My left nipple is flat/inverted and my son can't latch well onto it. I had hoped these shields would work so that I could breastfeed from both breasts. Pro: yes he was able to latch, easy to use, no noticeable leaks. Cons: carrying case broke as I was trying to open after first getting product thus not able to use it as a case nor able to sanitize in it. Overall for use at home I'd say it's a great nipple shield but for use on the go it would be difficult. My babies typically have tongue and/or lip ties. My newest little one is no exception. He has a lip tie and it makes it very hard to latch. Using this Philips Avent nipple shield has made a world of difference for both of us. He latches right away and there is no pain!! He gets his full feed without a struggle. I absolutely love that they come in a case! I love knowing it is kept clean and in a safe place while I am not using it. Though the concept of the nipple shield is ingenious and some thing that I so wish had helped me, I did not have success with this product. My young daughter is a very aggressive nurser and was unable to gently hold the shield in her mouth while she latched. It continued to move around and shift despite our best efforts and did not make the nursing experience any easier. In theory, I was very hopeful that it would allow my daughter to nurse more comfortably and longer, as she has really torn me up, but alas this was not the case. That said, the concept is fantastic and I think the breast fit was correct for me, it was just not a good fit for us. The carrying case is very practical and easy to travel with and quite sanitary. I love the fact that you can microwave to sterilize the product. I was so excited to see the case acts as a sterilizer itself. That is so helpful! I also used the case to keep one inside and let the other dry on top so I could rotate them for middle of the night feeding. When I first went to use them I was a bit skeptical since this is my second child and I couldn't use shields at all with my first. This child was just under 3 weeks old when I started to use these and I had already tried another brand that didn't help at all. Well these did! There was no pain at all and this was after I'd bled from that nipple just 24 hours before. I was shocked and I'm in such a state of relief. It's so helpful to be able to use these to heal. I was able to use these for just over a day and when everything healed I went back to nursing without it. I'm still getting sore but it's nice to know if it gets bad again, I'll have a way to prevent it from getting THAT bad. These looked big when I took them out and I wondered if my baby would be able to latch on them. It was no problem at all for the baby who latched easier than we were doing without them. I think that might be why it worked so well too, was that it really took pressure off of my nipple. It was easy to hold in place but the only trouble I had with it was that it leaked from underneath it, mostly at the end I think. I have had other ones leak before, so it may be how I seal it or remove it but having a cloth ready at the end helped that. I was not sure if it was the 2 open sides that caused a bit more leaking but I also thought having the 2 open sides was nice since it allowed more skin contact and might have been what helped my baby latch so easily. I hope not to need this for long but it sure helped right when I needed it! I will recommend the brand highly to friends. Though the concept of the nipple shield is ingenious and some thing that I so wish had helped me, I did not have success with this product. My young daughter is a very aggressive nurser and was unable to gently hold the shield in her mouth while she latched. It continued to move around and shift despite our best efforts and did not make the nursing experience any easier. Specifically, I like: -they're a two-pack (use one per nursing session, then you don't have to immediately wash for the next nursing session) -they have a good shape (long and narrow instead of circular, so more skin to skin contact with baby, easier to keep the suction) -they have a carrying case which doubles as a sterilizer (so functional!) But...my baby refuses to have anything plastic in her mouth so far. She gags with bottle nipples, pacifiers, and of course these nipple shields. Sigh. These would have been a real life (and nipple!) saver for my first kiddo, but this one just won't do it. I also have a really strong milk flow, so the nipple shields get backed up. That's more of an issue with my supply/nipple shields in general and don't think it's specific to this product. So -- if you have a slower or lighter letdown and flow, your baby isn't as picky as mine, and you have aching nips, this might be great for you. Had I known about these, I could have saved myself some pain! Easy to use and so easy to sterilize in the microwave in the handy carrying case. They adhere easily, although I had problems getting them to stick throughout the nursing session. Directions say to use water or breast milk to get them to stick, but they usually came loose while Baby was nursing and I would have to press them back on. My main complaint is that my daughter does not seem to love nursing while wearing them and keeps taking breaks throughout the session. Once in a while she even gets fussy and I have to continue without the shields. However, still highly recommended to protect sore nipples during the early stages of breastfeeding! I am considering getting another pair to keep near my nursing station upstairs so I always have a pair conveniently on hand.
