even though those nipples were labeled as newborn slow flow, he would choke and gag from drinking too quickly). So, I was happy to see that this was not the case with the Philips Avent Natural Baby bottle. Also, it should be said that I have a "power eater"--he eats very quickly at the breast, so it was essential that the flow of the nipple did not allow him to eat too quickly, so this slow flow is perfect for him. Even in looking at the nipple, you can tell that it looks more like an actual breast, and it makes sense that my baby took to it so well. The ergonomic shape is great--easy to hold and easy to clean, and the anti-colic vent I think worked excellent. In burping my baby afterwards, he had very little gas and was not fussy or uncomfortable (another thing that I was worried about when using a bottle over the breast). These are great bottles, and I will definitely be buying more of them in the future. I highly recommend for any mom, but especially those who are primarily breast feeding and want a bottle similar to a real nipple.
Date published: 2018-01-11

Rated 4 out of 5 by AriCully from Great for others [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My daughter decided that she was going to come way earlier than her set due date so my plan to breastfeed was rushed and to say the least, did NOT start off well! She had such a hard time latching at first to me and REFUSED to take a bottle at the hospital so all we could do was try nonstop to get a good latch. Finally we did a few days later and from that point my milk had came in full force so we had no choice but to get her to latch to a bottle. Easier said then done though with this stubborn little girl. She wouldn't latch to the bottles at the hospital, or the 5 other types of well known "natural" bottles we tried the whole next week. Then, thanks to WeeSpring Parent Panel we got an opportunity to try out the bottles along with these newborn nipples. The bottles worked great and the Nipples would have been awesome for us if our daughter had still been in the newborn eating stage with the extra slow flow but due to me having such a strong let down she is already used to getting a lot of milk at a time so she would get very angry when drinking from these nipples because she wasn't getting enough milk immediately like she wanted. My best friend just had her baby though and wanted to try the nipples as well because her daughter is having such a hard time with a regular slow flow nipple of the advent bottles as well and she's doing much better now with the newborn nipples instead! So while they didn't work for our little girl they worked for my friends daughter and she's purchased a few more now!
Date published: 2018-01-11

Rated 4 out of 5 by cdagata from Better fit I was given this bottle nipple to try as part of the weeSpring Parent Panel. We had already been using the Philips Avent Natural nipple in size 1 for our daughter. She is six weeks old but on the small side. So in her first few weeks I could tell the size 1 nipple was too big for her mouth and she was having difficulty eating. I was excited to be given this nipple in size 0 to try. It does seem to make feeding easier for her and she is able to eat a bit more in a shorter amount of time. Since I exclusively breastfeed and occasionally supplement with a bottle I was worried she would not take to the bottle; however, this product proved me wrong. I like the fact that there are varying nipple choices for the babies so other parents whose babies have issues such as latching or even gas have options. My daughter tends to profusely spit up after every feeding due to gas and reflux, but since using this nipple it is a rare occurrence (unlike other nipples from competitors on the market). Our son took to the bottle with the Philips Avent Natural Newborn Nipple easily on the first try and we have had no issues with him refusing breastfeeding now that we have introduced the bottle because the nipple is a natural transition. It is also helpful to have a variety of nipple choices available. We tried a heavier flow nipple last night but it was too much for our son (now 4 weeks old) so we went back to the newborn low flow nipple and will try the others again at a later point. After unsuccessfully trying two other types of bottles and nipples I was able to get my 3 week old to take this nipple very easily. The nipple has a wide breast shape and the soft silicone mimics a natural breast, perfect for the mostly breastfeeding mama. This is our first child and we were somewhat hesitant to introduce a bottle due to concern about "nipple confusion" and other issues that may affect the efficiency of breastfeeding. With the Natural Newborn Nipple, baby Woodrow took easily to the bottle, which very much resembles the breast in size and shape; he gets a good latch every time and maintains his proficiency with breastfeeding, too. The flow rate is designated by a subtle clear-on-clear number on the nipple (difficult to distinguish in certain light). We had a variety of flow rates available and the newborn flow rate seems to match his intake when breastfeeding quite well at this point (age 2-3 weeks). He can gulp down 2-3 oz in 7-10 minutes or so. Even when he seems to be swallowing feverishly, we've not had issues with gas build up or discomfort on his part, which is great! A few minor downsides: the larger-rimmed bottles are not compatible with the pump provided by our health insurance, so we have to do a bottle transfer which leaves behind precious drops of milk. Similarly, when baby is feeding with this nipple and bottle system, there is often a small volume that is left behind in the bottle as it does not clear the rim with simple tilting. These small volume losses can be a little disheartening for a mom trying to ensure baby gets everything he needs! Nonetheless, we've found the nipples to work well and have found ways to eke out those last drops.
Date published: 2018-01-09

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Sherry928 [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received these nipples as a member of the weeSpring Parent Panel.
