It has helped our son be able to fall asleep. If he wakes up in the middle of the night and its not on, all we have to do it turn the machine back on and he falls back to sleep. Not only has it been great for him, (our son sleeps in our room) it has been great for me. My husband is a loud breather and it helps to drown out his noise. Having our son sleep in our room means I hear every little movement and noise he makes as well. We've been avid users of the Munchkin Nursery Projector &amp; Sound System for the last 2.5 years or so and love them, BUT they are large and require an electrical outlet. This product is smaller and therefore portable! It sounds crazy, but I've used it to calm a hunger-crazed, impatient baby who is waiting for milk letdown. It works instantly on the Shush-shush setting. I don't think it would serve our purpose for all-night usage on a regular basis, but it definitely works for the short term. I would love if there were an 'infinite-on' setting in addition to the 10, 20, 30 minute timers, but I guess it would drain batteries pretty quickly. Overall, this is a great product. I think I might get another one to keep in the car. The volume control option works well, and it is very easy to use. I also like the night light feature, as it provides light but isn't too bright that it would keep them child up. This product is also very functional in terms of its size for being portable. We use this sound machine when we are visiting friends or family overnight, as all of my children are accustomed to falling asleep to background noise. The things I do not lik about this is that there is not a feature to allow the sound to play all night long. I understand that would be a huge drain on the battery, but think it would have been easy to add a plug to this machine without compromising its size. One of my children tends to wake during the night when we are in different places, and she would have an easier time falling back to sleep if the sound machine was still on. I seem to have the most difficulty keeping my baby calm when she's in her car seat. I immediately put the batteries in (which were included, score!) and turned it on. You have to cycle through the different sounds to get to whichever one you would like. There is also different time options so it doesn't just stay on forever, which is really nice. I think in the future my baby might appreciate this little gadget more. At this point, it just makes her angry that I'm not actually getting her out of the car seat. I like that it has a light that turns on as well, I feel like when we are driving in the dark it would be a good way to distract a sad little one. My major problem with this item was that you need two different sizes of screwdrivers to access the battery compartment, and the pieces that hold the compartment together are a bit fussy to fit together when trying to change the battery. We normally just use an app on our phone but that is obviously not practical, so we have been searching for one that would work for us. Most of the ones we tried were not loud enough and others' buttons were so sensitive that every time I put them in my diaper bag they would turn on and off. We recently got this one to take on walks in the stroller and on car rides and love it. Although we only use the white noise, it does have 3 different sound choices: A shushing sound, white noise, and a heartbeat. It also has a light that you can turn on which will be really helpful for long road trips and car rides at night. The volume on it is excellent and probably the loudest of any portable sound machine we have tried, but it is adjustable if you need to lower it. It also includes a strap although I have yet to identify a use for it, I kind of wish the strap opened and closed so we could attach it to the car seat handle or handle in the car, but that is not a huge deal. I also love the size, it is about the size of a can of soda and easily packs in the diaper bag without taking up much room.The only negative I can point out if the timer; you can set it for 10, 20 or 30 min but there is no option for continuous play. Sometimes when baby is sleeping and it shuts off it startles the baby and wakes him up so I set my phone timer when we are out so that before the 30 minutes are up I gradually turn the noise down, then move the machine away from the baby, turn it off and back on, and gradually back to the baby. We have a baby that has reflux and colic and sometimes those crying sessions are rough on us. You can get tired Shhhing so this machine does it for you. The product comes with three sound options (Shh, white noise, &amp; heartbeat), up/down volume controls and a nightlight. The device also has a 10, 20, 30 minute timer that you can control by turning the bottom piece. What I like: The light is soft and great for doing quick midnight changes. Turning on the bathroom light or even using the flashlight feature on my cellphone was too bright! The noise maker is great and is loud enough. Turning on the Shh Shh sound begins to calm our crying baby almost immediately. (Husband approves!) It is small and can easily be packed in a bag for travel! I love that it is tiny and isn't bulky. I just sit it on her windowsill next to the rocking chair. What I don't like: I wish the device came with the option to keep it on longer than 30 minutes. Since it is battery operated, I can see how that would drain the batteries fast.
