After a couple weeks of playtime, here's what we think; Pros: Sturdy toy, has handled drops and bumps from a toddler with no sign of damage On/off switch on the back Adjustable volume, and even on max volume the toy is not loud/obnoxious Carry handle on top - the shape reminds me of a lunchbox. This is my 15 month olds favorite part, she has loved toting the toy around with her like a little briefcase! Cons: The volume adjustment is on the front of the toy (I wish it was more of a parent feature on the back) The 'DJ' functions don't do much (barely slow or speed up the music or add one clicking sound), so if that feature is what you're looking for this may not be the best fit. The music on this toy is like slow old rock - not what I would imagine a DJ playing. With a toddler that LOVES to dance to almost anything (even tv theme songs) the fact that she didn't think the music on this toy was 'dance worthy' is what took away stars for me. Here are some of the pros and cons from what I've observed of my son playing with it (and my experience as a parent adding this toy to our home!) Pros: - It is the perfect size for little hands, with a great handle for carrying it around. - It's great at holding my 18 month old's attention - GREAT MUSIC! - 13 different song options, so it doesn't feel repetitive. - Super cute design, it's fun and colorful without being an eye sore. - Three levels of volume control - Fun options to adjust the sound of the music or pause it Cons: - The mechanics are a little confusing for my son. You push the yellow arm on the player to start a new song, and then the red button will pause or play that same song. My son keeps trying to push the red button to start a new song and hasn't quite grasped needing to push the yellow arm once a song ends if he wants to play a new one. I'm sure he will get the hang of it as he gets older though! - The instructions are a little vague. It would be helpful if the instructions were a little more clearly laid out. For example, it doesn't specify if it's okay to twist the record section in reverse while music is playing, but that's one of my son's favorite things to do, so hoping he doesn't end up breaking it by doing that cause he'd be so sad! Overall, we have LOVED this toy and I can see my son playing with it for years to come. My 15 month old son LOVES music and I knew this toy would be a hit for him. He loves listening to the music in the background as he plays or looks at books. I think the music definitely helps him to play independently for longer. My son also enjoys moving the buttons around and spinning the record. The toy itself will hold his attention for 5-10 minutes which is the perfect amount of time for me to get something done! As a mom who tries to limit screen time and minimize toys that have a lot of lights/bells and whistles this is the perfect in between. I also find that the volume is tolerable enough so I don't become too overstimulated by the toy! I like that the power switch is on the back so I can control turning it on and off rather than my son being able to do that. The downsides to the toy are that it was incredibly difficult to open the spot to put batteries in. It took my husband several tries before we were able to get it opened. The only positive is I wasn't worried about my son being able to open and get into the batteries. I also wish it held my sons attention for a little longer! It's a unique idea for a toddler toy - a DJ station turntable / record player with a spinning disk and the tracker hand - it is certainly one of a kind. The design is simplistic enough that even a toddler can figure out how to turn it on and off and switch songs. The spinning disk spins on its own when music is playing and also is easy to spin by hand for a baby. The sound doesn't actually change when spinning, no actual &quot;scratching&quot; happens, the toy just continues playing the recorded song. There is also a volume control button and a pitch slider with 3 settings. I greatly appreciate the volume control as we have many other sound toys and I find most of them unnecessarily loud. While the volume control can be easily manipulated by a toddler (and most toddlers are yet to understand parent's requests to lower the sound down) we typically keep it on low and can easily turn it down during the play. The pitch slider is fairly useless as it's hard to hear the sound change and my kids didn't seem to pick up on or get interested in what the slider does either. The record player plays about a dozen classic rock / rock'n'roll songs (just the instrumental tune, no voice / lyrics). We have 2 kids, 18 months and 6 year old boys, and both are music lovers. I must say though that my 6 year old seemed to get more kick out of the toy than his younger brother. The toy is good sized for small toddler hands and easy to press buttons and move sliders. The handle on top is definitely very convenient for our youngest to grab the toy and go. My husband found it very cute and called it &quot;a little man's briefcase&quot;. I generally prefer kids music better for little ones but I also believe that exposing to different music genres helps them develop all-rounded tastes and learn about different musical instruments.
