The humidifier was used 5 days each week, consecutively. My family was suffering from the dry winter air with nose bleeds and sinus congestion. After 2 nights of using the humidifier, we could see improvements. The Vapor pad was a nice extra bonus to help soothe our irritated noses. The unit is fairly quiet, a soft hum. I appreciate that we are able to use tap water with the unit, unfortunately we have really bad hard water here, so I will eventually need to go purchase the demineralization cartridge. My son really enjoyed the projector feature, which can be used independent of the humidifier. Each theme has 3 different slides it cycles through. I would have liked to see more variation of the slides in the Star theme though. Maybe put in a shooting star or planet along with the stars. You can see exactly where the stream of mist that comes from the humidifier is going which is helpful. The scent pad that is used with the machine is not too strong but enough to make a difference. It is also very easy to fill with water and the lid where the water goes in turns on easily and feels secure. One of them had a horrible, dry, hacking cough, and the other had a nose that stayed full of snot no matter how much I tried getting him to blow his nose. In the mornings when I would go to get them up, after sleeping in a stuffy room all night, the coughing was worse, and all of the snot would be crusted and dry, making it even more difficult for both of them to breathe. I set up the humidifier in their bedroom on 50% to see if that might help, and the next morning I noticed a huge improvement! Yes, they were both still coughing, but it wasn't a dry cough, and it was more productive, and the baby with the snot didn't have his nose clogged by it all being dry, and was easily able to blow his nose. We've been using the humidifier for about 5 or 6 days now, and I'm so glad I thought to out it in there, because it's made such a tremendous difference in their symptoms, and they have definitely slept better with the room not being so stuffy and breathing in such dry air all night. The one downside to this particular humidifier however is the projector feature. When I selected this humidifier, a big reason was for the projection, because I knew it would be used in one of my kids rooms. I was expecting a large scene projected onto the ceiling, but after turning it on in my twins room, it was quite a disappointment to see a very small, round picture that was no bigger around than the humidifier itself. My boys could barely even see the projection and weren't happy about that, so after the first night, I chose to leave that feature turned off. If I had to make one suggestion of a way to improve this humidifier, it would be to somehow adjust the projection size so that the picture would cover a good portion of the ceiling in a child's room, so that they would easily be able to see it when looking up and trying to fall asleep. My kiddos love watching the illuminating lights when they are feeling so sick and I love the fact that the soothing vapors help them to stay asleep more comfortable. I have had other vapor machine in the past and my kids would hate the sound of their old machine. This machine is so quiet and they love looking at the illumination they hardly see it as a vapor machine and more like fun sick time enjoyment that distracts them from feeling sick enough so they can fall right asleep. I absolutely love this Vicks Vaporub machine and I recommend if you have little ones such as me it's a must. My son recently got sick and I thought it would be perfect to try this out. The instructions are included and I am terrible at fully reading them. The first part of set up didn't require me to read but as I got to the tank I realized I needed to find where the water went. Just a flip and a twist that's all I needed. I like that a disclaimer is on the bottom about condensation and not using any essential oils in the water. The side of the humidifier comes with a filter vent to add in Vicks Vapor Pads. You receive a complimentary one which is easy to insert. I like the different settings for the light projector part and if you wait a few seconds the animals, sea creatures and stars change within their cycle. My son's breathing improved a bit from the humidifier and we've been using it for a week. We also purchased the Vicks pads to go along. It can get a little pricey but if you break up the amount of pads you get for the price it's worth it. This product is good for a basic room setting with the door closed. It provides a cool mist and enough cord to move it around. I wish it would cover more room and the light projector rotated around the room or the screen was bigger.
