It made pumping in public or even at my parent's home while visiting almost impossible. With this pump, I have been able to pump while at work, painting my new home office, shopping and running errands, and during my oldest child's basketball game. I can truly be on the go, and if I felt it was obvious at any point, I could throw on a cardigan or sweater, and it would lessen it. The suction levels were also ideal and enabled me to extract as much breast milk as possible. The pump was intuitive to understand and use, and I could not turn back around now. This has given me a new light and is helping me transition our baby to bottles and using breastmilk vs formula as it&rsquo;s easier/compatible with my lifestyle. The battery also lasted a long time! 3-4 pumping sessions! Cons: would have been nice for the the actual pump to have a small strap to go around your waist for true hands free. I usually had to shove it in my Jean pocket and that didn&rsquo;t fit in there overly well. I also expected the suction to be a bit better. I find I had more milk when I was using your traditional corded to the wall pump. I was given this breast pump to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. As a mother of three who has always pumped and breastfed, I would rate this pump highly on my list of pumps for a few different reasons. Firstly, it offers and efficient and quick pump, with the flexibility to double or single pump depending on your personal situation, to that end, I have never been able to efficiently nurse and pump at the same time, this pump allowed me to do so, without worry that my baby would kick it out of place or shift the pump. I attribute this to the pumps sleek and discrete size. Additionally, I love how easy the pump is to use and clean, this is a time saver and makes for easy use when travelling away from home. Lastly, this pump allowed me to complete a few more activities than usual while pumping; folding laundry, doing dishes are some of the examples. One of the things I wish the product could have allowed was for bending motions so I could clean up, due to the spout at the top of the pumps, it is risky to do any task that involves bending because you then risk having the pumped milk spill. I also wish that the string on the pump motor itself was longer, this would allow for a true handsfree experience because you&rsquo;d then be able to wear the pump motor around your neck, as opposed to carrying it to each location with you by hand. Lastly, as I was first learning to use the pump I was trying to make sure that it was place correctly on my nipples and due to the fogged colour and design it was a bit hard to see, I would suggest making the breast cups completely clear in colour. Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this breast pump, now let&rsquo;s get down to the nitty gritty of this Medela freestyle breast pump. Pros: Handsfree option &ndash; this pump is completely handsfree and not to mention, you don&rsquo;t need to have a fancy pumping bra on either for this to work. The pump is fairly easy to put on in the correct position, comfortable to wear and not overly heavy. Additionally, when the pump is full it isn&rsquo;t overly heavy or slip-off either. But the most obvious would be the fact that you do not to be tied down to get your pumping session complete, you can accomplish your other tasks on your mounting mom task list. Suction &ndash; this pump offers 9, yes nine levels of suction and two different modes. Compared to my other handsfree pump, the Medela most certainly has more suction power for a more powerful pump and rest assured you can ensure that the pump is effectively draining each breast. Cleaning &ndash; with only 3 parts to clean, cleaning out your pump after or between uses isn&rsquo;t going to be the massive chore that can be the case with some of those other pumps. After cleaning, it&rsquo;s also easily put back together, no guessing which parts go where. Just quick and easy because who has time to be fooling around with tedious pump parts while being a busy mom. Cons: Noise Level &ndash; while the hands-free pump is discreet in the sense that it can go into your bra and not be seen, someone would definitely know that you&rsquo;re pumping from the sound and while it&rsquo;s not overly loud, it isn&rsquo;t silent either. A trade off for the power behind the pump I suppose but either way, a pump has got to do what a pumps got to do. Tube &ndash; one more slight small con to this pump is the motor for the pump is external and not on the actual breast piece itself like some other pumps and therefore; some tubing is required to connect the two pumps (or one) to the motor itself. This &ldquo;y&rdquo; shape hook-up isn&rsquo;t overly cumbersome, yet it does take a little getting used to. I currently use a different electric pump that I like but don&rsquo;t love, and was eager to try something new. I generally pump 2-3 times a day, but when my son was first born I was pumping about 8 times a day and could have really benefitted from a product like this at the time, as I felt like I was always hooked up and unable to move about freely. I&rsquo;ll start by listing the things I loved and thought were great about this pump: - My favourite thing about it is how extremely easy it is to assemble, disassemble, and clean. It comes with very few pieces, which is really great if you pump on the go. It&rsquo;s also very easy to pour the milk out when you&rsquo;re done pumping. - It is very comfortable on the breasts. There were times I hardly even noticed it was there, especially since it just sits in your bra. I would say it&rsquo;s also fairly quiet. - The pump unit is very compact and light, and the touchscreen is very sleek and modern. I love how it tells you how long you&rsquo;ve been pumping for and what suction level you&rsquo;re at. - I would say it&rsquo;s very effective at expressing milk for a wearable pump, and produced almost as much milk as my electric pump in the same amount of time. - It includes an extra flange size (21mm and 24mm) instead of having to order one separately, which is nice. - It does make it easier to do some things, such as walking around the house, cleaning the kitchen, cooking, or anything that doesn&rsquo;t require much bending over. However, there were a few things I didn&rsquo;t love as much: - The biggest con for me about this pump is the capacity of the collection cup. I am an overproducer, so a 5oz cup was just not enough for me. I tried to empty the cups halfway through my pumping session, but this caused milk to flood the membranes and I felt it didn&rsquo;t work as well after that (and it made some strange sounds). This could be a user error, or maybe this particular pump just isn&rsquo;t the best for someone with an oversupply. - I also noticed that I still had to sit up straight while pumping (couldn&rsquo;t really lean forward or back), since leaning too much also caused milk to flood the membranes. - It is not the easiest to see how much milk you&rsquo;ve collected and if your nipples are positioned correctly unless you dig into your bra, as you can&rsquo;t really see much from the top. - To me, the pump wasn&rsquo;t quite as discreet as I thought it would be. I would say it&rsquo;s quite obvious that I&rsquo;m wearing it, as it does noticeably stick out of my bra (this may also be due to having large breasts to begin with). However, this isn&rsquo;t a big deal to me at all since I only pump at home and never really around other people, but it might be worth considering if you pump on the go a lot. I was also hoping that I would be able to hold my baby while using this pump, but unfortunately it was too bulky for that (and the fact that it still has tubing meant he could grab at it easily which was not ideal). I wanted to love this pump so bad. It seemed perfect for my needs, but unfortunately it didn&rsquo;t really work out for me. It is certainly compact and did make it easier to walk around freely while pumping, but having to empty it halfway through, rinse it out and dry it, and hook it back up again really defeated the purpose of using it for convenience. Overall, I do think that the size, portability, and convenience (for someone with a regular supply) does not mean that the product compromises on quality. It still works quickly, produces milk very effectively, and frees up your hands which is great for a busy mom. The Freestyle Double is the third Medela pump I have tried. Though I was happy with all three of them, this model is hands down the best for anyone who pumps frequently or who doesn't have time to sit and hold a pump multiple times a day. My baby needs a lot of attention and likes to be held a lot. She is also not the best at breastfeeding so we almost exclusively pump. Until now, I had been using a single side pump that needed to be held. With the Freestyle Hands Free Double Electric pump, I can pump in half the time while doing housework or playing with my little one. This pump has great suction and fit and was easy to place in my bra. It did take some getting used to since it has very different parts than other Medela pumps. But once I got the hang of it, it became my primary pump. I've gone from pumping 6 hours a day down to 3 and can get things done while I do it! I really recommend that anyone hoping to pump that they invest in this model. It really works well and saves time. One note for moms who have very small nipples. This model may not work quite as well for you since there are fewer options for size ranges. But if that isn't the concern this is the model to get. The Freestyle Hands Free Double Electric is one of the higher end Medela pumps. This one was no exception. It's carefully packaged, and comes with a comprehensive user manual. The suction power was enough for me, but I could still go few levels higher if needed. The collection cups consist of only three parts, which is a very positive feature to me. It is straightforward to assemble/disassemble, saving a lot of time when using and cleaning. I don't pump outside my house, so I can't vouch for discretion when in public. I can, however, attest that it's a great pump to use while multitasking. Walking, reading, cooking, and other house chores were the activities I was able to do during my pumping sessions. The motor unit is easy to use and charge. The only thing I wish it came with is a clip to hook on to my clothes whenever I'm not wearing an outfit with generous pockets. For those who love to record every pumping session, there's an app we can download and connect to the pump via bluetooth. My experience with the Freestyle Handsfree Pump has been very positive. I was given this breast pump as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel and was completely unaware of the benefits of having the cups that slip into any bra compared to the older style with special pumping bra and bottle ends I has been using previously. I can pump anywhere discreetly and completely hands free. The thought and care that went into this pump is impressive. Not only are there minimal parts to take apart, put together, and clean, the cups themselves are clear so you can see expression taking place to make sure output is effective with cup placement around the nipple. The pump itself is so small and lightweight, making it incredibly easy to walk around with it hanging around my neck (hot tip - use a lanyard). Even the cups have a flat edge to place on a surface while pouring every last drop of milk out of the cleverly placed spouts. They truly thought of everything! The light up screen makes nighttime usage a breeze. The charge lasts for multiple sessions which is just such a life saver when I already have enough of my mind. I exclusively breastfeed, and it effectively pumped a good amount of breast milk from each side (4-5 oz total). Washing the parts was very easy, as there was minimal parts. Only thing difficult was when assembling, you really have to apply pressure to hear the &lsquo;click&rsquo; to ensure the breast pump was intact. Charging the pump was very easy and I got a lot out of 1 charge. Since my LO is eating more foods/fluid, I still pumped for those missed sessions. I&rsquo;d pop them in my bra while making breakfast/lunch for quick 20-25 min sessions. The Medela Freestyle Hands Free Double Electric Breast Pump is a dream and it is far superior to any other pump I have tried in the past. I love this pump for so many reasons. The pump is simple to put together with only three parts per collection cup and it is so quick and easy to clean. My old pump had six parts per side to wash and some of the parts were small with little crevices to clean so it took a long time to get everything washed. The parts on this pump are larger with no small crevices so it is easier and less time consuming to clean. I don't dread washing my pump parts now which is a nice bonus. I also love that this pump is hands free. As a Mom of three I don't have time to be tied down to a bulky pump or an electrical outlet. This pump allowed me to go about my usual daily routine while pumping due to its discreet and compact size. The collection cups were extremely comfortable and fit nicely in my regular bra and the pump fit well into my pocket. The comfort of the collection cups made me want to pump more often which is a win for me and my babies - I used to dread pumping before using this pump. I like that the collection cups are transparent so I can do a quick check to make sure that the pump is positioned properly and that milk is flowing. I was amazed that I was able to bend down to pick up my kids or clean messes while pumping with no spills or leakage from the collection cups at all. It was so nice to be able to pump without bulky bottles hanging off of me. This pump has allowed me tons of flexibility that I didn't have before as I am able to put it on and do whatever I want without limits whether that was going for a walk, playing with my kids, cleaning, cooking or just watching television. While wearing this pump I continued on with my normal day and would even forget I was wearing it at times. The pump is effective at collecting milk. The pump has a great and easy to use interface that shows battery life, how long you have been pumping for and the mode you are in. It only has a few touch buttons on it so it is easy to switch between modes and turn the level up or down. My only small wish is that this pump had a clip on the back to clip it onto your pants for when you don't have a pocket. It does have a nice adjustable drawstring at the top to attach it to your wrist which is helpful though. It was easy to carry and place on the counter or anywhere if you don't have a pocket and the tubing is long enough that this wasn't really an issue. I am confused why the tubes come out from the top rather than the bottom which again felt a bit clunky. The first time I put them on I had it set up upside down so milk went all over me, and even when I had them up the right way, I was constantly confused as to whether it was set up correctly. I think this is because since it's fully hands-free under a bra, I actually couldn't see how much milk was being pumped or if it was even working. Unfortunately, this pump just wasn't effective for me. After 5x of trying and properly setting up it 4 out of the 5 times, I barely got any milk out of it. I'm definitely spoiled because the Sonata is super effective and efficient, so maybe I just need to pump for longer to get the same output. It was easy to assemble, use, and clean, with the added bonus of not needing to pair it with a hands free pumping bra to be able to move around while pumping. It was definitely more discreet in comparison to the Flex model however, as someone with smaller breasts (32C), I found the pump cups to be quite large for my bras and needed to make sure I was wearing something with an adjustable strap to get a good enough seal. Wearing the pump, I was able to complete activities within waist and shoulder height (e.g. tidy countertops) but was unable to complete any lower or higher activities (e.g. loading/unloading the dishwasher or laundry) without compromising the seal. Ultimately, I found that the plastic seal of the Hands Free pump was not as strong as the Flex&rsquo;s silicone seal, leading to slightly less milk being expressed. Therefore, while I liked this pump, for mothers looking to increase their milk supply, this wouldn&rsquo;t be my first choice, particularly for someone with smaller breasts. No more bottles sticking out front, and wrangling an awkward pumping bra!! That's easily my favourite part. I can curl up on the couch at a comfortable angle, pick up baby/dog/other creatures without them yanking on it, or do whatever household task needs to get done. This pump has not gotten in the way of a single thing. This pump appears to be as effective as my older, traditional styled pumps, as my output has been around the same per pumping session. As a disclaimer though, this is with a couple pump sessions in a week, not using it full time over a long period. If I was going to nitpick about one aspect of the pump I found less than ideal, it's the volume markings on the sides. They are costly and I did not want to invest in one in case it didn't work well, so I always pumped with a traditional double electric pump. I was using Medela Freestyle Flex prior to receiving Freestyle Hands Free, and there are pros/cons to each. PROS: - Firstly, I absolutely LOVE how discreet and compact this pump is. This is truly a hands free pump that you can wear under your shirt and no one would even know (except for the fact that your cup size would increase by 3x). It's quieter than a traditional pump. While you can also be 'hands free' with a pumping bra while using the Flex, it was bulky and the pump parts/bottles would get in the way sometimes. The Flex is also far from discreet and I always worried I would accidentally knock into something and cause spillage. That is not a concern at all with the wearable pump. It stays securely inside your bra and does the job effectively. - There are only 3 parts to clean (per side) which makes the clean up less of a hassle. - There's no compromise on the suction. I find the suction to be comparable to what I was used to with the Flex. - It is super easy to pour the milk out from the shells and it is less likely to spill. With the Flex, you have to unscrew the bottles from the pump parts while the bottles are full. This means there's more chance for you to spill because there's a lot more handling involved. With the wearable pump, you just pour directly into a bag/bottle. CONS: - It is more difficult to see if you have placed your nipple correctly (i.e. in the middle of the shield). Since the 'tunnel' of the shield is inside the shell which you then need to place inside your bra, you can't really look to see if you've positioned it right. This is just the nature of a wearable pump and you'll have to get used to it. - There is a fill level on the outer shell but it's impossible to get an accurate reading if you use that. When you place the shells on the table, they stand freely on an angle. However, the fill level reading is not on the same angle so the milk is slanted towards one side. You will have to pour it into a bottle to get an accurate reading. For someone like me who freezes all the milk I pump, I cannot pour directly into a bag. I must use a bottle to get a reading before I freeze the milk in a bag. Overall, I think this is a great pump and I've since replaced my Flex with this one. I can pump anywhere discreetly and effectively. I'm so glad Medela decided to make a wearable pump so even though it's new, you know it's a brand that you can trust! Note: There isn't a lot of milk in the photo that I provided because I just nursed prior to pumping. The suction has multiple strengths which is an important feature for me as some portable pumps do not have enough suction. It has only 6 parts total to clean!!! Putting together the pumps took seconds not minutes. This made hand washing and sterilizing a dream! It also dried really quickly which when I needed to pump every couple hours I wasn&rsquo;t struggling with parts being wet. The hard plastic makes putting on and fitting the pump very easy, no fiddling with the malleable flanges. I primarily used my pump at work and while away from my little guy. I am an outpatient nurse so I used it at my desk on break. I sit really close to my coworkers and not a single coworker knew I was pumping. It is very quiet, which is great for discretion. I loved that the battery is separate from the pumps so they are not as heavy and bulky. The shape fit perfectly in my nursing bras and you could only tell I was wearing it if you were really paying attention. It doesn&rsquo;t have an automatic shut off at 30 minutes but pumping moms pump for varying amounts of time so I don&rsquo;t believe this is a fault. The battery life last for 4-5 30 minute sessions for me which is impressive! I am incredibly happy with this product and love that I was able to test it!
