My daughter has never had any gas, spit up, or colic issues with this bottle, which has been super comforting. My four month old is mainly breastfed, but we aim to use a bottle at least once a week to prevent him from becoming solely attached to breastfeeding, so he doesn't use an artificial nipple often, and had actually only used one kind before this. That said, he easily took to this nipple. The shape and texture worked great for him. The shape is very close to an actual nipple. The only trouble was that the flow was too fast for him so he ends up chugging the milk. I know this is common for breastfed babies when they switch to a bottle nipple but I definitely felt this one was fast even considering. It is very helpful to have a variety of different nipple sizes, that way your little one gets the right at the proper speed while feeding. Also so you can continue to use the same bottles and not have to constantly spend money on new products every time your little one advances to the next stage. These where very easy to clean and sterilize straight from the package. My four month old daughter took to these nipples immediately, and seemed to do best with the 2 flow rate nipple. She does well with the medium 3 flow rate, but seemed to be getting too much at once and would have an eight ounce bottle finished in under ten minutes. I believe this was due to this nipple has 3 holes in the tip instead of the usual one. So I felt it best to stick with the 2 flow for now. These nipples have been great at relieving her gas and fussiness. We have been struggling for quite some time to find the right bottle for her, seeing as so many allow for way to much air to enter a babys tiny stomach. These nipples have been amazing at not letting any air reach her mouth during feeding at all, meaning a lot less gas and fussiness after feedings. I was a bit hesitant to try this because I did not want to mess our groove up, but I am happy to report that she took to it and we had no issues. I like how you can control the flow depending on how the bottle is tilted, and the anticolic vent is a great feature to avoid extra gas. It must have worked, because my baby was content after her full feeding, even with the faster flow that she is not used to receiving. I would definitely recommend this type of nipple AFTER the baby is 3 months and has established switching feedings between breast and bottle, as not to confuse them. When choosing which bottle and nipple to use, I tried several types until I found the Avent Natural bottles and nipples which worked best for him. He took very easily to the Avent Natural Nipple because it is wide like the breast. It also it soft and flexible like the breast. An added bonus is that the flow speed is clearly visible on the nipple which makes it easy to pick the right flow nipple out of a pile of nipples on the drying rack or in the cabinet. My son has a lot of gas even when he nurses. Some bottles I tried caused him to spit up basically everything he took in. However, with these Avent nipples with the anti-colic vent, he spit up a lot less. He took in a lot less air than with other bottles and was a much happier baby. I'm giving these nipples 4 stars only because I feel that when my son was just 3 months old, the flow of these nipples was a little too fast for him. He still preferred a slower flow nipple at 3 months. Now that he is almost 5 months, this flow is good for him. However, the Avent Natural bottles have a lot of different flow options which is very helpful in getting the right feed for my son so this minor con isn't really a big deal in my opinion. Overall, these Avent nipples are great and I highly recommend them. It came at a perfect time. We were struggling to get my 4 month old to continue taking a bottle as well as she did before. I breast feed her most of the time but once a day I give her a bottle so she is use to it and to give her the vitamin D drops. I never thought about changing the nipple flow which makes total sense! Having 3 holes in the nipple is a great idea so she can drink faster than just one hole. I have only used Avent nipples because I like that they vent air into the bottle so no upset tummy! Win for mommy and baby. These Avent nipples come in a pack of 2 so you always have a spare one waiting. I recommend when your baby is ready to move him/her to the medium flow nipple like we did. Being a first time mum with an exclusively breastfed baby, bottle feeding is stressful but a necessity if you want some alone time! At around 3-4 months we started to introduce a bottle of expressed milk so that I could get some extra sleep in the morning (thank you husband for being amazing and willing to do this!). We tried a variety of bottles and she took to the Philips bottles best. Now the next stressful thing was trying to figure out what nipple flow to use! I always thought I had fast flow so had her on the size 2 or size 3 nipple. She is now 6 months old and seemed comfortable on the size 2 or 3 nipple and would alternate. Using the variflow nipple has made this much easier! We had a cupboard with 5-10 nipples and in the morning rush could take the wrong one and she wouldn't be happy! We haven't found any issues with gas and it hasn't caused any nipple confusion or slow down of her breastfeeding. Cleaning is also a breeze, there are no hard to reach parts and we haven't noticed any wear, tear or deterioration in any of the Philips nipples that we have. My only criticism is that initially it was hard to figure out how to use it, but that's what google is for! For any parents who are looking at doing a mix of breastfeeding and bottles I would highly recommend the Philips range and having this nipple will save you from buying multiple nipples. My only concern is that when you put the bottle together, if you don't pull the nipple in place tightly there can be some leakage. I have been pleasantly surprised by the Avent nipple &amp; bottle. Initially I doubted how really different one nipple can be from another. When we tried the Avent natural nipple with my daughter at 3.5 months the flow at first seemed too fast, but she quickly caught on and now we prefer to use the Avent. We tried them with our 3-month-old son. I really liked the idea of a more natural nipple since he does both bottle and breastfeed. They are dishwasher safe which is great and the variety of flow rates is great. Unfortunately, he personally was not a fan of the wide mouth nipple, likely only because he is used to other smaller narrower ones. I would have loved to try it at an earlier age as I feel the latch could be better with this design. Thankfully he&rsquo;s a good eater and didn&rsquo;t have an issue with more standard nipple types. But - we did notice that he didn&rsquo;t seem to suck as much air with this product, as advertised. His burps were good but not as giant as usual but did seem to have less spit up which is a huge plus. It turns out he liked the flow to be as high as possible. While the anti-colic vent was simple enough to use, I can&rsquo;t say whether or not the nipples can relieve colic or gas because we (luckily) have never really dealt with that problem, especially not now that he is a little bit older. It was pretty simple to get him to take the nipple, the bottle was filled with breast milk and I (Mama) had to leave the room while his Papa gave him the bottle. I am a full time mom and my husband and parents watch my son while I'm away. I pump at work and they feed him my breast milk during the day. We have tried 4 different types of nipples and bottles and these are the best! My son is never very picky and will eat our of any of the bottles, but he fusses much less with these nipples. My son is 4 months old and he now prefers the medium flow nipple. He sometimes gets gas, but very little when we use the Philips Avent nipples. The plastic is very soft and has a natural feel. My son has no trouble switching between these and the breast. On the inside of the nipple the plastic is molded in a swirling pattern which I believe adds to the milk coming out smoothly. The nipples have numbers on the side so you can tell easily which rate of flow they are. It is nice for us to have a few different flow nipples to grow with him as he grows. These Avent nipples came in a nice plastic case, I'm not sure if I would reuse it, but it was nice to know it hasn't been touched and possibly damaged by people looking at them in the store. I really like the re-design! This would be an amazing option for a formula fed baby, my personal preference for my BF baby is a slow flow even as she gets older (7 months). Everytime we bottle fed she grabbed the bottle and fed herself, she took to it like a pro! I just held her and supervised :) We had zero issues with colic and zero issues with gas! I highly recommend these nipples! The only thing I wish was better were the instructions with the nipple package itself. It was very easy to find the information online. Here is the gist though: turn the bottle to line up the I, II, or III marking on the nipple with your baby's nose to choose between slow, medium, and fast flow. They may be great for babies that drink slowly, but because my daughter drinks so quickly, it is not the best nipple to use at the moment. Aside from the faster flow, my daughter seemed to take well to the nipple, which was a concern since I had started transitioning to bottles. They seem to be a close resemblance to what she is used to during breastfeeding. I will try the medium flow nipples again when I feel her feeding is more controlled and hope it's better for her! My experience with the nipples given to me for the Philips Avent bottles I had also received was very positive. I have had problems in the past with nipples collapsing from other brands and my daughter getting frustrated, mad, or losing interest while eating because the nipple flow was either too fast or too slow. The nipple sizes vary by the age of the child and offer faster flow as the child grows. It was helpful to use the medium flow nipples because it was fast enough for my daughter so she wasn't losing interest in her bottle or getting upset during the feeding but not too fast to where it would cause her to choke. The nipples are very soft with a flexible spiral design and comfort petals which allow a natural latch and the ability for the nipple to move preventing it from collapsing as well as venting out air. My daughter took well to the nipple and her gas has improved which has made a great difference in her overall mood after a feeding. As a mother who is breastfeeding, I only use nipples that are designed for new borns or with the slowest flow rate. I don't want to use a nipple, that makes eating too easy for her. I did feel that with this nipple, even the level 1 nipple, she was able to get the milk too quickly. A 10 minute feeding quickly turned into a 2 minute feeding. Which was ok with her, but not so much for me. We had concerns about introducing a bottle to our son, but with the Phillips Event Nipple, we were able to get him to take the bottle without issue. Dads, beware, having this nipple and bottles mean you can surely get up for middle of the night feedings!!
