The maneuvering I had to do to get the straps all in the right positioning for forward-facing wasn&rsquo;t the easiest but it&rsquo;s not worse than any other car seat (and I&rsquo;ve used 3 different ones throughout the last 2.5 years). But by far, my favorite feature is the &ldquo;crank&rdquo; lever to tighten the anchor straps when installing the seat into the car. OMG. Why don&rsquo;t all car seats have this feature! Instead of leaning into the car and breaking your back to make sure the anchor straps are tight enough, you just crank the little lever with ease. It&rsquo;s honestly the most incredible feature. The safety Bluetooth chest clip feature is pretty cool too, but for me, not completely necessary. My toddler is comfortable in this seat and I feel that she&rsquo;s safe in it, which makes me a happy mom. We plan on using this until she grows out of the booster seat option! My ONLY complaint is that the bottom clip is a little difficult to do sometimes. Sometimes it works fine and sometimes it&rsquo;s annoying; but that&rsquo;s my only complaint! So, obviously I can't comment on how it would be to use it for a newborn but we are still rear facing. Installation takes a little while but once it is in, it is not shifting around like another seat I tried. The seat is secure and stable. The fact that this has a base is key to the stability while still rear facing. And I am very pleased with the fact that this not only converts to forward facing but goes all the way to just the backless booster seat. We will definitely get a lot of use from this seat. The ratchet feature helps that to happen. It makes it a bit easier to tighten everything. I also liked the feature on the side to let you know if it is tilted the appropriate amount when rear facing depending on the weight of your child. Moving the head piece with the straps is not difficult. We have been using the seat for several weeks now and my son seems to be comfortable in the seat and I like the overall look and dark color in case of any future spills. As far as the Securesafe sensor, I do like that it has this feature but since my son can't open the chest piece yet, I have not taken the time to download the app. But, with seeing what other kids have done, I am happy to have a seat that has this feature. The seat curves around him more than the less stable seat I mentioned earlier, so I feel he is now more protected if we were ever to have a side impact. We don't leave him with drinks yet but the cup holders are good and haven't been pulled up or anything. Overall, I find this to be a great seat that I plan to use for the 10 years of use it offers. So, if it is so great, why did I give 4 stars instead of 5? Well, I received this seat for free as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. Normally, whatever I receive comes in pristine new condition. However, this seat looked like it was a returned item. There were little footprints from another child and tiny hairs, perhaps from a white puppy. So, installation took longer than it might have otherwise, since we had to thoroughly clean the seat before we felt comfortable putting it in our car and letting our son sit there. Overall, I don&rsquo;t love this car seat. The ratchet system does make it super easy to take the seat in and out of the car. I also liked the hooks on the side to keep the straps to the side when putting my kiddo in the seat. No more digging under his butt for the straps! The look of the car seat is great. It looks sturdy and the neutral colors are nice. However, the front strap that&rsquo;s used to tighten the chest straps is very difficult to pull tight. My husband and I both have trouble getting it as tight as we want it. We can&rsquo;t figure out if it doesn&rsquo;t go any tighter or if we are just struggling to pull it tight enough. Either way, it doesn&rsquo;t make me feel very safe. I love the idea of the safe sensor, but in reality it hasn&rsquo;t been much help. It&rsquo;s winter in Chicago and when we first get into the car, the sensor always tells me my child&rsquo;s temperature is critically low, even after remote starting my car, seemingly because it&rsquo;s cold outside. I think I will like this feature better when my kiddo starts unhooking the strap in order to get alerts about that. We did try it briefly for my infant as well, and she seemed very comfortable in there. The chest straps were slightly easier to pull, but still not as easy as my other seats. I think the safety sensor would give me more peace of mind with her since she can&rsquo;t tell me if she&rsquo;s too hot or too cold, but not if it continues to be inaccurate. However, because pieces are intended to be taken apart at some point, the overall car seat for younger kids feels a bit less sturdy than convertible car seats. My 2 year old was able to pull the cushion pieces - shoulder pads, crotch pad - very easily. The carseat was simple to install. Lightweight and easy to maneuver in the back seat. My toddler looked quite comfortable, and loved the dual cup holder. I was disappointed that I could not figure out how to set up the sensorsafe tech and app. Perhaps it's because I'm a tester so the feature was not available? Overall, the carseat is a good idea, color is great and the look is clean. However, I don't quite feel comfortable using this for a smaller child. We received this car seat from the Stellar Product Testing Panel when my daughter was 12 months so she moved from an infant carrier seat to this one around her first birthday. (Given its convertible status it could've been used when she was smaller if we had had it!) It was fairly easy to install in our 2008 Honda CRV with LATCH. My husband liked the ratchet system and found it pretty intuitive and easy to use once we found the instructions hidden between all the various padding. This seat feels bulkier than others we've used and it feels harder to get my daughter in and out of. It is really difficult to tighten the straps enough--I keep checking to make sure they're threaded properly because it just doesn't feel like they are snug enough. The button to loosen them is hidden under padding. I love the idea of the Sensorsafe tech but given my daughter's age it isn't really something that feels useful yet--she is too young to have figured out what buttons do, though I guess it's a good reminder for us as well! While my daughter isn't old enough to verbalize in words whether she's comfortable, she doesn't seem to be comfy in this seat right away. First of all, it feels like we'll get our money's worth out of it since it'll grow with him and is good for 10 years. Second, it is really easy to install and feels very secure. The ratchet system makes it really easy. My wife normally doesn't like taking car seats in and out of the car, but this seat makes it a lot easier for her. The SensorSafe app doesn't really do much for us. It isn't the feature we were most concerned about anyway, but we just don't find it very helpful. Our son loves that he has two cup holders; he also likes that he can buckle it on his own. We still have to help him unbuckle the bottom. It can be a little tricky, but that also means it's a little tricky for him! We like the color and overall look of the seat, but do find it a bit bulky. I suppose that makes sense as it's an all-in-one. Since we're not tight on space in our van, it doesn't matter at all for us. Considering my only complaints don't affect our needs at all (app and bulkiness), this seat has been great for us. I was very curious about the sensorsafe tech and app. I am always worried that my child is too cold or too hot. I think the temperature feature was very helpful. Our 2 year old is not unbuckling the seat yet, so the other feature that tells you if they are not buckled was not very useful for us. Otherwise the child in the car notifications were a little bit annoying - I understand the purpose, but honestly I did not feel the need for these and would probably disable them if we use the car seat long term. The latching and ratchet system was awesome - it was easy to attach and dethatch using the red pull tags (vs pressing a button on our current car seat, which is difficult to reach). The ratchet made it easy to secure and tighten the car seat without having to lean with your body weight on the car seat. On the downside if you are trying to use the car seat in the middle seat you are likely to block access to the seatbelt. Overall the car seat is heavy and large. If you have a large car with a lot of space I think it is great, but we have a mini SUV and I don't think it would be comfortable for an adult to be next to this seat in the middle seat position. I have a large family and car seats are one of my most important things to consider with every child. My 13 month old is no exception. This car seat looked very nice right out of the box. The black and grey color scheme is very neutral. The concern here is the black is hot in the summer. I also noticed the &quot;airbag&quot; zones were more like soft pillows. This will make the seat seemingly more comfortable, but protection is minimal. The buckle design seems to be causing some minor irritation to my youngest abdomen like bruises. The buckle was seeming to line up just under his ribs and causing some discomfort. The bumpers, I feel, also contributed to this situation. The sensorsafe app and chest buckle do appear to be a great safety feature. My concerns with the setup is that if the family members are not in town or with the baby, how can they help? I figure if &quot;mom&quot; doesn't get the alarm she won't get the phone call either. The concept is very good but I feel it is offering parents another &quot;babysitter&quot; that they can &quot;rely&quot; on. The feature that I found truly fascinating, and really loved, is the racheting buckle to secure the strap and lock the seat in place. After being shocked that I had to wrestle the seat into my extra large passenger van, I finally was able to use the strap and rachet design. It really secured the seat in place. I do wonder if the rachet has the ability to withstand the forces of an accident. I will have to say I would not recommend the seat to friends. It&rsquo;s the easiest convertible car seat I&rsquo;ve ever installed. It takes no time at all and I&rsquo;m confident it&rsquo;s snug into place and not wiggling anywhere. The SensorSafe tech is very helpful and a brilliant idea. I&rsquo;ve only had this car seat a few weeks, so I haven&rsquo;t accidentally forgotten to buckle a child in during that time, but it has happened once to me and once to my wife previously with other seats, so the app provides great peace of mind. It&rsquo;s one of those things that you think you could never possibly forget as a parent&hellip; until you get distracted with getting multiple kids situated in the car and you do. We tested it out and it works. Loosening the shoulder straps when the car seat is installed is a challenge, so there is room for design improvement there. It feels like I&rsquo;m going to dislocate my thumb when I do it. Not a safety or functionality issue, but a pain. The sides also feel a bit flimsier than other car seats I&rsquo;ve had, but I&rsquo;m sure they&rsquo;re safety tested and fine. It does still seem safe and sturdy, just not as sturdy (or bulky) and immovable as other more expensive seats I&rsquo;ve had. It seems comfortable for our kids. My son said &ldquo;nooo&rdquo; when he saw it as he recognized it was new, but hasn&rsquo;t mentioned it since. As for the sensorsafe technology... this is not something I would have though about when looking for a carseat and has yet to come in handy for our family, but I can see the appeal if you are living in an area with more extreme weather or a kiddo who is an escape artist. As for the app, I think bluetooth technology is inherently a bit limited and finicky and the app was about what you'd expect - it ran fine and was simple to use. For some reason, it seems cleaner to me when wrapped in plastic. But, the seat looked very nice and comfortable! I was impressed by how expensive the seat looked. And the number of years of use you can get from the seat is a great selling point. Now for the hard part. The instructions to convert to a forward facing seat were honestly horrible. The images are very dark and the instructions are not thorough at all. I&rsquo;m one of these weirdos that enjoy assembly and installation projects, but literal sweat and tears went into this one. I&rsquo;m not confident enough with the installation to even let my kids ride in it yet. I did have my 3 year old sit in it to test it out and she really liked it! She said it was comfortable and she &ldquo;loved the big cup holders&rdquo;. I think this will be a good seat when I get it installed properly, but until then, it will make me have a nervous meltdown every time I look at it. Before installing for my 10 month old I played with the seat to test out all the different age options and love how versatile it is. Easy to take it from infant to booster. Installation was easy but took me around 20 minutes to get the lower anchors out and play with the recline to get it just right and level, where I was happy with. And secure enough to the car. The lower anchors make it easy to secure to car. Love the functionality it has with the tightener, almost like a socket wrench. Made it easy to tighten against the car without having to use any power. Also like the cup holders are attached and a part of the design. The sensor buckle and app will be very helpful when she&rsquo;s a little older and worry she may push the button to unbuckle herself mid drive. Also like the sensor app gives temperature alerts. The only dislikes I have is the recline button pull is at the foot of the child restraint so it&rsquo;s hard to adjust when it&rsquo;s attached to the car or the child is in it. The recline lever also moves from the original setting more than I&rsquo;d like when installing and moving the car seat. You can also see the inside foam in the headrest in the gap and wish the material was not shown. Overall my daughter loves it and we use it everyday. She&rsquo;s a lot less squished in this car seat and she likes sitting up to more easily look outside. I would say that we spend an average amount of time in the car. Weekdays we travel to and from daycare (15 minutes each way). On the weekends, outside of chores, we are often headed to the zoo (30 minutes) or to dinners with my family (45 minutes). And several times per year, we travel to visit my in-laws (9 long hours in the car). So, we get a good bit of use out of a car seat! Therefore, it is of utmost importance to my family that the car seat is comfortable for various lengths of ride and safe, safe, safe! This car seat checks those boxes. Below are my expanded thoughts on the features of this car seat, plus a list of my pros and cons. 1. Longevity and Versatility -- This car seat offers up to 10 years of use in a single seat. This is fabulous! I will not have worry about having to go shopping for another car seat. Although the initial investment is greater with this convertible car seat, it pays off in the long run! 2. Converting -- Setting the car seat for the next level (forward facing) for my toddler was no easy task! It required removing all of the seat cover, secured by elastic bands that were challenging to unhook from unseen locations, to adjust the belt. Then putting the seat cover back, which was not as challenging, but the instruction manual required me to flip back and forth to different sections for each task. It left me feeling like Gretel trying to follow the breadcrumbs to find the finish line. :0) I did get it put back together - and correctly - with perseverance. 3. Installation -- The installation of the car seat in the car was similar to other seats. However, the ratchet system to tighten the belt was a game changer. I was so happy not to need to rely on my tugging and pulling to feel that the seat was tightened to the car. 4. SensorSafe -- I am generally low tech but I do look to have those safety features when it comes to my baby. This seat is on the high tech side and with some substantial safety considerations. The main feature of SensorSafe is ensuring that the chest latch is secured and remains secured throughout my trip. It links to my phone through bluetooth and an app that alerts me if the latch becomes unsecured (i.e. that sneaky toddler unlatched the car seat and is free to roam around the car, yikes! I am glad that this has not happened to me yet!). It also has alerts for other safety concerns such as, if you leave the seat buckled and walk away from the car or if baby has been in the car seat for too long and we should take a break, to name a few! Wow! That is a lot! To sum it up, here are my pros and cons: Pros: --Enhanced safety features (lots of them) with safety alerts to your phone --Comfort for years --2 cup holders (one is an extended cup holder) to keep snacks and drinks close --Installation with ratchet for tightening Cons: --Another app (bluetooth connection). Be sure it's compatible with your phone if you are interested in these features. The headrest and rear facing recline were very intuitive as well. While I haven&rsquo;t taken it apart yet, it does look like the pieces are easy to disassemble and clean. Other great things: I love that the cup holders are removable, genius! This car seat was super easy to install with the LATCH and seat belt. We were able to use the LATCH with one of our kids but unable with another due to size. Both ways were very simple and quick. The only think I would change is that it would be nice if the seatbelt tucked under the seat and clicked. My kids especially liked the adjustable snack cups that go on the side of it. They do not complain about sitting in it and it appears to be very comfortable. My favorite feature of this carseat is the Sensorsafe tech and app. With our first child, I commuted very early in the morning and our son would often fall asleep on the way to daycare. I was always afraid I would accidentally leave him in the back after the sleepless nights. This app makes me feel so much better and also alerts me to if he is getting too hot or cold. With Iowa weather fluctuating so much, this is an excellent feature. The only feature my son does not care for is the crotch seatbelt latch. The installation was rough- it was difficult to follow and had you jumping all around in the installation manual and for me using it in the first position you would think it would all be there first without having to jump to page 67. Safety is my top concern so not having clear direction throughout was concerning I can't imagine if this was your first carseat install! The ratcheting feature for adjusting and tightening the base and carseat down is great and left me feeling more confident with virtually no movement which was a big improvement from the current car seat I had. This car seat is not one that you can transition from car to car with just the base in your partner's car nor is this a carseat where you can use it as a carrier or attach it to a stroller so when the babies are really little that is something to consider. The sensor with app connectivity is great for peace of mind especially as the kids get older and curious and unbuckle this will be great to have. The reachet system to tighten it was easy to use and feels like a stronger connection than the traditional install method (put your weight in the car seat and pull). The seat base (butt part) is roomy (I use it without the infant insert) and the straps are easily pulled aside for easy ins and easy outs. I&rsquo;ve had no issues with the baby sitting on the straps and having to dig them out. The strap to tighten the harness required more effort than I am used to, but that is super minor, just something I noticed. The SensorSafe app was easy install and set up. The peace of mind is great! I wouldn&rsquo;t want to mentally rely on it, but I&rsquo;m loving that I&rsquo;ll know if he unbuckles himself in the future and if he&rsquo;s been sitting too long on long car trips. He would choose this seat over his usual when I would place him in the car and both seats were located in the car. I love the fact that this is a one and done car seat and we can use this until he is 120 pounds. It means I don't have to change this out every few years. The ratchet system is AWESOME. It took a bit of time getting it figured out but once you do, you can really get that seat tightened down so it barely moves. So much easier than trying to pull a strap. Cons: The crotch buckle was extremely difficult to adjust from one slot to another. The Sensor Safe App would disconnect sometimes. I don't know if it was due to the phone or the sensor itself, but it would work more often then not, but it is still annoying not having it be consistent.
