The monitor has a 2-way talk system, built in night light that is not to bright to wake your baby, and has nine different calming sounds. The white noise and trickling stream is my preferred sounds. The system works with my Alexa. I like the remote zoom feature. The night vision is great! I can clearly see my baby in the dark even from a distance. It has a pretty good range for the night vision. Also, you can zoom up to 4x magnification. It&rsquo;s not super clear at 4x, but you can see your baby well enough to use it. We room share so I have mine on a dresser and rotate it to show the crib or our bed when we wake up and she&rsquo;s still asleep in our bed when she sleeps with us. The motion and sound indicator sensors have different levels of sensitivity to match with your needs. There's also a thermostat and temperature alert you can set up to let you know if it gets or of your chosen temperature range. They can also be turned off on the monitor if you don&rsquo;t want to use it. It also has the option of white noise, lullabies, and night life. The best part for me is having it WiFi optional with an app on my phone. I can use the app and separately turn off or on the motion and sound sensors just for the app. Since my baby is still nursing on demand I gauge about when to come home by when she wakes up so I like getting the motion notifications from the app to let me know when she gets up while I&rsquo;m at work. The screen is large which is great for me and my mom when she baby sits since she is technologically challenged. If it goes to sleep, it will auto wake when noise or motion is sensed with a beep as well and a symbol to let you know which one it was on the screen. The app makes checking on my little one easy, when I don&rsquo;t have access to the handheld monitor. The camera monitors the temperature in the room and also has a nightlight equipped. The remote access device takes a while to charge, but it holds the charge nicely. I wish there was a way to automatically move the camera, the manual positioning is really the only downside I could find. First, I'll start with the good points. The remote control nightlight and music features are awesome -- I love being able to check (remotely) to make sure the nightlight is on without having to open the door and being able to activate it or turn it off remotely. Seriously, this is the best feature they could have possibly added to any baby monitor. The night vision works fine. The daytime picture is crystal clear. Love it. The camera comes with a mounting bracket or you can put it on a dresser -- very flexible. The parent control unit has a nice large screen and you can connect to an app and view the camera over WiFi if you want to. That kind of weirds me out, but I can see where it would be handy. All of these are great features, so why 3 stars you may ask? Well, the range isn't super. We live in a split ranch, so the kid bedrooms are on one side of the house and the master is on the other. The monitor often says weak signal when the camera is in the twins' room and the parent unit is in the master bedroom. Finagling with the antenna fixes it, but if we had put the twins in the farthest bedroom from the master, the signal wouldn't reach. So I'm not 100% sure it maintains signal all night long and that's a big negative to me. On top of that, you can't control the camera with the parent unit like you can with other V-Tech video monitors. The instructions make it almost seem like you can, but I've pressed all the buttons, multiple times, and you cannot. You can zoom in and out, but you can't move the camera up, down, left or right without physically being in the room. That seems like a big downgrade from other V-Tech video monitors and a feature that I really miss. This probably wouldn't be a big deal if you wall mount the monitor, but when it's on a dresser and can get knocked during the day without noticing, it's a big deal to not be able to make small adjustments to see the babies. I have this set up in the room with my 4 year old and 2 month old. It brings me a lot of comfort to be able to see them and know that they are okay. The feature where I am able to talk to them is wonderful. When either of them wake up upset I can let them know that I am on my way to them. It works well as a small nightlight for them too. The music is plays is soft and soothing as well. The initial set up was very easy. Just a quick charge and simple connection between the devices and it was ready to go. I do love that the camera captures such a wide angle for me to be able to see everything. The resolution is wonderful as well. Out of the box, the Wifi is disabled, and the parent and baby units communicate on a closed loop at 2.4GHz Frequency Hoping Spread Spectrum (FHSS). From the parent unit, you can (optionally) enable the Wifi. This involves that you connect to your LAN via the parent unit, then type in the LAN password, and this will add the Camera (Baby unit) to the LAN. Then you need to download the Free MyVTech App from the App store, and install this on every smart device you wish to be able to access the Audio/Video Feed. Lastly, you will be prompted to set up a Password protected account online, that each smart device must type in the password to access. Up to 8 smart devices (iPhone, Android phone, tablets) can access this password protected account at a time. At any time, WIFI can be toggled back to OFF from the Parent unit, and all the smart devices will go dark, until the toggle is reinstated to ON via the parent unit. You control who with the password, and you control when with the parent unit toggle On/Off. The closed loop is always active between the parent unit and the baby unit, unless you enable Sound Activation mode, and then the screen sleeps when no sound is detected for 50 seconds to save battery life.
