The readings a a bit lower than when taking temperatures orally, but that is typical for forehead and ear thermometers. The thermometer reads the temperature within a second or two, and the green/yellow/red color coding is helpful for knowing whether a temperature is concerning or not. The thermometer runs on two AAA batteries, which are conveniently included in the packaging. The booklet tells you how to operate the thermometer, how to change to F or C, how to reset, etc. It is very user friendly and easy to understand. All it takes is a simple click of the trigger button while holding the thermometer at a short distance from a forehead and within a second I have an accurate temperature reading. It is super lightweight and feels good in my hand. I held it a few inches from the forehead and it read perfectly. While the other brand one I could be at an inch from the forehead and it still didn't read the temp, I had to touch the forehead before it would do any reading. With this Vicks brand one I did NOT have to touch the forehead. We care for our senior parents and I gave this to my in-laws since they have friends that come over a lot. This is perfect for them to test their friends before they enter their home. Because we live in Fl, our temp during the summer is higher so it is best to have your guest either stay in their vehicle for a bit or stand in a shade before getting a temp. I love how it is color coded, so even my younger ones are able to tell me if their temperature is elevated. Green is in a normal range, while yellow and red are either slightly elevated or high. This has been incredibly helpful during the pandemic. I have found that the readings are very accurate compared to our old ear thermometer.
