The only positive thing about it is that it matches our banisters perfectly. However, it fails to perform basic functions. The sliding mechanism is poorly designed so that the clips that hold the two pieces together move and prevent the gate from sliding open. I need two hands to slide it side to side, which renders it essentially unusable. I cannot constantly be setting down my baby to unlock this gate while standing on the stairs. It does the job. Disregard the negative comments about this gate. If you follow the instructions and install it correctly, it is sturdy and works fine.
