You need to really match the grooves on the clear plastic part, with the grooves on the clip. When installed properly it does the job, it just took some trial and error on my part. It's fairly easy to open. The plastic clip is not very strong, I took the top off of one. I am very satisfied with the performance of this product. It is easy to release the strap and open the appliance for myself but not accessible by a child. The only downside to the product is the adhesive is not very strong to support the tension needed for successful use of this product. I ended up taking it off and putting a command strip on the existing adhesive and I've had no problems since.
