Keep your curious cruiser inside child-friendly areas with the Safety 1st Top of Stairs Metal Gate. This metal gate expands from 27-42" and is 28" tall. The gate complements your home while keeping baby safely inside, or out of, certain areas. As a hardware-mounted gate, this gate is ideal for use at top of stairs, but can also be used at the bottom of stairs and between rooms for maximum versatility. The frameless design ensures that the walkway is completely clear when the gate is open and there is nothing to step over, preventing any potential trip hazards. This gate is specially designed to be operated with one-hand, because we know parents often have their hands full. Easily open the gate by rotating the release lever and lift to swing out of the way. The sturdy hinges allow the gate to be set to swing open in one direction only for top of stairs use, or in both directions which is perfect for between rooms. This ability to choose provides you with added convenience and protection. The adjustable gate stop ensures that the gate can swing only one way for safer top of stairs use. Additionally, the one button release on the hinges makes it easy for you to remove the gate during periods of non-use. Use in multiple areas of the home: top of stairs (hardware mount only), bottom of stairs and hallways or doorways Hardware mount for maximum security at top of stairs Frameless design to prevent any potential trip hazards Swing control settings let parent choose: one direction-only (top of stairs) or both directions (between rooms) Pass-through swing convenience when hardware mounted Swing shut with auto lock for quicker passage Adjustable width 27"-42", 28" high

Flawed design, falls off the wall
This is just simply poorly designed. There’s too much torque on the gate small wall attachment when the gate is open so ver time the top piece wiggles and eventually falls out. We tried to repair it, add extra wall enforecementa but no luck. Ultimately it’s a poorly designed gate and not safe long-term. We ended up having to throw it in the trash and buy a different brand.

Built to fail
Put it together for our newborns room. Was a challenge to build in the first place due to horrible build quality. Once I had it together, I closed it, it latched great. But it refused to unlatch without me manually pressing the bottom spring down. We have a similar gate I've installed before. Works the same way this one is supposed to. On this, the top hinge is supposed to have some flex so the latch end can lift. But it's fixed. This should be recalled and fixed. Wasted time and energy on a product that was designed to fail. Don't waste money on this product.

Not safe - poor quality
Bought this 2 weeks ago. Little clunky to use but its ok. opened the gate and the inserts for the adjustable rods fell out and the gate fell apart. Its installed at the top of stairs as the name states, if my baby was pushing on the gate and this happened he would of fell down the stairs. I've welded back together and will see if it works. photo attached of the failure point.

It will do
We had a few issues installing this gate. The screws are garbage and strip way too easily. The template for the latch side was incorrect. Also, while the width is adjustable, it is only adjustable in certain increments - our space required a width where the verticals did not line up (which is required to use the included spacers). We were able to make it work, but I can't say I'd recommend this gate.

11/10 would recommend to a friend or colleague!
Originally had purchased the Safety 1st pressure mounted baby gate equipped with the “auto close/soft close” feature. Was easy to install however the auto close/soft close did not work as advertised. Exchanged for this hardware mounted baby gate and very happy with the results. Although it does not have the “auto close/soft close” feature it still is very functional, and locks on the first close attempt. As opposed to the “auto close” model. It has two locks on the top for ease of opening while holding baby. As far as installation goes, I highly recommend utilizing a levelling stick double check your work. Thank you Safety 1st I appreciate how there are different setups (pressure mounted vs hardware mounted) looking forward to more awesome products in the near future! Hope this review helps your decision when searching for a baby gate!
